PS3 "Slim" and Dolby Digital

I'm new to the PS3 family (24 hours!). I have the PS3 connected to my HDTV via HDMI. I'm using an optical cable for the sound to a 5.1 surround set-up. The PS3 puts out Dolby Digital audio on everything except Blu-ray where I get a Pro-Logic audio signal only. I've tried changing the audio output settings on the PS3 and no luck. Guidance greatly appreciated for this novice. Thanks!!

Hi There to get the right sound from the PS3 you have to set the PS3 to out put LPCM Through >HDMI or if your Receiver does the New HD formats then set your New Slim PS3 to Bitstream so you get the light on your AVR, but from the sound of your setup it sound like you do not have HDMI on your Receiver or you don't have HDMI on your Receiver you will not get the right sound from your PS3 because no Analog out for 5.1 or 7.1.

You can not pass the New Sound formats through Optical what so ever I know you are not asking me about that but you should be able to get Dolby or DTS through Optical, so have a look for a bitstream option on your PS3.
