Yeah, as mentioned the one thing I had to do was adjust it due to the closeness of the Sony's mount holes. I had to slide the small "L" shaped pieces that attach the mount's arms up so that the arms weren't against the projector as much, and I could get to the screws to insert them. You'll see what I mean when you get it. I've mounted 5 projectors with it so I got to know it fairly well, and the Sony was the only one with any challenge. (I think they want to sell more of their $800 mounts. )

jrlnc, congrats on your purchase. Sounds like you did some good research and used previous experience. I never had an LCOS RPTV (though I had looked at them in the store), but what swayed me was getting to demo an older VW60 SXRD model. Knowing that the HW15 was supposed to be brighter and have better blacks made it pretty easy. I've got nearly 400 hours on mine in under 3 months now - I have NEVER put that kind of mileage on a projector before, so that says something! Even with the Optoma HD80 I had which was very minimal on rainbows, a fatigue would set in that doesn't happen to me with the LCOS technology.

Most of the heat vents out of the left side viewing from the front (a little to the side). As long as you have enough space to let the heat dissipate I think you would be OK. Having walls/shelves on the other sides should be fine as long as there is still access to fresh air.

@Paul - I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who has maybe "overdone it" with the new toy.

I have ~150 hours on it now.

Actually my friend said the bulbs will break in after a hundred hours or so and the picture will improve. Does anyone know if the SXRD bulb also behaves this way and has a break-in time?

All this talk is getting me excited about mine coming in! What calibration disc have you all used on your HW15? DVE? Spears&Munsil? Others?
I have both the DVE and Spears & Munsil discs.

I've used them on my plasma, but I'm afraid to change anything on my projector. I'm waiting for my friend to come over to see it so he can adjust it.

I too, am wondering which disc is better for calibrating a projector.

I guess now that I'm legit I'd like to share my modest little setup.

My projector is wall-mounted at about 5 ft high using a peerless ceiling/wall mount. It has good clearance all the way around so I think the ventilation will be good.

The screen is wall-mounted too and sticks out about 10" from the wall so that it clears my wall-mounted plasma.

I have a question what is the length of the power cord? I was looking at the online manual and could not find this information. I will have a ceiling mount and about 10 feet to the nearest outlet. My room is 21' L and I will be projecting to a 120"D screen. According to the manual I should mount about 12.75' from the screen. I don't think a wall mount at the back of the room will work for optimal picture quality. Trying to take care of the little things be the the projector get here. Thanks

Nice looking setup! Are you running a 6.1 setup? Where did you pick up the shorter power cord?

Yes, my speaker setup is 6.1.

I got the 1 ft power cord from Monoprice.

And to CSMike, the stock power cord is 6 ft. Monoprice has many other lengths that will work too. I believe they have 10ft, 15ft, 25ft etc.
The 1ft that I got works perfectly.

It seems a lot of light enter thru the Bay window above the screen. So can you watch your projector in daylight ?

That is not a window. It is artificial lighting in that alcove. I just turned it on for the pictures.

And yes, I can watch it during the day if I use the blackout shades.

Good for you n a nice setup.

Hey, what's up with the Street Price increase?

Crutchfield had a pretty decent price recently..went up a couple hundred bucks just last week.

Anyone know?
yeah, you can get the JVC RS15/550 for just 1K more...makes it an easier choice.
Someone posted speculation a few weeks ago that a price bump would happen, I think based on seeing employee pricing go up. Looking at it on Crutchfield now - I think they previously had it on sale, and now it's not. The current price is just straight MSRP, which is what Crutchfield normally sells for. So unless other sellers show an actual bump to MSRP I don't think it's an increase in price.
I know Crutchfield was out of stock until the beginning of this past week and then got in 40 more units... Probably raised price back up to MSRP because of the demand level.

Anyone have any idea how long it'll take my local dealer to get this in for me? I'll probably call this afternoon to see about any updates, getting impatient!

