  • Color coated recording icons

Any reviews or opinions?

works even better now the app on the iphone and android works as well. now that remote record works that ends that issue i have a few suggestion will sugest later nothing to big such as if you have say 6 records of the same show you can pay all 6 shows just like the moto boxes slow motion or frame by frame or deleat shows like the moto dvr deleat say all watched and not unwatched shows but thats for anther day but the updates are running well so far love the updates how about some onscreen games news or weather? just and idea

Anyone using the Cox Remote Guide Access app on the iPhone (for Motorola DVR, I do not have WH-DVR)? Mine has just been saying "Service is not available at this time. Please try again later." for a couple days - or I just noticed it. What's going on?

The new guide on the DVR box.

PROS:
• The guide appears larger, easier to see.
• The guide itself responds quicker to access
• Box boots quicker from power up.
• Volume no longer comes up at 85% when rebooted

CONS:
• The DVR section is acting much slower. Lag on DVR functions, play, pause, recalling a show.
• The HDMI output is screwy. I have to soft-reset the box to get the HDMI output to come on sometimes. (This did not happen before upgrade)
• NO NOTIFICATION OF INTERRUPTION OF SERVICE!! This is where EVERY SINGLE CABLE operator FAILS, tremendously. Going to do the upgrade, cause a massive disruption of cable service for 2 hours... SEND A EMAIL TO YOUR CUSTOMERS, ALERTING THEM OF THE OUTAGE. It would've saved me a 15 minute phone call. (Same applies to planned internet outages. The technology to "alert" customers is fairly simple. Have MTC or the customer ops center send out the alert ahead of time.)

Minor fix needed.
When you press "DVR List" and get the list of recorded shows, the option to go to your scheduled recordings, etc, the graphic for the button just says "list". It should say "DVR List". This will cause some confusion.
(I have to admit, initially I was confused, until I figured out, it meant DVR list button, after not finding a list button on the remote)

I noticed there is now a % full indicator at the top of the screen when you go to your DVR listings. I cannot believe this was not there before.

Major CON, there are now ADS at the bottom of the screen! At least they do not take away any space for listings(when Comcast inserted ads they reduced the number of rows for channels from 5 to 4).

OK This is real bad. I know people who work at Cox read this board (RIGuy29, BrianCox, etc...). Since the upgrade, I have to power cycle my cable box to get the HDMI port to work correctly when I turn my Monitor on. The set upstairs which uses the component output doesn't have the same issue. As I said, it was working perfectly fine prior to the upgrade.

Compatible with what? An SA/Cisco DVR? The answer is Yes and NO. That WD MY DVR Expander has a bad reputation of powering down and losing connection with the SA/Cisco DVR. Thus requiring a reboot of the DVR to get it to work again.

Get a Non-Green HDD without Power Saving features, (WD Caviar Black is a good choice) and then get an eSATA enclosure or see my signature for a DIY Bare HDD connection.

I have yet to see someone successfully add an eSATA HDD to the Cisco Trio WHDVR and still have playback capabilities to the Client STBs. Perhaps the recent SW update has fixed this but I have not seen a posting of success.

Anytime a change is made on Cox's end, there is a requirement to notify customers 30 days in advance. Those notifications are typically in the form of bill messages, emails, or legal notices in local print (ProJo for instance).

For instance with Rhapsody, a notice was sent out via email on Aug 29th:

Quote:

Dear Valued Customer:

Effective September 29, 2011, Cox will no longer be offering the Rhapsody music service. All existing Cox Rhapsody customers can continue to receive music services directly from Rhapsody. If you subscribe to any Rhapsody plan with a monthly service charge, you must update your billing information directly with Rhapsody

You may want to make sure you have all notification setting up to date in your Cox.com profile to ensure you receive all contact information.

Thanks to the two COX guys here who totally glossed over this, twice.

Bravo guys. Thanks for the great service.

