the only minor glitch was the delivery itself. this is a really large piece of furniture. the mid level delivery option was for a driver to deliver and bring the haven into the house, including moving it up a few outdoor steps. well, this was way too big for a handtruck of any sort, so the driver and i had to carry it in. not a big deal but i had paid a little extra for delivery so i didn't have to deal with that. i called standout to let them know the midlevel delivery by driver was really not feasible with the haven unit. they said it was a relatively new model and they didn't think that would be an issue. they apologized for the inconvenience and credited me for the extra shipping cost. they also added this info to their website to alert customers to the potential issue. on top of the sale price and discounted shipping, it really made this a great deal. cheaper than the salamander unit i was designing, and much nicer quality to boot.

i'll post some pics in the coming days. but can't speak highly enough of the product quality and customer service of this company. highly recommend!!

Don't forget the pics. I'm thinking of getting this stand also. I'll be using it for a 84" LG set that is supposed to be out around July. I've never paid this kind of money for a stand but the glowing reports here make up for that. I won't be buying a tv or stand for quite some time after I get these. I'll give the stand that holds my PN64D8000 to my brother in-law and hopefully the TV will be sold soon also.

Well looks like no stand for the Super Bowl. They are running at least a week behind with my order, and haven't provided an estimated shipping date. If anyone is ordering I would suggest calling to get up to date information on when they will be able to ship.

The shipping date on all pieces are estimates. As your piece is complete you will get an actual ship date when they have arranged freight shipment.

Yeah I called them yesterday and they said they were running behind with some manufacturing issues.

You are going to save at most $100 - $200 during the sales unless it is a clearance item. Usually $100 off the stand, and another $100 in shipping.

This is pretty much right. I ordered about a month back, and got 150$ off the 2-drawer Horizon. It was 100$ off the 1-drawer horizon. Still waiting for it it be ready to ship at this point due to the delays.

If you call them and ask about any current deals, they will likely give you the last offer they had.

BTW - How does the cabling work with these? One pic showed the back "sealed". How would one run speaker cables or cables between your AVR and DVD (for example)?

There are cable holes to route through and the back panels are removable.

I'm trying to decide between the Majestic Grand and the BDI Casata 8629-2. I've seen the BDI finishes, etc., at some local stores here in Northern Virginia) but of course haven't seen the Standout at all. It may sound like a strange request, but if there's anyone in the Northern Virginia area that has a Majestic Grand that wouldn't mind showing it to a fellow AVS Forum member, please PM me. I'd especially like to see one in Black on Oak, although just seeing one in any finish in person would be great before spending this kind of money.

Received my Majestic Grand e7022 and am pleased as punch.

I'll take some time this week to snap a bunch of pictures and post here.

If you are considering the Casata, I might consider the Horizon as well. The Horizon matches the Casata's dimensions a bit more closely, and is a bit cheaper than the Majestic Grand. Although if you prefer the look of the Majestic Grand, that's another story.

I'd recommend having them send out the samples to you. If you PM me, I can probably mail out the samples they gave me as well. That would give you a rough idea of the finishes available for the standard wood. I wasn't looking at the premium woods, so I didn't get those samples.

The black on Oak is definitely black on Oak. If you've ever seen Polk RTi4s (or similar), the black stain on Oak is identical. I went with espresso instead because a piece of furniture that big in black was just a little too black for me, and the espresso sample fades into a dark room just as well.

Thanks for your response. I have their wood samples, which I got a few weeks back. We have two large rosewood cabinets (danish design I think) in the family room where the 50 inch plasma is mounted on the wall. The rosewood has very distinctive redish and black grain, and I can't think of anything else other than black that might look good in the same room. I'm not a fan of oak and it's wide grain. I noticed on the Standout Designs web site that they have a new Rosenut color, which could possibly work, but I didn't receive that in the samples I got recently. I called them today, and they said they would send me out a sample. They also said that they could do black on Maple, and would send me a sample of that also. They were very helpful. Maple has a very tight grain, so, as she pointed out, the black color makes it difficult to see the grain.

I actually like the sleeker design of the BDI Casata 8629-2 better than any of the Standout pieces, but of course I like that the Standout is solid wood and not veneer like the BDI. I also like that the Standout designs have many ways you can customize it (glass, hardware, drawers, etc.). I can get the BDI for cheaper than any of the Standouts, however, with the President's weekend sales ($1500), although price is not a great consideration with something we'll be living with for the next 20+ years. Decisions, decisions.

Yup, you are in the same boat I'm in. I wanted something that would last a while, but also had the space for the speakers/TV I am using. I either had to go fairly wide (70+" wide) or something in the 50" range with an integrated mount. There really aren't too many options in this area beyond something custom. BDI, Salamander, and Standout Designs being the biggest names for non-custom pieces. I looked mostly at BDI and Standout (I didn't like the look of the Salamander stuff), and felt torn for the same reasons you describe.

