Did you solve your focus problem with the projector? Was the problem that the screen and projector weren't coplanar?

I haven't solved the focus issue yet. A couple nights ago, I did the string thing but that didn't seem to solve the issue. I'm worried it's problems with the optics, but I'm going to try starting from scratch and seeing if I can get it working..

So I finally got the equipment door built. I've been thinking about how to do it forever, but it finally came together. Didn't have much time to do anything this weekend, was working most of the weekend on work work.

I haven't installed the magnetic clasps yet, but otherwise, it works great and is smooth to open and the fit is good.

Also got around to installing one sconce on the left wall. Will do the right wall when I get the panels done, and will activate the circuit at the same time.

A couple pics:

The equipment door closed. The fabric pattern is obviously done to match with the panels that will eventually be there to make it "disappear".

The door open. I put black GoM on the back side.

A shot of the piano hinge I used to hang it.

The sconce on the left wall. Will look better when lit up.

That's it for now! More panels coming soon...

Looks awesome Rob!

p.s. - That blu-ray player is going to buy you a Swiffer for Christmas for sure!

Lol, yeah, with all the building still going on, dust is going everywhere.

I'm saving it all up and will do one big cleanup when I'm done instead of bit by bit.

Some nice weather and being sick slowed me down the past week, so I haven't got much done. I have finished the big section on the right side of the theater is where the equipment door is.

Here are some pics:

The wall with the door closed.

The wall with the door open.

I'm pretty happy with the results. I have some tweaks to do to get the panels to line up at the seam of the door, but besides that, it's pretty much done.

Tons more panels to do at the back of the room, and I want to convert the two middle seats in the back row to a loveseat... I had ordered a love-seat config, but the order got screwed up. We'll see how that goes...

Looking good Rob!

Ahem, excuse me, but I do believe it is time for you requisite monthly update.

Bill,

You're absolutely right, it's about time. Unfortunately, I haven't been at home for the past month so I've done NOTHING on the theater.

I did manage to convert the middle two seats of the back row into a loveseat though. That made the wife very happy as well.

I should get back to the theater in a couple weeks and still hopefully be able to finish the fabric panels by Xmas time. I have about 32 panels left to make...

I'll post pics of the loveseat conversion next time I get a chance.

Hey Chuck!

You've cycled through 3 different projectors and I still haven't finished yet. :P

I'm hoping to get back to it soon... life just got in the way...

I've watched lots of movies down there though -- awesome!!

Hi all,

After months of no posts... I finally finished the theater today. It's been two and a half years in the making.

Some personal issues have prevented me from working on it and I've finally gotten around to the end. Unfortunately, I probably have to sell my house and move on, so it means all the work was for nought... I'm trying to keep it, but right now, it doesn't look so good.

In any case, here are some pics I just took with my Nikon D5100 which I finally pulled the trigger on. I also took some screenshots to see how that'd turn out.

I won't label the photos, they are pretty self-explanatory...

Enjoy!

Talk to y'all soon.

Hopefully you will get to keep the house, but regardless, the theater is simply amazing. You did an outstanding job. Hopefully you will be able to continue to enjoy it.

Damn, that room is GORGEOUS! Well done! I hope that things work out for you. If you have to move on, you have to move on.... You'll build v. 2.0 in your new place and make all of us jealous of you 21.1 surround and holographic z-axis projection environment with voice activated control!

Do you get any glare off your center channel? Could a person fabric the top of it to minimize the glare? Other than that, i may be stealing a few ideas!!! looks great!

Hey Chase,

I actually built a fabric-framed box around the center channel. You can see it in the final build pictures. One of the reasons I did it was to eliminate the glare off the shiny lacquered wood of the Paradigm Studio series. The other reason was to maintain consistency with the other speakers -- there were no other visible speakers in the theater. Too bad because the Studio 100 and Studio CC-690 are both BEAUTIFUL speakers.

Good luck with your build!

Rob, your fabric panels turned out fantastic, very professional appearance, about the best I've seen on AVS. Love the stage and steps too. I hope you get to keep the place.

Thanks Dale,

That's saying a lot. Your project is coming along nicely too. Feels good to get the rough stuff out of the way. Now you can start with the finishing. The finishing work took me about as much time as all the prep work and rough. Maybe a bit longer.

Good luck!

That looks amazing, I love it! Great job, hopefully you don't have to sell your house!!

Where did you get that door? Manufacturer?
Looks Great ... now get in there and watch some movies!

Amazing final result. Something to really be proud of, especially when it's taken hundreds of hours to construct. Thanks for sharing, I may even steal a few ideas regardin your light placement.

Hey Larry,

The door is from a local manufacturer here in Quebec, Canada called Boiseries BG. They're used by all the local contractors. It works really well in sealing out the sound.

Thanks Emag,

Unfortunately, I have to leave it for someone else to enjoy as I've sold my house.

I listened to/watched Adele's Royal Albert Musuc Hall concert in there the other night... It was incredible! Those Paradigm Studio 100s are brilliant!
Wow, bravo on a job well done. I can only imagine the reactions when you bring friends over and show them that room.
