Dragon Age: Origins in depth hands on preview - Page 2

Even though its a nice game, I dont feel hooked to it like Oblivion. I'm playing it on PC now since the 360 version crashed.

I'm about 6 hours in, which means I'm essentially no where , and starting to feel the hook catch. Bioware didn't fix anything that wasn't broken from Baldur's Gate, improved on several features and developed an excellent universe to escape into. The writers at Bioware continue to prove they're the best.

I'm hooked. Human Noble warrior and I'm already (6 hours in) wondering what would be different as the other classes. Tempted to start them up just to see because I know that after 60-80 hours there is no way I'm starting over :P

Plus I gotta keep my dog. Love that gal!

anybody get pass the 1st boss yet...just can not get pass that pt. Tried as an elve and now human warrior and no luck.

I'm an Elf Mage and found a successful strategy on my fifth try. I sustained Flaming Weapons for my party and kept hitting it with Winter's Grasp. Try to keep it's attention with the tower guards and let Alistair beat on it. Winter's Grasp helped a lot as it made it susceptible to fire and stopped it from grabbing people and pounding them.

Yes what you guys said. That big ugly in the tower...unfortunetly my mage does dick except die.... But I will give my personal touch as the mage and see what happens. Thanks guys.

Just repeating myself...this is a tough game . Even at normal diff setting I am getting my @ss kicked...and loving every min of it . A SP game that may last more then a month (pissed at some cases games that only lasted a week, CoD5 or less, FEAR 2) for me, now thats worth the price of admission. The last games that did this for me were, Mass Effect (play thru the 360 ver 3.5 times and the PC ver about 10-12 times just to see who can/will have sex with who...), Fallout 3 (2 times) and Oblivion (only once, real long game if you decide to do the side quests) .

The game difficulty setting comes in handy. That 1st boss gives a reality check of what you really should have had in the party. Tried a lot of combos in my party but I dont have enough power.

What does 'dick' in this game is SLI.

Game is running great on the two systems I have it on. Both running Win7 64u.

System 1
E8400 @ 4.28 with 4GB mem and ATI 5870 at 1920x1080 everything max at 4AA. Sync'd 60fps

System 2
i7-920 @ 4.0 with 12GB mem and quad 295's at 1920x1200 same as above except with 8AA and no sync at well over 100fps. Can run at 2560x1600 with same settings but the curser is too small .

I have changed tactics countless times to see what works. My fav is to get a mage to heal the party when health is < 50. Mages stay back during battles with light armor so they are not targets but can give support to the team.

Hey Dave, I agree about the text changing size with res. I have to play at 1024x768 just to read the fonts......
like the game , but still can't figure out the tatics modes yet......... just let the computer control most party members and I control the main one, there needs to be a tatics for dummies in dragon age somewhere ! heheh

You can also set tactics to use ranged weapons for far away enemies and switch to melee when they are close.

Still the best is to use a mage to heal party members when health is <25%

my rig is amd phenomII x3 2.8 ghz 4gb ram and 9500gt. would i be able to run this with decent presentation or better of on the 360?

that's good to know..... I'm a goody-two-shoes-warrior right now.... definately have to replay this game after I finish..... still would like a patch/fix for the font size when going to higher res..........

My probm right now is the game is crashing on me when I get to one of the towns. Reloaded drivers and such but no help. The frame rates drops then it crashes. Real weird and I am still trying to fig it out.... I been there a few times before with no probms but on the current return trip its just crashing.

Really it doesn't matter what class you start with since you can control the other members of your party any time so if you got a good mix, then you can try all the classes. If you built a good company of others, you can pick or re-mix the party at certain pts in the game.

BUT...being good or evil then thats up to your playing style...

Hey Tinker, don't know what graphics card you have but Nvidia just came out with some new whql drivers....

well, I didn't know the ending was the same no matter what path you choose.....
I'm at the area where I have to choose between two dwarves wanting to be king, but seems like there isn't enough info for me to pick one over the other, yet......
