Equilibrium on Blu-ray

Can't find any discussion on Equilibrium on Blu-ray. Supposedly this Japanese BD is a new encode and better than the HD-DVD (and of course the 1.78 UK botch).

Do you have this? I know it's being released in Canada soon according to the Canadian releases thread, but I haven't seen it yet (forget when it says it's coming out, I thought some time in September).

Yes, though not in disc form. Hopefully the Canadian release is the same higher bitrate transfer and lossless audio.

The Jap HD-DVD was OAR, lower bitrate AVC (19mbps?) and DD+.

Are there plans for a US version anytime?

Found some screenshots comparing the UK BD (1.78) to the JAP HD-DVD (2.35 OAR) here: http://www.hundland.org/hd/e/e.htm#equilibrium

If anyone's interested, I can take screenshots of this JAP BD.

amazon.ca says sept. 1st

Now, given it's being distributed by alliance, we can expect no extras whatsover, maybe a good transfer (fingers crossed), and as usual, a DTS-MA track. It comes from Universal... So I think I'll probably end up buying it... I like that one.

I'm unsure on US release info. Amazon.ca shows that it's coming out on Sept 1, and they have a pretty decent price for pre-order of just under $18.

My local walmart sometimes gets the Alliance titles and sometimes doesn't; it's really fickle. I know I'll grab it if I see it at the store. I wonder what the cover will look like or if you'll have to make a nice swanky custom cover for it to get rid of the french!

Found another release, Poland, in the Blu-ray Imports thread:

http://www.bluedvd.pl/p/pl/pr012/equ...m+blu-ray.html

Don't know anything about the video transfer, but looks like it has English PCM 5.1

Well, that's the total disc bitrate- just the AVC video is 32.1mbps. Still a fantastic bitrate and a big upgrade from the 19mbps AVC on the JAP HD-DVD (previously the best copy of this film).

Thanks for the specs LilGator.

Thank you!

If it's bilingual, I can assure you I'll be making a cover for it very, very soon. I've been more than slackly with covers lately, but I've been busy both with work and personal matters... Anyway, I'm back in the custom world and I'll post some new stuff in a few days.

As this is a Sony Japan release I think it'll be great as Sony's releases more often than not are really good, without excessive DNR, EE and non-filtering of film grain. Here's hoping.

The UK release was done by Momentum Studio.

I would really like to see how the JP HD DVD and JP BD compare on video. Figures, I buy the HD DVD and the BD comes out right after.
The HDDVD has lots of EE ,unfortunately, and appears to have been filtered. I,hope the BD is better.

I've heard Miramax has hired a top team to take care of the Blu-ray, they're from Paramount and these guys are called the "flying arrows". They couldn't get the real pros though, the "invisible spears"

Those unfamiliar with the Gladiator thread will be very confused by your witty post.

Not only would I appreciate that, I'd also love if you could translate for me what all of the bonus features are and would they all be playable in a U.S. Playstation 3?

Japan has the same BluRay region as us, and even if they included some of the bonus features in their SD format (extremely unlikely any of them will be though) it would be NTSC anyway (they never used PAL,) and if they happened to be in 1080i it would be 1080i60 - so they'd all be playable in any scenario.

No problem. I'll grab some screencaps tonight.

Does anyone have some full 1080 HD-DVD png's we can compare with? If someone has the actual disc and can take new ones, that would work too. Just PM me the timecodes and I'll match frames so we can compare.

Gotta cost a zillion bucks with the dollar being so pathetic right now.

¥3,336 = $35.69 right now, but I don't know what shipping costs to the US.
Wow, that means it's not too expensive over there, so that's good for us.

I have the HD-DVD and like it, but it isn't exactly superb.

I'm not expecting superb from the Canadian Alliance release but at least it won't be expensive. I think they also come barebones w/o any special features.
There's a lot of people anxiously waiting on the aspect ratio of the Canadian release...to me, if it's OAR, it's a bigger release than both Gladiator and Braveheart.
