Mitsubishi 82" Owners - What Stand Are You Using?

I have seen some of the guys using this one

I have been using 82837 since 07/16/09. I have Salamander furniture under the 82837. It is sturdy under the TV. It has wheels or casters and Black. I paid over $1300 for this custom made piece.

I'm considering the Tech Craft BCE72, I hope it looks better in person than the pics on the internet. The salesmen said the Mitsu rep recommends the same Mitsu stand the 73" uses, have about 5" of overhang on each side

I'm getting the 73837 delivered this weekend, so I too am looking at stands.

The problem is that most stands are between 21-22" high, so with 2 shelves, that leaves little more than about 8" height for each shelf--very limiting.

My center channel won't fit in less than 10" high shelf, and I've got 4 components to put on the shelves... and the standard width seems to be about 16-17" for most electronics...

That was kinda my point, the generally accepted stand height is 22-23" for proper viewing height of the tv. Given that measurement, you'll almost never have more than about 8 1/2 inches height per shelf...

My speaker is 9 1/2" wide (when properly placed vertically), so laying it on its side it would be 9 1/2" tall.

I've physically measured stands with a tape measure at the store, there is not enough clearance for my speaker... I wasn't measuring from any overhangs or lips on the front, it was from bottom of one shelf to the very bottom of the next shelf up... not even close to 9" for the stands I looked at...

Yeah, can't decide what should be my dependent or limiting factor in the decision.

1) Thought about a shelf above the tv, but it would have to extend out about 18" if I wanted the speaker to be relatively flush with the front of the tv (RPTV, not flat panel)--doable, but not what I really want. Plus the speaker probably weighs 30-40 lbs...

2) Piece together a "stand" for the tv with a couple of bookshelf type end units, piece of plywood top, open in the center (that'd be real purdy! LOL), or build custom--probably too much $.

3) Build new center channel speaker. But if it's too wide, I might not have enough space for components on the middle shelf on either side of the speaker...

Since my speakers are DIY (Vifa and Seas drivers, air core inductors, poly caps, silver xover wiring in high pass section, etc... so they aren't a budget set), if I replace the center channel, I'd want something close in sound character.

Haven't used my router and circle cutting jig in a while, maybe it's time to fire it up!!

Best short term solution is probably a make shift stand for the speaker in front of the tv stand...

LOL, that's exactly the equipment rack I'm using now... threaded rod, MDF, etc... painted it all black.

Off topic I suppose, but what if I didn't put the center channel flush with the front of the tv? Suppose it was 6" behind it, on a shelf above it?

Would 6" really kill the sound field? Isn't that somewhat the point of putting speaker distance into the receiver? (although I don't know if I can enter it in 6" increments)

If I had a 13" deep shelf (still not small), speaker is 11 1/2" deep, plus some room for wires, tilt it forward a bit... hmmmm? that's certainly more doable than an 18" shelf...

(maybe I'll just use milk crates and cinder blocks!!!!!!!)

The entire speaker would be above the tv, but the front plane of the speaker would be behind the front plane of the tv screen... but... according to the Mitsubishi specs, I think the tv is 43.6" high (I must have looked at it a lot to remember the .6), plus stand height of 23" = 66". Then add speaker height of 14", and the tweeter is over 6' above floor...

But if I put the speaker on a stand on the floor in front of the tv, there'd be even more of a difference between the front planes of speaker and tv screen...

I was thinking of soundfield imaging issues...

I can see that eventually I should replace the center speaker with something a bit slimmer, and probably got to a 3 or 4-way design (current speakers are 2-way).
