Standard Wireless Keyboard Without Number Pad?

Thread Starter
Folks,

I need help finding the perfect wireless keyboard. I don't need one with all
the fancy buttons or built-in mouse. I just want a standard key layout,
but without the numberpad or anything else that makes it too big in size to
be left on the coffee table or couch.

I don't want a laptop or mini style keyboard with keys in stupid places.
I want STANDARD key layout.

Any suggestions? I've looked and looked, but everything I've found is
too bulky.

Here is what I don't like. There is too much useless (to me) stuff on the left
& right sides that make this keyboard wider than (IMO) it needs to be. And
the wrist pad at the bottom should be removable, but it's not. So that is
more lost space on the couch. And the delete/home/end keys are in the wrong spots.

And here is what I would consider the perfect keyboard. Standard key
arrangement. Just lose the numberpad and some of the bulk at the top of
the keyboard and it's what I consider the perfect keyboard

Anyone know where I can find something like this?????

I've used a two of the Adesso's noted below and been pretty happy with them.

Adesso 2.4 GHZ WIRELESS SLIMTOUCH TOUCHPAD MINI KEYBOARD SILVER W/BLACK KEYS ( WKB-4000US )

Thanks for trying, but this does not meet the requirements of "space saver" at all.

Agree on the space saver conceptually.

However, for me the extra area provides a good base when I have it on my lap. Something shallower would be a little tough to type on. Also, I really like the touchpad for navigating, and it's tough to have the touchpad without that space.

Good luck.

This looks like what you want. It seems a bit pricey though, especially since it doesn't even come with a BT dongle.

Thanks, that is close, but it doesn't have a standard keyboard layout.

That is not a standard keyboard.

You aren't going to find what you're looking for then.

Anyone know of any DIY keyboard kits out there to make what I'm looking for?

I have an older version of the htpc one and it works pretty good.

Maybe this one will do? It is about the closest I have seen for a wireless standard keyboard.

Thanks, I already have that and it's not a standard keyboard layout.

Guys, keep the ideas coming!

This picture is of a standard keyboard layout.

I don't think what you want exists. Not in a wireless version anyways. You might have to just go with the best option (the closest you can get) out there and live with it.

We are getting closer to the perfect HTPC keyboard (IMO).
Just need to wait for a wireless version to come out. Or do the DIY wireless mod to it (google the mod).

That's a pretty expensive keyboard...can't imagine what a wireless one would cost if made.

I found a cheapo brand of this one

http://www.amazon.com/Slimtouch-Ergo...869425&sr=1-42

absolutely identical for $19.99

I've tried trackballs, track d-pads, and touch pads in different locations, but this is easily the best and easiest to use. I had similar feelings to you about layout and I must say after trying out the adesso version I wanted it badly. Good enough to use as a standard keyboard, and even good enough to forget about needing a mouse with it.

edit: Found it. Identical in feel to the adesso, but I looked around and found it for cheap.

Guys, there are a zillion non-number pad keyboards out there which use non-standard key layout. Please use another thread for those keyboards.

I swear, I've had to repeat it about ten times in this thread so far.

STANDARD KEYBOARD LAYOUT
ONLY PLEASE.

You buncha thread-skimmers

If that's the case, why don't you design and build one yourself? Because there isn't a commercial product that matches what you want at this time.

No good deed goes unpunished.... LOL.

The fact is, most wireless keyboards are butt-ugly, for some reason. I should know, I've been looking for a while. The Apple one is a rare exception, and for Mac users, it is STANDARD.

Bump...
My favorite wireless keyboard stopped working yesterday. It did not match my criteria on this thread, since I never found anything. But a year has passed and hopefully AVS forum has come across new products that might match what I consider to be the holy grail of home theater keyboards. IMO of course. Everyone has their own idea of what "perfect" is. biggrin.gif
