Not at all, unfortunately. Epson's policy is that, if you purchased the projector within 30 days of needing a replacement, they send out a new one. If it's past 30 days, it's always a refurbished unit (unless you put up a significant fuss).
I had a dust blob about 28 days after I purchased the projector. I called and the support was fantastic. They mailed me a replacement projector the same day. Unfortunately, the replacement I received was a refurb-- hairline scratches on both the case and the lens (!).
I called back and put up a fuss (not being a jerk, obviously). They told me they had the policy stated above, and that I should have received a new projector, considering it was less than 30 days. They gladly sent out a new replacement, in the original retail box. Very happy.
But, if it's past 30 days, the chances of receiving a new one drop off significantly.
