The Dark Night sound track sounds awesome. I don't really listen to that much music, it was purchased for me.

The surrounds look great.

btw, I was looking to get Linkin Park this week I need to upgrade my collection, we like the same music. Foo Fighters Live in London is what I have listened too the most in my room actually. I only have about 10 music DVDs....and about 10,000 songs ripped.

Whatever you do, track down a copy of the 5.1 LP Reanimation album. They released both a dedicated DVD-A disc as well as a "Dual Disc" version. I'll track down the Foo Fighters Live disc to give it a go.

I'm about the same with you on the ripped music all from original CD's in my collection.

The 10" waveguides sound great!! It's funny how alot of people don't pay attention to rear surrounds yet when you properly implement good quality speakers back there, it changes the whole experience.

Cool, I will look for it.

Tomorrow Im going out to get Transformers 2 BD....I can not wait for that one tomorrow night!! I saw it in Theater but I know my room is a whole new experience and I know its going to kick ass (I loved the action in it!!)

Thanks MK!! I'm installing the woofers today so I'll update the picks as soon as I can. This weekend I'll finally be staining and finishing the columns. From there will be the walls.

Agreed, The Dark Knight BD is awesome. 2 scenes that come to mind is the entire transportation of Harvey Dent segment and when the hospital blows.

With Transformers 2 BD, your first "jolt" as in "OMG where's the remote" will come not even 10 minutes into the movie. If you like loud soundtracks, Transformers 2 delivers all the way!!!

I'm along way off from completing my clones (LCR)...parts are all nicely lined up against the wall. I'm planning on building an extension to the house for a dedicated theater. After that's done, I can build the 2150's. I haven't decided on surrounds yet but may do something similar to your approach or maybe try to model the QSC surrounds.

BTW your project looks great! Keep up the good work.

I was looking at these: http://www.qscaudio.com/products/spe...a_solution.htm as well as yours. However, the parts for the SR-8100 do not appear to be readily available. That tweeter does look familiar.

I think the parts for the QSC HPR-153 are the same.

We are discussing the surrounds which are different. I already have the parts for three SC-2150's which are similar to the HPR-153 except for the crossovers.

Well looking at the surround of the 8" woofer on the SR-8100, it does look like a Celestion driver. There are 15" and 18" woofers from them that have the same unique looking surround. All we'd have to do is find out which driver it is. Last would be the xover and you could probably order that through QSC.

Here the the surrounds now complete with woofers installed. YAY!!! This weekend will be finishing up the columns by staining and sealing them. Also, the grills will be installed.

Now I can finally proceed in finishing up the theater!! There's ALOT of work to be done!!

Funny that you say that... I ran 2 of the rear surround in stereo yesterday just to see how they would sound with music and they slaughtered the previous mains (JBL E100's) that I had in that room. The mating of the Dayton 12" DVC was a great choice.

They are more than likely overkill as surrounds but they play back everything perfectly. Also once I'm done with the columns, you wont even know that they are there until pointed out.

I'll put it like this... It sounds like there is no speakers in a fixed position. What I mean by that is since all speakers blend perfectly with one another, pans from the rear in any direction to the front in any direction (also in vice versa) sound as if there are no gaps between the speakers.

The rears sound great BUT I did have to lower them in order to strike a correct balance between front and rear. The sides were lowered the most.

During the beginning of the forest scene in Transformers 2 where Optimus and Megatron start to go at it, there is a part where both robots throw each other to the floor while Sam is looking on. When the camera looks to Sam, you can hear EVERY intricate detail (movement, ambient, etc.), some of it with really nice impact, coming from exactly where it should be coming from according to your point of view dictated by the movie.

Sorry if I missed it earlier in the thread, but how much power are you feeding each of these? Can they be run off an AVR with ~100w or do they need standalone amplification.

I can not answer what Chucky is using but these designs should be extremely effecient ( > 96dB) therefore 100W would give you probably > 116dB @ 1m...this does not include room gain, multi speaker gain...so maybe add +6dB to it.

Im going to run my with a 75W/ch amp

I just re-read the beginning of the thread and he says that he is running them off of his Sony AVR which is ~120w a piece. My only concern is moving dual 15" woofers with 100w of AVR.

Nah... not a problem at all moving them. With that said, they could use more power. The LF portion (x2 15" per speaker) is rated at 500 rms if I'm correct.

I've just quickly looked over the thread and all I have to say is WOW!! I'm loving those speakers. I may have passed it, but did you have a price breakdown of the supplies/drivers/crossovers etc used? I saw you had links to a couple things but didn't really see what the project cost as a whole. Thanks.

Thanks Brandon. I'll say this and I think that MKtheater can back me up... the're dangerous since it's really easy to get lost on how they sound and expose yourself to very high levels for extended periods. They really sound good.

Guys, the cost of each front main was approx $550 each (give or take $50). The rears were $150 less. The project total including construction was approx $3300. I have the total written down somewhere but cannot find at the moment.

The waveguides, xovers, and terminal plates are only available through QSC. The drivers are readily available all over the net by whomever sells Celestion drivers.

I really do love those column surrounds. Every time I look at them I keep thinking I could redo my HT room. Im already considering a 2010 HT remodelling project because I compromised on my HT build originally and now I want the DTS-10 and I could also redo my surround speakers to be just like these.

There is a black fabric grill that's going to cover the front of the columns. The frame for the grill is kinda wide which would have hit the outer edges of the waveguide and the woofer. Setting them back an inch resolves that issue.

Also, the grill itself will have a recessed look once finished.

Thanks... and I say yes!! The speakers that were in the rear before were JBL E50's, also a 3 way design. It's something that I have gotten used to.
