Having used it for 2 hours I can say that it looks simply phantastic, even at default settings directly out of the box with BC off and lamp on low. Very bright on my 135" 1.1 gain Elite screen, even though the room is not completely light controlled (one window behind the screen, two on the side, all blinds closed but still some light leaking in). Looking forward to testing it tonight in the dark.
Right now I can already say that it is noticeably brighter than the HD20 but with better blacks. However, it seems that it is impossible to get both the center and the corners of the image to focus at the same time (I have only tried wide angle yet). The HD20 I tried in September did not have that problem. Some RBE is visible when you look for it (i.e., when you are very close to the screen and rapidly move your eyes around during dark scenes with bright spots), but it doesn't look like it would cause any problems during normal movie watching, and I think it's less pronounced than on the HD20 (even though I have no explanation for the difference. Both projectors are refreshing the image at 48Hz for 1080p/24 input).
Now here's the BAD NEWS:
I turned it on for the first time, and after running for about 3 minutes, it shut itself down!
It turned the lamp off and continued to run the fans for ~90 seconds, then went to standby. At first I tought it might be a IR remote code conlict because about 2 seconds earlier I had used the pause button on my Oppo BDP-83's remote. After waiting a while I restarted the Mits, and after ~1 hour, right in the middle of Blade Runner (which looks spectacular, btw), it shut down again, this time without any remote activity!!!

Next thing I will try is reseat the lamp, and connect the Mits directly to the Oppo, but I doubt that will help. Any ideas?

Unfortunately between the focus issue and the shutting off it seems like you just got a bum unit. I'd call Provantage and arrange for a replacement.

Provantage say they're out of stock at least until Dec 15th. If I return within 30 days, they will pay for return shipping and give a full refund with no restocking fee.
