Wiring headphone speakers to 3.5mm audio jack

This is tricky because most headphone cables they try to keep the wire small and flexable but still keep them seperated so they dont short. So what they do is epoxy cote the wires. Usualy they are red and green when you strip away the outside coating. You cant really solder or get any kind of a good connection because of the colored epoxy. What you have to do is use an asprin, usualy somthing like the cheap $1. store asprin or the old round white pill bayer. Sit the wire on the asprin and thin sit your soldering iron on the wire and asprin. The asprin etches away the epoxy some how and exsposes just the wire it can also tin the wire at the same time if your tip has a little solder left on it.

It works good, then you can do any repairs you want.

The plug types im not sure about i just know you my run into problems with connections unless you etch the colored epoxy off the wires.

What exactly are you trying to do? What do you have now on the headphones? Just a bare cable? What headphones do you have?

That questions makes me think you are trying to do more than just repair a connector or cable on a pair of headphones.

Yes. Fortunately, this arrangement comes pre-made in nearly endless variety at very good prices. Procuring such devices is known as "buying headphones".

Clearly you are trying to do something else. What are you trying to do?

If you want to hear it from more than a few inches away, headphone speakers won't be loud enough. You'll need different speakers and an amplifier of some kind. Cheap powered computer speakers would work and are cheap, but generally don't sound very good for music (though may still be fine depending on what you are trying to do).

You want to add an aux in basically, so you can plug another source into the headphones. It may work, but it might not be load enough. There is a small amplifier used for the AM/FM radio. If you could figure out how to add the aux in before the amplifier it would sound fine, but that may be difficult. If you wire the speakers directly to the IPOD, it may not have enough power. A headphone amp or a headphone out from a receiver may solve the problem.

I'd say it's one of those project of trial and error, unless you can find someone else that has tried it. Good luck.

Could you just wear ear buds for the IPOD under the headphones? Might save a lot of trouble.

Some people dont like pushing things in their ears and alot of the ear buds dont fit some users.

Ive modified peltor ear muffs for speakers and they didnt really sound all that great. I think i used the wrong type of driver. The driver i used sounded better with an open back, once in the peltor they were like a sealed bass cabnet or somthing and they lost all their bass.
