Problems with Onkyo 6100 AGAIN!!

Everyone else on here seems to love the Onkyo 6100. Am I the only one that has trouble with the 667 receiver that comes in this system?
My receiver will not pass audio or video over HDMI when it is first turned on if it has been off for over 30 minutes.
To get audio or video I have to turn the unit on, look at a blank screen for a few minutes, turn the receiver off and on several times then I will finally get sound and a picture will show up on the TV.
The first time I had this problem, I sent it off. It came back worse than it was. Called Onkyo again, sent it to a different place. They replaced some part in the HDMI circuit. This fixed the problem for a few months. Now it is starting to occur again and will more than likely get worse until it quits working completely.
Just wondering if I am the only one that has trouble with the 667 receiver that comes with this system.

I seem to be having the same problem as you and it really is a pain.

didn't see your post here until I posted in the 6100 thread.

I was wondering if anyone else was experiencing this as well.

Only one other person has had this problem but I have had it several times?

not sure if this helps...

but my verizon fios hd cable box will not work on the hdmi inputs 3 and 4 for some reason, it will not pass audio or video at all. the receiver actually reads "no input" on the display.

the cable box can be hooked up to hdmi inputs 1 and 2 with no issues.

also, i can hook up my PS3 on any hdmi input with no issues.

the problem is ONLY with the cable box in hdmi inputs 3 and 4.

i reported this issue to onkyo and they offered to repair it under warranty if i bring it out to a service center (which was about 2 hrs away from me). it would cost alot to ship it there and back and i dont have to the time to drive it there and back (which means i have to take a day off from work) so i just ignored it since it still works on hdmi inputs 1 and 2 and i dont foresee any additional hdmi sources to be added in the near future.

i'm having the same issue. its really annoying.
now i'm going to try to figure out how to do a hard reset, see if that helps.

Good luck with that. It didn't help mine any the first time I had this problem. I didn't try it this time. The procedure is outlined in your manual. If it works let me know.

I've also tried the hard reset, but it didn't fix the problem.

Hopefully someone else has come up with a solution??

I have the same issue. I fear we may have a similar problem to this guy:

avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1141824 (sorry, not allowed to post URL's yet)

Sounds like he faced several months without his unit while fighting with Onkyo customer service.

I have to turn my unit on for 10-15 minutes before it will see any HDMI.
In addition it no longer sees my BD player at all. Ever. That is now hooked directly to the TV and I use its optical out to the receiver for sound.

I wonder if Onkyo uses the same HDMI component inside and got a bad batch (or just buy cheap and we suffer for it).

TV: SAMSUNG 50" 1080p Plasma TV - PN50A550
BD: Panasonic BD-35K
HTS: HTS-9100 (Receiver is HT-R960)

It really is a pain. I have to turn my receiver on 10 minutes before I plan on watching something, then cycle it on and off a few times and it will eventually start working. Onkyo Customer Service sets new standards in NOT helping. They are the worst I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. They even make me pay to ship the piece of crap off for them to fix. Then it only works for a few months. One time they sent it back to me and it was worse than when I sent it to them. Thinking of throwing it in the trash and buying something else.
I am really surprised more people on this site aren't having problems. I bought Onkyo because it was supposed to be a good receiver, never again.
Onkyo does make a good product but every manufacturer has a lemon once in a while. But its pretty well detailed that their customer service is a bit lacking.
I am in the same boat. I have a Samsung LCD, PS3 and 6100. The 667 is taking longer and longer to display video or start up movies (interestingly, when I put in a game, the PS3 shows up almost immediately). It is not very heartening to hear that Onkyo customer service sucks, because I think I am destined to have to deal with them...
I purchased the Onkyo HTS-6100 around July of '08. It was working fine until about 6 months ago, I noticed that when putting it on DVD, that is where my 360 is hooked up through HDMI, wasn't displaying on my TV. I was getting the, "no source through input" error. Well, being that it was only happening to my 360, I figured it was a MS issue. I moved about a month ago, and ever since I unpacked my receiver and hooked it up in my new place, I've noticed that its happening on almost all of my HDMI inputs. It's affecting my PS3, HTPC, 360 and Motorola HD\\DVR box. For the 360 to work, its hit or miss. For my HTPC to work, I have to do a hard reboot of the pc about 3 times, which is missing it up. I noticed that some HD channels do not work, like ABC HD. I get the no source error, but when I put a digital cable channel, it works. I am not sure if I am still covered on any warrenty, I doubt it, but I am very disappointed that I am having trouble with my Onkyo. Also, maybe 3 months into buying my system, my OSD display vanished. I reset it to factory settings to see if that would bring back my OSD, but that didn't work.
So I found out that I am covered under a two year manufacturers warranty. I will be taking it to the nearest service center next week, which is about 8 miles away.
I just received mine today and can't get any video output whatsoever. I'm so mad right now.
no problems with mine... i'm using pretty much all hdmi though, the manual seemed pretty detailed as to how to configure the video assignments..
I figured out the video assignments. I got the xbox to run through component to the receiver and component to the TV. It's just the HDMI that doesn't work. The onscreen menu wouldn't even come up for me when connected through HDMI.

