Not sure what's going on here...
Recently acquired several ac3 5.1 files from internet downloads (satellite broadcasts). No matter how I try to burn a disc, all I'm getting for playback is 2 channel stereo.
Initially, I tried simply burning the files in Toast. Although it reports the files as 5.1 Dolby Digital, burning as an audio CD or DVD, no luck. I then imported the files into DVD Studio Pro - again confirming they are ac3 5.1 - and burned a disc thru this app without success - only 2 channel.
What's curious is that both my dvd player and receiver display that the burned disc does contain 5.1 channels (front panel info). To make sure something in my setup wasn't amiss, I checked playback of my system with some commercial 5.1 audio-only DVD's and they play back fine.
Is it possible that a file can be tagged as ac3 5.1, but only contain audio on 2 of the channels? I realize dolby digital can be anything from multichannel to mono, but the number of channels contained in the file info would normally reflect this.
Any help would be appreciated = Thanks!
