I got the Linksys WUSB600N Dual-Band Wireless-N USB Network Adapter from buy.com for $30. Yes it is refurbished. No I have not had any issues with it. No I could not distinguish it from the brand new version of the same adapter I bought and returned.

I use it to let both my iMac and PC connect to the WDTV Live.

If everything is in VIDEO_TS folder (as it has to be to play all the VOBs seamlessly and to have subtitle support - we learned), it will play the BIGGER title first and completely ignore title order. If your Title 2 is bigger (in bytes) than Title 1, it will start playing with Title 2.
On the other hand if the files are in the folder that is named differently (NOT VIDEO_TS), it will start properly (with Title 1), but you can kiss goodbye seamless VOB playback and subs support.

Wonder if there is a fix on the way for this?
Is B-Rad's firmware doing this properly?

Strangely here if I play a ripped DVD structure and it is NOT in a VIDEO_TS folder sometimes I get no sound. Also the VIDEO_TS folder needs to be capital letters also to play correctly!! So basically I'm either converting all my rips to MKV or creating the proper VIDEO_TS folder. Some movies I have don't have that folder or are in lower case.

Both of you guys blind? There is context cause a few posts up a screenshot comparison is posted which is also clearly in favor of the standalone. Since it's not my screenshots I cannot provide the same motive displayed by the WD TV.

No surprise there as capital letters are required by the DVD specs. And what's stopping you from renaming them or making a folder? Of course you could just as easily use ISOs.

Lt. Dang, I have just had a quick look at 4 of them and they are avis with a mixture of xvid and div3 codecs.
Last night I tried using MPEG4Modifier to change the aspect ratio of a few videos, it was quick and seemed to work on the xvids but it couldn't do the div3 ones.

I'm slowly addressing this. Eventually I'll have full title set support for dvd's and later on pseudo-menu support. Its going slow because I am extremely busy and I'm doing it for fun+proof of concept, the feature doesn't really do much for me.

It happened to me too but I had also connected optical toslink to the receiver. I checked if receiver was getting the sound if not TV which was connected via HDMI. Yes, the receiever gets the sound. And it is 5.1 too.

I hought D-Link DIR-655 and Buffalo USB network adapter WLI-UC-GN US. Everything is working except after 15 or so mins, WD TV Live drops the signal. Only way to restore it is to reboot the WDTVlive. Has anybody experienced this and found a solution?
Well....I got mine last night and other than the minor issue with sometimes needing a soft power cycle to restore networking I ran into a much more serious issue with playing a video.

Twice, when jumping around with the 10min. skip feature, during DVD VIDEO_TS playback the video would just go black with no sound either. This is after hitting play after using the 10min. skip feature. If I hit stop the menu comes back up, but any video I select from that point on would not play; just a black screen. The only thing I could do was a hard power cycle and that would fix it.

Anyone see this issue?

I'm considering selling my WDTV for a Live. 2 questions - Is the Live smoother in terms of overall interface speed/performance? Is there good 3rd-party FW support for the Live, like the WDTV had?

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but it is not the WDTV Live dropping or disconnecting..... read the Forums.... I found some answers...

Yes and in my case it happened during ISO playback from an attached USB disk.

Guys a question. How can we play external subtitles on a bluray iso? Is it possible?

Please post this in the WDTVFORUM.COM forum as there are alread two people with the same problem. I am one of them. After that happens you have to almost reboot everything, including the player with a power cycle. Why? Have no idea, I just gave up on anykind of fast forward or rewind with this player. My Ultio 800 ripped right through it and NEVER backed down.

I have tried external .srt subtitles on BR .m2ts and it works perfectly well ... Just name the subtitle file the same as .m2ts.
Weird bug

This is an .mkv with an external .SRT subtitle. Notice how the subtitles are way too high, inside the picture frame.

Now this is the same movie and subtitle, merged as a new .mkv with internal subtitles. Notice how the subtitles are now better positioned. If there was a smaller space between the 2 subtitle rows, it would be even better.

To WD: if you cannot give a "subtitle position (offset)" feature, so we can position the subtitles as high as we want, at least make the external subs look like the internal ones (lower). They are too high. Thanks

I am trying to avoid the extra process of creating an ISO file. I created a movie folder , then in that folder I placed the jpg file and the Video _TS file. This did not work. What must I do ? Tks

Use a program that will rip directly to an iso. Then add the jpg to the same hdd.

Ok, got a few questions..

1) Overall, how well does this bad boy work with PlayON? I would love to be able to watch Hulu, Netflix, Revision3, TWiT, etc. using PlayON with the WD Live TV

2) 90% of the SD movies I have are in AVI (using xvid) - will these play flawlessly?

3) If I play an AVI/MKV that has 5.1 surround sound, will I need to do anything special to get true 5.1 surround sound through my receiver? As in, have the listening mode actually display "Dolby Digital EX" or whatever?

Main reason I'm wondering about #3 is that whenever I play movies that have 5.1 surround sound on my 360 using my portable HDD, they definitely are not in true surround sound. I'm using an optical audio cable and get true 5.1 surround when I watch normal DVDs and when I play 360 games.

Just want to get some feedback before I make the jump - thanks guys!

Playback via PlayOn works. The big problem I've seen is with fast forward and reverse. After FF or RW for a while playback stops and returns to the start.

The only thing I've found that doesn't work is Xvid's (3 warp point) GMC. DIV3, DX50, XVID, QPel, 2 B frames, packed bitstream, unpacked bitstream -- all work.

From what I've read this works as it should but I haven't used the digital audio output yet.

Yes, I am having the same issue too. Hopefully WD will look into this soon.

What would be even better: make the sub's outline intransparent again as with the original WD TV, see attachments.

After the firmware update, the issue seems to have gone, although I have only tried 1 movie which was having issues previously. I am yet to check the other movies that had the same problem.

How about adding it as an option instead of the box choosing for us?

I would suggest that you try changing the way you have the WD TV Live connected to your audio device (TV or AV receiver?) to see if that makes a difference (perhaps use Toslink cable instead of HDMI?). That is all I can think of, but maybe someone else here can offer some other suggestions. Anyway, I hope you're able to get things working soon.

Hello all,

I'm about to get the WD Live and I'm looking at external HDDs. I've seen the WD My Passport Mac edition on sale a lot cheaper than the standard PC, just a question...can I just format one of those using my PC then use it as normal with my WD TV Live?

Thank you.
I'm very satisfied with my WD Live but I hope someone can help me with the network shares.

The network connection on the WDTV2 is ok and I have made some shares on my PC. On the WDTV2 is see the PC under Video/network shares. User and password is entered correctly but then I get a message "there are no files on this folder to play". Have the shares to be in a certain form? (the manual says nothing about that)

I didn't install any of the software (on the CD)
