Multiroom equipment suggestions!

Hey All,

I'm doing some research to help my future father in law with his multiroom audio configuration in his new house. His house is currently in the building stages but all his wiring has been done already. He has 6 zones of speakers wired with cat5e ran for control panels in each zone. We were planning on setting up with a systems such as HTD's advanced controller/amplifier package. However he recently visited a local AV store that deals with some high end equipment and the sales people there introduced him to SONOS. Now he understands that he already has all his wiring done in the house, so the wireless system isn't very advantageous to him, but he REALLY likes the SONOS controller and how the system easily integrates with things like satellite XM and napster etc. My question is, is there a comparible traditional wired style system that has a wireless controller and control system similar to SONOS, and in your opinion, since he is already prewired, is SONOS's system worth it.

My opinion is to always go wired whenever possible, and I personally suggested against, but he seems to like it, so I'm trying to find the best solution for him with his given setup.

Sonos may well be the best system out there when it comes to just about anybody being able to understand how to use it.

I replaced another system with in-wall controls with the Sonus.

Since the previous system used a "home run" wiring scheme I kept this and just put all the Sonus players in the utility closet (along with all the other equipment already there). Each player was hardwired to the network.

The controllers, of course, are wireless. I installed a few of the Sonus "access points" to insure a good signal for the controllers.

The system consists of 12 zones (7 bedrooms, 5 public areas). Each zone has its own controller.

Everyone who has visited loves the system. Just a few minutes of explanation and they are up and running.

Sonos now has touch screen controller, or you can use an iTouch (maybe iPhone) or a PC, in addition to the original Sonos controller.

High recommended.
