'Saturday Night Live' 2009-2010 on NBC HD - Page 2

We've still seen far more male buttocks that female boobies on prime-time TV. If that's a deluge, then please give me drought.

I remember I, Claudius. When it was first broadcast in America back in the late seventies, there were a good deal of cuts, particularly in the Caligula episodes. This was regular network PBS. A later re-broadcast was the same. Then in the late eighties there was a syndication hosted by Anne Bancroft which was what appeared to be the complete series, including nudity and the legendary scene with Caligula emerging with the bloody mouth (if you have to ask, you really don't need to know).

Then, bingo, a rerun in the early nineties, after the Contract with/on America. Not only was the series cut again, but there were numerous cuts of things that were permitted during its initial run in the seventies ("well, make sure she isn't a virgin when you kill her")!

There is not a steady progression towards sophistication (or permissiveness, if you prefer), particularly since we must pander towards our most conservative brethren.

I also vaguely remember a Masterpiece Theater (or similar show of that era) presentation on PBS of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" with Diana Rigg in the lead role that featured topless wood nymphs cavorting about. Pretty exciting for a wide-eyed pre-adolescent boy (who somehow managed to emerge psychologically undamaged from the sight; go figure). Ah, those were the days...

The opening Obama skit was shockingly bold for SNL.

Yeah! It's almost like they think it's a free country, or something!

I seem to remember even seeing full-frontal a couple of times on PBS way back when. Not the norm, for sure, but they seemed to be able to slip it in there (pun intended).

I think the "What up with that?" skit is one of the funniest in recent memory. Gerard Butler's ridiculous look and movements with the cane really topped it off.

I think the angry Obama turns into the Rock skit is destined to be one of the best new recurring skits to the show! It's doomed to go stale, but a brilliant premise and theme, imo. It's just funny to watch the actual transformation part, and all the stuff before and after is really pretty dry.

I think it's sad that they're padding the show with outtakes from previous seasons' dress rehearsals which are funnier than the new material in the rest of the show.

lol ya man, right after that skit, i had to rewatch it on the pvr, too funny! one of the best all season so far

hopefully, this can be kenan thompson's growth to the next level

Overall kinda weak episode, but as others mentioned the What Up With That bit was hilarious. I loved all the extra people in the studio. Jenny Slate looked great dancing, which is never a bad thing. Shakira's rump shaking wasn't bad either, even if her voice is grating and limp.

Agreed on the skit, although I laughed more at uhm....the guy in the red jumpsuit dancing (man, I can't remember his name)

I also thought the Beauty and the Beast skit was good, and thankfully short (before they beat the joke into the ground)

Jason Sudekis. He's great in most everything he does.

good show sat. nite.

liked the opening, the tiger woods thing, the news, and especially the potato]
chip skit.
The Tiger Woods skit was alright. I hated how long the opening bit went on. I just don't think that guy does a good Obama, and no matter how many times they do an Obama skit it never fails to bore me.

Rhianna with Shy Ronnie made me laugh, and the potato chip skit was just absurd beyond belief. I loved it.

I also thought the ladies bowling tourney sponsored by Vagisil was funny.

Just read the SNL Christmas Special will feature "Gilly" as the host. Obviously NBC and Lorne Michaels are paying the writer's 'piecework' rates, after all when the dialog consists of "Gilly...Gilly...Gilly" "What?" both parties are earning exactly what the product is worth.

NBC... we're in color !!!!

Gilly... ugh! My least favorite bit character.

The Vagisil bits are always comedy gold!

"Greg, what's the highest level of education you completed?"

"I'll never tell! My lips are sealed"

"Speaking of sealed lips...VAGISIL!"

The potato chip skit was one of the funniest I've seen in a long time. I still could have done without seeing him 'put back' the 35th chip. It was great though!

it was all pretty stupid except the Obama and Woods bits. I wonder how this show survives at times.

It always amazes me how the internet community will trash a show they watch every week. SNL does not hide the type of comedy they do. If you haven't figured that out yet, maybe you should reevaluate your viewing tastes.

Yes, SNL can bomb on some of their skits. That's why I put it on a DVR. For those that are not going my way, I hit the forward button. But some of them can be priceless. The Tiger Woods and Vagagil skits were great. Even the routine with Rhianna was good.

I can't imagine how difficult it must be trying to think of something funny to say based on the events of the past week. They do it reasonably well.

overall this season i think most of the shows have been solid. not as funny as last year, but just about every show this season has one or two skits that gets me laughing. some, like last week, are better than others. but i think they have a really solid cast, very vesatile. i also think seth meyers is doing a great job on weekend update. excellent writing.

i dvr and watch this show every week and just skip through the music and skits i don't like.

No matter how good or funny or talented some cast have been since 80 something the show should have ended after 8-10 years.

LOL! The ladies' bowling skit was hilarious!

Vagisil...for that surprise between your thighs

The earlier Tampax-sponsored one was really funny too!

I think they are showing it again Friday night.

Thought it was funny, except for everytime they switched over to a more recent sketch.

Then I was like, "What the he!!'s so funny about this?".
The SNL holiday special this yearwas awful, aside from the old sketches. That Gilly character is *beep* obnoxious and not funny. They spend so much time showing her crap that some of the older sketches were only shown clips. The Mary Katherine Gallagher one with Rosie and Penny Marshall as nuns was only partially shown towards the end. What a damn crime that Gilly bumps classic sketches.

And they showed Kristen Wigg's other obnoxious character in the dinner sketch with Dr. House.

I think she's funny in really small doses. To build an entire ep around her was pretty misguided imo. The character of hers that I miss was the Ahole couple.

I really like Kristen Wiig, but many of her characters are not funny to me anymore. In particular, her roles as Gilly and Sue have been overused for their own good. I never found her role as the deformed performer to be at all humorous.
