I have a WD MyDVR Expander that I no longer use for it's intended purpose. I removed the WD drive from the case and hooked it up to a USB > SATA adapter. When I hook that up to the WD TV LIve, it can be seen through my network as a network drive. So, I'm guessing WD is making use of their drives almost essential for full use with the WD TV Live.

I'm running Maxtor and Seagate drives and WD and my network see
them as network drives.

Both of those connected to the WD TV Live?

Anyone?

Are talking about the jpg size in the UI? Not that I know of.

If you are talking about a firmware update, you can go to the system options and install a firmware update over your network. Just click on update firmware, WD TV Live will download and install the firmware update. Either that or go down to Walmart (or some other such store) and buy a cheap 2GB USB thumb drive.

Thanks man! I'll go with the flash drive option. Didn't even think of that. Silly me.

And yeah, the jpgs in the UI

How about this - is it possible to set the default option for Videos? All Videos makes very little sense. I would rather the menu to default to Folders. Is it possible to change it?

No way to default to folders, but it is only a couple of down clicks to get to it from all video. There seems to be a lot of people wanting a way to default to a certain spot. Maybe WD is listening and they build that option into an upcoming firmware update. Who knows? I personally want mine to default to media servers/PlayOn. But I can live with what I have.

some of us who are/were original wdtv owners have been asking for months and months for wd to allow the users a choice (novel concept!) as to what screen appears by default. the user interface should have been designed that way from the get go. the hardware design of the wd media players really are commendable, but it's becoming quite apparent that wd is more of a hardware company than a software one. they design great hardware with substandard firmware support. it appears that the xtreamer has far better fw support, but i much prefer the hardware design of the wd live.

so far our requests to have a choice in what screen defaults to upon start-up have fallen on deaf ears, so don't hold your breath.

i have just recently began to have issues with my wdtv live. it started occurring after i did the firmware update. coincidence? maybe. but it never did this once prior to the update.

problem:

the connection to my network drops out of nowhere. i can be 1/2 way through a movie and all of a sudden the connection drops and i have to power down the player (i couldn't get it to reconnect by simply just going back to my shared folder). i am running vista 64 bit on the pc it connects to with my hard drive connected via. e-sata port. everything is hard wired. what is going on here?
The thumbnails color in the old WDTV seem more clearer/nicer than the Live. Is there a way I can adjust or that's it? I think I read it some where in this thread about this but no solution. The movies are fine though.

Derelict_Drvr / DocuMaker - ok thanks guys. I may look into the custom firmware community to see what they're doing with the box. It would be great to see a similar UI but with just a few things edited to address feedback from us. We'll see

install wdlxtv-live and you've got 6 variations of thumbnail size, selectable with a minimal amount of work

& disable media library to make all videos disappear...

I am in the same situation and badly needs this functionality. Since you mention the latest firmware like that, do you mean that it actually worked in a previous? If so it might "just" be a temporary bug which hopefully could be fixed in a future firmware release meaning I can keep the box instead of returning it...

No, it didn't work in earlier version. the main reason why i upgraded from the WD to the WD Live is that i can share private youtube movies with family and friends. If this "bug" will be fixed i will suggest my family and friends to buy the Live

Just wanted to point out that Best Buy's cyber Monday deal includes the WDTV Live for $120 with free $20 gift certificate.

OMG I thought I was the only one with those needs. My reason for buying this is EXACTLY the same. I wonder if they are able to fix it though as it could be something with the google api, on the other hand no other product I have tried has been able to show the actual thumbnails of the private videos only the public ones, so if we are lucky it is in fact "just" a bug, I mean why show the thumbnails if you are unable to play the content...

5 minutes before you posted I actually wrote an email to the online store requesting a RMA number as I have to return within 14 days, and because of delivery problems time is running out for me.. Now after talking to you I get second thoughts about returning.. Decisions.. Decisions...

Also if you look at my previous post at
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...5#post17610185

Issue 5 is kind of annoying too... Guess you experienced the same?
yes, issue 5 is my second most frustrating.
Regarding issue 1 in this post:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...5#post17610185

Yesterday I actually took the chance and reported the issue directly to the wd support team. And what do you know, they just responded. The support guy told me that the development team was working round the clock to fix this issue. I guess that means there is still hope for us

Has anyone found a suitable component out cable that can be used with the WDTVLive? It appears that the output jack on the back resembles some small mini-jack.
I would like to use the unit as a music only system, connected via spdif & component out into the aux video inputs of my AVR/TV. But i need to be able to view the GUI on occasion.

Anything wrong with the cable that comes with it?
Mine came with that cable. Look deeper in the box.

Finally picked up my wdtv live a couple days ago. Other than the previously reported issues (dup thumbnails, etc) I haven't experienced any problems at all. However, I think I would like to try out the custom firmware that is available. My question is, does installing that firmware devoid any type of WD warranty?
is there any way to have both stereo output and digital output both on at the same time? My tv is connected via stereo output and my receiver via digital. I'd like the ability to use either one independently from the other, without going to menu and selecting the output type.

I'd want simultaneous output too... They've luckily added this to the XTreamer recently...

Hi,

My experiences with network issues:

- It seems like my connection drops only when I have more computers connected to the router. It seems like the WDTV Live gets confused when more than one pc is on the network.

- I have struggled a lot with Shared folders in WIN 7 x64. Finally I've had it working, but when turning the WDTV Live on I need to wait around 10 minutes for the shares to be discovered.

Has anyone tried programming a Harmony remote with the WDTV live? I tried programming the 10 minute skip feature using a sequence of fast forward and then chapternext buttons, but it didn't seem to work.
