Western Digital - WD TV Live Media Player (WDTV2) - Page 231

^^That's weird, I don't have a problem playing wmv files with my Live Plus. You can use Realplayer Converter, they have a variety of different file options.
It plays SOME wmv files. Maybe there is a different in the files?

There is no question about it. If it plays some of your wmv's and not others, there is a difference. Your WD box should play all properly made wmv's.

Run Media Info on a good file, and again on a bad file and post the results here. We will then be able to see the difference between the two files and try to help you.

Page 157 of the Live Plus manual gives you a list of supported formats.

Your two files are different for sure. Look at the video format differences as well as the audio format differences. I'm not sure why the 'bad one' will not play however.

2 questions:

1) Can you play the bad one on your computer?

2) Did you create the files? If so, what did you use and why did you do them differently.
I can play ALL of them on the computer and no, I didn't create any of them

If I were in your shoes I would:

1) Have some VERY strong anti-virus protection running on my computer

2) Try a program like Handbrake to convert the 'bad' files that work on your PC into a format and container that will work on your WD box.

First, why the antivirus comment?

Second, got the handbrake but why not any video converter and

Third, what's the main difference/issues between the files?

Thanks

[First] My attempt at lame humor assuming you were downloading the files you are not creating yourself.

[Second] I said "Try a program like Handbrake". Use whatever you like. The point is that the act of converting them to a format and container that will work will solve your problem.

[Third] Both the video and audio codecs are very different. Converting the files as I suggest will fix that for you.

Try demuxing the audio and video into separate files. See if you can isolate which is causing the problem. I suspect the 22 KHz audio at 16 Kbps...

Went right over my head didn't it?
Yes, I had downloaded the files but beyond that, I can't tell you much nor do I have any idea of any of the other stuff or what to do

Don't even know what demuxing is to be honest...

Load your file into Handbrake and output it to 'best' quality. I don't have it installed, and I don't remember exactly what the 'best' format is called.

Pick one in the list on the right side of the program and Handbrake will automatically set itself for you. Pick the one that sounds like it will be the best quality. Don't pick the ones for small screens, like 'iPod'.

I'm sure that will fix your 'bad' files.

I can't seem to log into YouTube on my WDTV Live anymore. Checked my credentials on my PC and they work, so it's definitely something with the WDTV. It always used to work -- could it be something with the new firmware?
The new firmware works fine with all my logins, so it's not the firmware but could be something else on your part.

No, it must be a setting on your end.

Try re-entering your log in info assuming you've already checked your internet connection.

Sorry if this has been asked and answered previously. I tried searching but couldn't find what i was looking for.

I use the Network Shares option to play music. My folder structure on my computer where my files are stored are Lossless->Artist->Album. In the Album folders is where i have stored my ripped vinyl and CD collection saved in the FLAC format.

I want to be able to navigate to the Lossless parent folder, hit play on it and then have all the songs in the sub-folders under this folder play in shuffle mode.

Is this possible somehow?
Thanks

That would be great

But I think it is not possible

Demuxing is when you separate a file out into its constituent parts. ie something which is JUST the video file no sound or anything else. And something which is a soundtrack, and just the soundtrack and no video or anything else, and possibly a subtitle file etc
post #6923 of 7079
Does anyone here know if this thing would switch to its source automatically like how a DVD or BD player would do after you hit the ower button or play? I've been manually selecting the input source myself on the receiver after I turned on the WD. I'm guessing maybe this has something to do with HDMI CEC and the feature is absent?

Yes. Try WmvMuxer, SolviegMM ASF Multiplexor, Windows Media Encoder, for example.

Hi, I have a question that has been bugging me for some time and I hope that you guys can answer it.

I have an 8 Bay JBOD Sans Digital Enclosure filled with 3 TB Hitachi 5400 RPM Drives connected to my PC. The Model of the Enclosure is TR8U+B and it uses USB 3.0.

On my PC each drive shows up individually, not as one massive volume. I've got alot of media stored on my enclosure and I would like to be able to access the media from my WD TV Live Media Player.

So here's my question: Would physically connecting my 8 bay JBOD Enclosure into my WD TV Live Media Player work? Would all 8 drives show up?
If that won't work then what are my alternatives?

Any help is greatly appreciated
On my live the shared folders show up just as they are on my PC, haven't shared a whole drive in it yet.
I THINK they will show up just like a drive does in one of the USB ports if you share each one as a whole drive.
My drives in the ports show up like any other drive depending on the format you use to see the files. I usually use the list function then it's laid out like any file manager I'm used to with folders and files.

Install DLNA software on your PC such as Twonky, add the folders where your content is in the Twonky UI, and all will show up on the WD for streaming.

Edit: Or even the built in windows Media Player is a DLNA renderer.

Turn on file sharing on the drives connected to your PC. On the WD you will be able to see the drives and watch content from them. I have several external and one internal drive on my PC networked/shared for the 700+ DVDs on them to stream to the WD in our living room. No issues but since my network is not GB I can't stream BD's.

No they won't.
I have the Live+ but this information should apply to the Live as well. The USB port on the Live(+) does not support multiple hard disk volumes on a USB hub. If you plug in your enclosure you will only see one disk volume (I don't know which one).

The Live(+) does support GUID partition tables for large (>2TB) disk volumes. You need to set the switches on your enclosure to configure the array as a single large (>2TB) volume, then using your PC (Win Vista or Win-7 only, not XP) you change the partition table from the old style MFT to GUID and reformat the array -- if you leave the partition table as MFT, the array will only format to 2048GB, the MFT volume limit. This, of course, will wipe out all information currently on the disks and you will have to reload it. Once you have reloaded all the video files onto the array you can plug it into your WD Live(+) USB port and the Live(+) will see the single large volume. You can share the volume on the network through the Live (+) and access it with your PC -- the Live(+) will act as a simple server. This way you can do future loading and management without having to port the array back to your PC each time.

I have the Live+ and did this with a 2-bay Rosewill USB enclosure and a pair of Seagate 2TB drives configured as a single 4TB array. Worked perfectly. As noted, the simplest alternative would be to share the individual volumes from the PC and use the PC as a server to the WD Live. You would then see each individual drive and you can name them to reflect the content.

Thanks guys! Say I keep the Multi bay enclosure connected to my PC and enable sharing for all my drives in the enclosure and stream the media over my network to my Media Player, would that work? Would all drive show up by doing that? I have a wired network, I believe I'm using Cat 6 for my computer and devices. Any issues from doing that? Thanks