While I do like the minimalist designs from BDI, they just don't offer the exact stuff I want that compares to the features of the Standout Designs kit. I've got the black puck Apple TV and a Logitech IR->PS3 adapter. These look kinda goofy no matter where you put them. So my plan is to use the center speaker grill kit to not only hide my 20" wide center speaker, but these two things as well where IR can still reach them. I fully expect to be able to stream something via the Apple TV from my desktop and have someone ask where the heck it is.

Standout offers a different form of minimalism I've grown to like more: That all someone sees is my TV, the stand, and the two bookshelf speakers. Everything else is hidden from view. Remotes, game controllers, etc all have a spot that is accessible but out of the way. No center speaker poking out from the middle of the stand either.

The solid wood also has one possibly important benefit over MDF: it is lighter. A similar BDI piece is a good 27+lbs heavier than the solid wood version (187 lbs vs <159 lbs for the Horizon). I don't mind the MDF, but I'm willing to pay a bit more for a piece that I can move a little more easily. And Standout Designs produces matching shelving which I am considering later this year.

The two companies have two fairly different approaches. BDI has a wider array of unflexible designs in the hope that one is close enough to what you want. Standout is more about offering a couple designs with enough flexibility that you can make those designs work for you. It means you are more likely to find the non-mainstream stuff like ventilation fans and more ways to hide center speakers.

You're probably right about the weight. By the way, where did you get the weight of the BDI? I don't see the weight in the catalog, but just got off the phone with a CSR at BDI and he guessed it was around 195 lbs unboxed. I see the weight of the Standout on their web site.

That's a good point about the other little gadgets and where to place them. I have a Roku box that I'll need to place somewhere, that is only connect via WIFI. I'm afraid that if I put it in the cabinet behind closed doors that I won't get very good WIFI reception. I know it's kind of nice to have everything hidden (my wife is all for that), I don't think I want my center channel speaker as low as the top center opening in either of these cabinets. The Standout Majestic is 24 in high, and the BDI is 21.5. That means the speaker would be only 15 inches of so off the ground, and the bottom of my TV is 28 inches off the ground. If I put the speaker in the top center compartment, it will be looking right into my coffee table and I don't think that will sound that good. Thus, to my wife's chagrin, I'm thinking I would put the speaker on top of the cabinet, right under the TV. Luckily it's a small speaker (Energy Take Classic), so it won't be that noticeable.

I certainly appreciate all your thoughts, but the more I look at it the more I'm thinking I'm going to go with the BDI, even though the Standout has more options, etc. It just is more attractive (I like modern) to me. My wife of course likes the Standout more. I'm going to wait until I get the sample of the Black on Maple from Standout before we finally decide. The guy from the BDI store called me back this afternoon and was willing to give me a another 5% off (up to 20%) if I purchased it today. Amazing but I'm going to have to wait.

There is a column of buttons on the right side of each model's page. Click on "Specifications" and it brings up all sorts of useful measurements of the unit. Including height/width of the shelving spaces to make sure everything fits, and the weight of the unit itself. The BDI unit you are looking at is actually one of the BDI units I was considering, and I had done some work with the measurements earlier on that model before I settled on the Horizon instead.

FYI: Horizon is 24" high, Majestic is 22". I had to double-check myself, since I knew the Majestic was shorter than the Horizon, but I thought the Horizon was 22". Whoops. Either way, the Horizon is as tall as my current stand.

And yup, I still understand your position. If we all liked the same thing or had the same priorities, competition between products would be pretty meaningless.

OK, I see it now. Thanks. I can tell that getting either of these into the house, even with two people, will be a chore (unless they are pretty strong guys). I hope you are happy with whatever you eventually decide.

For what it's worth my delivery driver (with the cheapest delivery option) was able to move my Majestic to the porch on a dolly quite easily. We both grabbed an end and carried it into the living room from there. He even helped me move it into position after the box was opened up. Not bad at all really, but I have a rambler.

If you have steps, well... that's probably going to be another story :-)

My camera is with Fujifilm for a repair, but once back there will be pics. The stand looks awesome.

Delivery of my Horizon is scheduled for Friday, and I'll definitely be taking a couple pictures. This has been part of a somewhat long process starting in December to update my "home theater" area of the apartment. And I'm not done yet it seems.

If this goes well, I'll probably be swapping out my bookshelves for something similar to the Horizon N100 media towers. Don't know if I'll go with Standout themselves, but I'm seeing a lot of particle board junk in the same price range. It'll either be custom made locally or I'll grab a pair of the Horizon towers.

The Horizon I've got coming is one of the first made after the changes they say they've made to the wood/finishes in January, so it'll be interesting to see how the Espresso stain compares to other photos I've seen.

The stand arrived today. The delivery folks even commented that it was the second stand they were delivering from Standout Designs today. It came right out of manufacturing, so there was some dust and the like to clean out, and the smell of the stain is still quite strong.

But other than that, it is a very good piece of furniture. I'm glad I got it.
