Question about my Pioneer Elite VSX-21TXH

Hello,

I just bought my Pioneer Elite receiver along with the following speakers (5.1 Setup):

ProCinema: 1000
- Center Channel
- Front Left & Right speakers

ProCinema: 800
- ProSub 800
- Back Left and Right 800's

When I watch a blu-ray I need to crank my receiver up to about -19/16 db for a real good sound. I'm a bit concerned since the receiver goes from -80db down to 0...seems like I'm almost maxing it out to get good sound. Is this normal?

Volume control is one of the most talked about subjects about all Receivers with most people feeling psychologically uncomfortable when approaching the 0 level.

Put simply the Volume Level is of no importance. In other words -19db on your Receiver will not be the same as -19db on a Denon or Yamaha. In fact -19db will be different on different power rated Pioneers.

When a Receiver is pulled out of the box "0" isn't the Reference level, nor is it a fixed level arbitrarily put in by the Manufacturer.

Then you connect your speakers which all have different sensitivity. now the original volume becomes meaningless.

Next you start calibrating your Receiver for your Speakers and your Room. Now you are listening to a Movie and your Master Volume is set at -19db. That's the level you are comfortable at for your speakers and your room.

Change the room and the -19db level will alter. A change of 4db should double the volume.

Thanks for the response...that makes sense..I'm still new to all of this.
