Also; I think this is the first thread I have seen utilizing the additional front speaker effects

The additional front speakers you see on top of my main speakers, are not hooked up, they are there for looks now, safer then leaving them in the middle of the walking area. They are going to become Front Wides in a Audyssey DSX 9.2 setup. The subs are already in place, they are Danley DTS-10's.

I suppose my recently completed home theater reno rates as a "non-dedicated" home theater room, insofar as I retrofitted a projection-based
system into my former living room and 2 channel listening room.

The system has a variable image size set up: automated 4 way masking for the screen. I often close the screen off when listening to 2 channel or surround music. Projector is hidden behind the sofa. It's on an automated lift that raises it for movie watching.

From the sofa: The image size was set to a small 16:9 image for this shot, but it can open up to 124" wide for cinemascope and up to 130" diagonal for 16:9:

This is the layout in our current house, we're moving in 2 weeks. I plan on having a dedicated room in the new one, in the basement. I already have to create a soundproof room for my son to practice guitar and drums so, while I'm at it

Don't mind the logo on the photo, it's the real estate company that took the picture (I like it )



Axiom sub, fronts and center, Energy surround speakers (to be replaced @ new house with Axiom as well).

TV is a JVC HD-ILA 62" I think.

I love seeing the stack of ONKY gear. I've been hooked on Onkyo/Paradigm since the mid 80's. I'm planning an upgrade to a NR3xxx within the next year as well as a Paradigm upgrade after that.

Looks like you have a dedeicated Onkyo Blu ray, HD-DVD and DVD player. Do you use the standard DVD player much?

Your room/system reminds me of our most recent set up prior to moving.

Wow, there's a lot of nice setups in here. I'll have a picture or two to add in a few weeks, 2 weeks to carpet and cabinets, and then it's go live time! It's not going to be quite as nice as some of those on here unfortunately...but I won't be done yet.

I have to comment on your poster SUBnet192...I've got 3 Indiana Jones posters I've had since I went to college over 15 years ago. I kept them in the original wrapping, the cardboard is a little warped now. Ok, a lot warped. My plan has always been to frame and hang them once I got a 'more' dedicated area, which has taken me about 10 years (we move too much). I don't have much faith as I've been afraid to look at them too closely, but I'm hoping they're still frameable and can look almost as nice as yours!

This is my non-dedicated portion of my basement. As someone else said in this thread, we don't use our main living room much anymore.

Moved into my first (rented) house - what a bitchin' living room. I've been in the process of making it look more "professional". So far I've gotten rid of the surround speaker stands I made in college in favor of wall mounting them. While they are rear ported, I think they have about 3" or so to blow. I've also gotten a new TV stand that has worked out just perfect for my equipment.

Next on the list is new front speaker stands, a new subwoofer, and a more comfortable futon/couch!

How do you like the "acoustic panels"?

Here's my family room. We actually moved all this OUT of our basement because we hated hearing the heater and AC kicking on (the service room was right next to our TV room).

They help a lot. I have a raised foundation and the rear wall is sheetrock, so the panels help absorb unwanted echo. I have a total of four and I plan on getting two more.

Hehe thanks guys, yes no kids yet... when the time comes a house with a nice home theater room will be the answer... but for now Il stick to the affordable solution.. :-)

My living room "Home AV Room" since I dare not call it a HT.

The house was base manufacturer spec (white walls, no light fixtures, trim, bronze doorhandles/hardware, etc...) when we bought it in October 2010. I've since painted, added window dressings, crown molding, light fixtures and changed out the door handles and lighting switches. Also I ran my own electrical circuits for the media closet, bedroom wall mounted tv and living room wall mounted tv. I also ran all my own low voltage wiring.