Ceiling mounted the proj and mounted my screen yesterday. Watched Toy Story and Star Trek(2009) on Blu Ray.

...gobsmacked...

I can't believe I can have this big and juicy an image in a theater in my home. Honestly, I saw Star Trek twice in theaters, and I am picky when it comes to image quality. Trek last night rivaled what I saw in a theater.

Funny, my li'l girl, about to turn three, watched Toy Story. Later when it was time for bed, she wouldn't watch her 'before bedtime' Dora on the regular 40" TV, and demanded to watch it on the big tv! Emphatically!
For a while Best Buy also had it on sale, but it was limited to a short time (a week or two). Now it's back up to MSRP there also.

Here's an idea you might try (which I did) - If you're a RewardZone member, you'll periodically get those 10% and 12% off coupons in the mail. You can use those in a Magnolia location to buy it. They will honor the coupon there too.

I got it for 12% off, got $50 in RZ coupons and interest free for 3 yrs.

(Really though, I don't recommend doing anything on credit, even interest free.)

FWIW, I ended buying mine on ebay for under $2k shipped. It was actually drop shipped from Sonystyle.
I am soooo glad I purchased mine last week! I got it for $2800.00 at Futureshop in Canada, and it now lists there for $3499.00!

Edward98,
Who was the seller? I just checked ebay and see some for 400.00 more... not sure if these are legit or not, but the seller reviews look good. Thanks.
Since just about EVERYWHERE is listing these at full MSRP ($2,999) right now, I have to think that:

- MSRP actually increased and we just don't see news about it anywhere

- Sony is forcing retailers to do MAP - which in this case is equal to MSRP

I find it very bizarre that there are more than a few retailers who ALL had a couple hundred $$ price increase over the past week.

Something else is up, IMHO.

Anyone know for sure? Saw a rumor on another forum that Sony DID increase the price on these (that'd be suicide, with the RS15 $1K more and the 8500UB/Panny $1K less).

I'd buy this for a few hundred off MSRP. But in this economy, and with very good options running a grand less Street, don't think so!

Typical Sony. Over-priced for what you get. And arrogant about their pricing, too.

I have gotten some good deals on electronics from eBay, but you do have to consider:
  • Is it gray market with no Sony warranty?
  • If something is wrong, can it be returned within 30-45 days prepaid shipping?
  • Could it get banged up in shipment by UPS/Fedex?

I didn't want to take those chances with this projector from eBay.

If you did get it at that price and none of the above affected your purchase, good for you.

Like I said, I've gotten some good deals on eBay, but I also had a bad experience with a Pioneer car NAV unit. Luckily the seller allowed me to exchange it.

It looks like the price has also gone up on eBay.

I couldn't agree more with your points. This projector is the most expensive thing that I've ever bought off of ebay. Given the savings, though, I figured I'd give it a shot. It was definitely a risk that I was personally willing to take with the backing of AMEX. However, it's certainly not for everyone. In the end, I'm really glad that it ended up being shipped via Sonystyle directly and that I could register my warranty without any problems.

Cheif Mounts RPAU. I spoke on the phone to someone there and they recommended that model. Bit finickity figuring it out, but it's up and working fine. Took maybe two hours to get it mounted nice and level, and that included a run to Lowes for lag bolts.

After reading a lot of posts on this forum, I went with the Chief RPAU. It's a universal that works as well with my Sony as it did with my Optoma. I know it will work with any other projector I decide to upgrade to in the future. It's also really nice that when I had to deal with Sony's limited lens shift, I only had to spend another 6 bucks to get a longer pipe cut and threaded.

I fail to see how a $2999 1080P LCOS front projector can be considered over priced for what you get. I am having issues with my Epson 6500UB, colored haze on top and bottom of the screen, and after getting the replacement projector I wish it had Sony's panel alignment feature. Sure the convergance is probably within spec, but it sure isn't as good as I could get with the adjustable Sony. I should of spent the extra couple hundred dollars and bought the Sony HW10 back in Dec08.