Sorry for not responding, I am not very familiar with Motorola equipment, SA/Cisco equipment is more my specialty. I also am not a Cox employee.

Sounds like your box is hosed or there is something else going on. I haven't seen what you are experiencing on either of the 2 boxes that I have at home. Just as a n FYI I know you are upset, but this isn't an official Cox help forum. The people that do work at Cox and post here do it on their free time. Give them a break as they have personal lives, work, ect that take priority over this forum. How about mailing cox or calling them? If they ignored you then I would see a point in trying to "bash" them.

No one is bashing anyone. The "thanks for the great service" comment was directed towards the company as a whole. Not towards any individual who posts on this forum. And my comment was to the fact I posted twice about the issue, and they replied to other people's statements AFTER my original two posts. So your statement about them not being on here is moot on that one. If I said anything to offend anyone, it wasn't directly intentional. Just venting frustration to the whole situation and the company in general.

To follow up with the original statement, the box's HDMI port is definatley hosed, and became so after this last update. I am hoping this is one of those items that is a "known bug with some boxes" that can be fixed with another software update (and soon too).

Might just be your boxes time. I have 2 different DVRs and neither had/have any issues after the update.

W1KNE,

Speaking for myself I don't have technical background or knowledge to address such a situation, as that is not my position. I can't speak for anyone else either as I do not know who works where. Your first choice should be to contact Cox directly to report any issues, especially after an update. Posting issues (or subsequent complaints) on a public forum that is not officially occupied by Cox is not going to get your concerns addressed as quickly as you'd like. Sorry, wish I could help further.

Also to add, Ph8te's quote of "The people that do work at Cox and post here do it on their free time. Give them a break as they have personal lives, work, ect" applies for myself. I am not here as an official liaison or to give detailed information. I have been a lurker here for about 10 years, and just put in quick tidbits where I can.

Thank you for your response. As I stated before, though, I had posted prior to a response to another post others made here. It's no big deal. I am working with the head-end tomorrow to see if there is an issue with my box and possibly reload the firmware.

This is a known bug with the software, which both Comcast and Cox have reported, and are awaiting a fix. I guess it doesn't happen on all the boxes, and the level of severity depends on the box. Some boxes, the HDMI output goes completley south. Mine comes back, fortunatley. Got to love intermittant issues, the bane of my existance as a technician.\\

And again, if anyone is upset by my original comment, I do apologize. It was mostly out of frustration. I'm sure you've all been there.

Can WGBH 44 be picked up over a qam tuner? I have all the other pbs channels but this one

I have to say, the GIANT ad on the guide is very disappointing, more so because it makes the space for the guide itself significantly smaller.

Yes, but at least it doesn't take away space for listings When Comcast added ads to their guide a little while ago, it took up an entire space so you could only see listings for 4 channels instead of 5.

We have several DVR remotes at work, with the several boxes we have, they're all identical and they all say "DVR List" on the button. Shall I take a picture to prove my point?

After receiving a notice in the mail that Cox NE is beginning the move to SDV, I went and picked up a tuning adapter for the Ceton card the other day. I still haven't had a chance to hook it up yet, but I was just curious if anyone knows if these things support 4 tuners. The guy at the Solutions store had no clue and I'd rather sort out whether or not I'm going to need a second one before I go through all the hassle of setting up and dealing with error messages and such.

Thanks in advance!

Does Cox NE stand for New England? Are both Connecticut and RI deploying SDV?

All SDV Tuning Adapters are required by the FCC to supports at least 4 simultaneous streams.

The Motorola TA always did. (Cox New England should be using the Moto)
The Cisco TA got a firmware update the end of July, first of Aug that allowed it to support at least 4 streams.

Yes it does stand for Cox New England. Also, the letter I got does not specify; it just says "Cox will soon be migrating select channels...." The letter was sent from the RI office, but no clue if CT is also included. I guess I just assumed the whole region was going to be making the move.

Thanks for the info on the TA. Hopefully it will be headache-free!
