help on a 2way DIY outdoor set (pic)

I'm looking for a little direction on doing a cheap diy set for my covered porch. Its screened and covered but still 'open to the elements.' Theyll be powered by a Yamaha htr-5890 (140x7) and probably brought indoors in the winters so they may not have to be designed to survive rain, snow, etc. It doesn't necessarily have to be a DIY or even 2way, but i am trying to stay on the cheap side (preferably under 200$ for a pair).

The speakers are going to be sitting about 7 feet high, so theyll be over the listener's head, probably pointed downwards
this is what im planning;

would it be a mistake to buy something simple like the 'recession buster kit' from madisound?

I don't think buying the recession busters would ever be a mistake . They are an amazing deal for the price and I would definitely buy some if I wasn't in Canada, and I didn't own bookshelves.

I don't know if the recession busters are all-weather friendly.

I bought some JBL s36awii's (around 115/pr shipped) and N26aw's (around 60/pr shipped w/o bracket). I like the sound of the s36's, but they hang flat on a wall. The N26's have a nice mounting bracket so you can aim them, but their sound quality isn't as nice as the s36's. I now have no plans on using the N26's.

For DIY, I don't see dome tweeters being listed as weather resistant. Maybe they all are or maybe only some are, depending on their design?
For woofers, anything with a plastic, aluminum or other waterproof material, along with rubber surround and ideally an Al cast basket should be pretty weather resistant.
Your enclosure and grille is an important part. It needs to be waterproof and be able to protect the speakers from weather as much as possible.

please keep in mind outdoor speakers need to be much louder and bigger than indoor ones because almost all of the output will disappear into space.

i would go with something like this:

http://www.jblpro.com/catalog/Genera...?PId=264&MId=3

1) Too expensive by around $1k/pr
2) Not environmentally friendly.

If going that route, the JBL Control 30 would be a better idea.

Have you considered automotive speakers? Weather resistance would be there and the price is right. It wouldn't be the best sounding setup but probably ok for porch use.

I'll check with my parents to see if they want to use them. I bought them to use at the pool along with the S36's, but we'll likely go with some larger speakers and use the S36's on the porch.

I'm starting to sell off unused stereo equipment starting with my Monitor Audio RS1's. Maybe these will be next?

Well that's quite a bit more covered than I originally pictured. I'd still want to use a weather resistant speaker. But being that it's out of the weather for the most part, it'll help prolong the life of them.

Perfect solution. Slap a couple coaxes into an enclosure and you're done. They even come with grills. There are plenty of great sounding coaxial speakers out there, they're weather and temperature resistant, and most of them utilize a high-q woofer, which when stuffed into a reasonable sized enclosure, will boost the upper bass output to help them sound "fuller". In an outdoor situation, you can't expect any real low bass output unless you start piling up the bass bins, so that high Q bump in the lower midbass region will help them sound better.
