They did have it...but just for a preview, not full testing/review. Maybe a sales rep brought it by during a visit, but could not leave it for review (they mentioned there was only 1 HC3800 in the US at the time). As they said, they fired it up against the HD20 and said the HC3800 obviously out performed it, called it 'smoking hot'.

As for 3300 on/off being disappointing? Actually that's pretty darn good if it's native on/off. Many DC3 projectors had about that, native. Remember, we're talking native on/off, not dynamic. But again, it's Mits. specs, not independently tested.

Yeah, now that you mention it that is pretty good for native. It's easy to get caught up in the super exaggerated dynamic iris on/off numbers.

Yep, I can make my Optoma H31 do a billion to one on/off, for only one scene...

...then I have to wait a good 30 minutes before I fire the projector up again

projector reviews.com just did a first look on the HD20 and it is rather disappointing regarding contrast. Actually, I think Art was trying to be kind, but basically this projector has the worst contrast of any 1080 projector he's seen. Whatta expect for $999?

So Optoma's figure of 4000:1 contrast is, of course, a bunch of baloney. I'll take a wild guess and say it would probably measure Way below 3000, probably in the low 2000's if it's lucky, under 2000 if it's not lucky.

So, it's unfortunately not sayin' much that according to Projector Central, the HC3800 blows the HD20 away in that regard.

Since there are many here 'hoping', I'll throw in my 'hope'. I hope the HC3800 performs better than the HC3000, and at least up to the mysterious (for the US) HC3100, in contrast and other important areas. If it did that, then it would probably put it close to, or slightly above the Benq W5000 performance wise, for a street price close to $1,000 maybe (a few months after release perhaps).

Ran to BB/Magnolia today to pick up Braveheart BRD and a new Camera. I asked them about the 6800 and they said they'd be getting stock on the 20th. They also said that MSRP is $2,499.

I can tell you that on the whole the Benq W5000 is a fair bit better contrast wise than the HC3000. I had the HC3000 for a year, and upgraded to the W5000. Yes, the DI on the W5000 is visible some times, but most of the time it rocks. Many scenes that had cloudy gray blacks on the HC3000 are much cleaner on the W5000. Never got to try the DC3 HC3100. Hopefully the HC6800 will exceed the HC3000. It will be a great unit at that price if it does.

How bright was the W5000 compared to the HC3000, How much quieter was the W5000 I heard it was very quiet. I want quietness but not at the expense of brightness.

The W5000 is much quieter than the HC3000. Brightness is harder for me to answer. I prefer to get the black level as low as possible, so I run the W5000 on low lamp, with the manual iris on full closed. Still plenty bright for me on a 108" wide screen in a full light control room.

They won't be selling any at that price at BB or even close to that price.If it is not below 1.5k then it will sit like the Viewsonis sat.Also BB told me they would never carry FP 's anymore that did not have lens shift.They had so many problems with people bringing the Old mit h3000 back due to not being able to get it to work in their rooms.Weird.

FP's are certainly not for the average joe, which is the BB customer base. Even with lenshift, BB are still gonna have problems selling FP's...

We're referring to the 6800 which is the replacement for the HC6500, so the price is in line. The HC6500 lists at $3500.

It's actually Magnolia, not Best Buy, but the Magnolia is in Best Buy.

Looks like Mitsubishi is going to show off the New Star trek Movie at IFA.

Weve got the sub 1k market heating up for the DLP's..

Now we got the 2700k-3700 k market for the DLP.SO far ones annoucned coming this fall under 4k. Please add if I miss any its getting hard to keep track off.

Infocus SP8602
Benq W6000
Mitsubishi HC6800

How would you rank them strictly looking at the Specs.

However the Mitsubish HC6800 is not DLP. its LCD. THE HC3800 is DLP.

According to Projectorcentral.com, it throws a 100" diagonal from 10 to 15 feet. Hope that helps.

I did find these comments listed under "Observations" to be of particular interest:

"Contrast. Preliminary manufacturer's specification claims a 4000:1 full on/off contrast ratio. However, actual ANSI contrast exceeds 600:1. In practical terms, during side by side viewing, the HC3800 visibly surpasses the contrast, black level, and color saturation of both the Samsung A600 and the Optoma HD20."

Looking forward to a comprehensive review of the HC3800.

Disappointing? Maybe yes, maybe not? I think, more convenient is using one HDMI cable to connect projector, and HDMI switch (or AV Receiver) for multiple sources... Connection with PJ has usually some length...

Yeah, I'm always a little puzzled when reviews harp on a projector for only having one HDMI, don't most let their receiver do the switching and run one cable to the projector?

Back to the Projector Central review, nice to see that it has a short throw, but the offset is a little big, not so huge as the X10 but may cause some people placement issues...
