Need advice for first LCD purchase (37 inch)

Hi, thanks in advance to anyone who can provide some sage advice regarding choosing an LCD tv. I'm a student whose had a tube tv (purchased in 1999) die on him as of a week ago. I've got about 750 bucks to spend. I want the best bang for my buck, but I'd also like to buy something of proven quality. I've done quite a bit of research and read quite a bit of reviews on the sets that I've narrowed down to but I was hoping that experienced AV'ers could provide me with their two cents.

The setup: I've got a rather large room with a viewing distance of about 8-9 feet. The issue I'm having is the tv size can be a max of 37" as it will be sitting inside a recessed space that has a max width of about 38". 40" tv's are sitting at about 39" wide, so I'm limited to 37" tv's.

From my understanding, the whole 1080 vs 720 issue may not play that much of a factor with respect to the distance from the tv, but may, however affect processing signals etc.

I won't be playing blurays, HD cable/sat or hddvds. I do have an xbox 360.

Here's what I've narrowed down to:
Panasonic TC-L37X1

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-LbPjjBt...37X1.html?c=16

Panasonic TC-L37S1
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_133L37S...C-L37S1&tp=161

Samsung LN37B530
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_30537B5...30.html?tp=161

and finally a Vizio I saw at Costco: Vizio VL37OM for $655 (including tax)
http://www.vizio.com/index.php/flat-...vs/vl370m.html

I don't know what my setup will be like in 2-4 years so I'd say I'd like to stick with 1080 because my viewing distance may change in the future.

I'm worried that the samsung may be nice, but I'm paying for the name more than the quality of this particular midrange model.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I picked up the Samsung and am totally happy with it. I play games more than I watch TV or movies, and it is a great set.

By the way, BB has the 32" on sale right now for $569.

The best selling TV in your price range is the Panasonic VIERA S1 Series TC-L37S1 37-Inch 1080p LCD. It is an excellent TV and I think you would be very happy with it. I would also give serious consideration to the Samsung LN37B550. If you don't mind buying on-line, you can find these TVs at a very attractive price.

For what it's worth, I don't care much for Vizio although some others think they are great. However, before you buy anything I always recommend that you compare panels in the stores to see what your eyes think are the best. Good luck in your decision.

Samsung LN37B530 would be the best buy from your list. Like other poster said, order online without tax and cheaper and even free shipping http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-LN37B530-37-Inch-1080p-HDTV/dp/B001U3Y8NQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1252079420&sr=1-1

Thanks for all the advice; I found a website that reviewed this exact vizio with the viera among others...and it was the lower end, but I was able to pick one up at costco for $580. So far so good, but the Viera's have dropped in price pretty substantially...I bought from costco due to the warranty...When I get some time, I'll review the viera in store somewhere and see what I see...