I took it to a repair center this morning, it's going to take them 2 weeks before I get it back. One Call was really helpful and decided to extend my return period. They even will ship out a replacement receiver only, so I don't have to ship the entire package back.
there was a section in the manual about if your video over hdmi isn't working than do these steps to configure on the display on the receiver. i'm assuming those didnt help/work?

ALL it said was do a hard reset. big failure. i spoke to tech support and he advised that it was bad. The customer service at Onkyo is terrible.
finally called a tech center. found my receipt and i will be taking it in for repair. The center is on my way to work so i wont be going out of my way.

Got my Onkyo HTR667 receiver back today. Pretty quick turn around from Madison Engineering in East Rutherford, NJ. The owner is this quiet Japanese dude named Kaz, very nice guy. Man, was this place stocked with high end Onkyo and Integra equipment, I wanted to leave my tiny receiver and take home the TX-NR905...

So I dropped it off Tuesday the 13th, and was informed that it was ready for pick up on Friday the 16th. Pretty quick! So I picked it up today and was told that the HDMI card had to be replaced. The receipt says the following was changed:
"Part # 22242394R3
SII9134CTU
Q8401"

For a split second, I got super pissed when I noticed that the HDMI was not working. I turned it off, gave it 5 minutes, and tried again. Sure enough, it worked. I am still iffy about it though considering the brief scare. My warranty ends August 2010, so if anything, I'll just take it back.

Thanks for the info man. I turned mine in a week before you and still havent received it back from Normans electronics in Atlanta. I think Onkyo USA is based in NJ so that probably contributed to your quick turnaround. I'll post my repair info when I get it back, but I think we have the same issue.

No problem dude. By any chance, did you drop it off yourself to Norman's or ship it out?

So my Onkyo crapped out again after getting it back from the service center. I posted a video on youtube showcasing the HDMI switching issue..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mnHxThGxasQ

When I first connected my AVR yesterday, the inputs did not work for the first 30 seconds. I feared that the problem was still present. I power cycled the unit and then it started to work no problem. Today, 10/20/09, I powered on the unit with the input CBL\\SAT selected and was able to watch a SD channel. I changed it to HBOHD, again the error, "No input selected". UGH!!! I turned on my PS3(input VCR\\DVR), Xbox 360(AUX), and ONKYO DVD player(DVD) and none of them worked! Swapped back to CBL\\SAT, and got sound from my Cablebox, but no picture. I am extremely disappointed in this AVR because I read great things about Onkyo. Mind you, every one at AVSForums agreed that their AVR's ran hot, but that was it. More and more, I am seeing that others are having the same issue. Onkyo better get its act together...

Update, after 30 minutes of leaving the receiver on CBL\\SAT, I finally got an HD picture to work with sound..

I dropped it off myself. They got the HDMI board in this week, so hopefully I will get it back this week.

Can you believe it was broken out of the box, so I havent even had a chance to listen to it.

Onkyo has some serious quality issues. I've never purchased an electronic item that didn't work out of the box.
Sorry to hear that playaj. Out of the box, only problem I really had with it was that it didn't start to get loud until the volume reached 35-40. So far, my Onkyo has been my only headache when it comes to electronics.

I was hoping Onkyo would have a reliable fix for this by now. Evidently they don't.
I have sent mine in a couple times and it is messed up again. I have been putting up with it by turning the receiver, tv, and cable box on first thing in the morning. After about 20 to 30 minutes I power everything off, then back on and it works. We just leave everything on until we go to bed at night so we don't have to mess with it. Pain in the ass junk. May send it back to the service center after football season. They will have it for six weeks and if history is any indicator , it will just break again. May just set it out for the trash man and buy another brand.
Strange how much love Onkyo gets on this forum and very few want to talk about the poor quality componets they produce.

Has anyone received a new model as a replacement? I feel like I am heading the same road like kxlexus..

I hear you.... I think I'm just gonna give up on this model and replace it with a different brand. It's a shame though, I think for the money, this receiver has excellent sound quality.
I was thinking about buying a S6100 HTIB over the S6200 given the bigger speakers (which I thought would equate to better sound quality) and the video upconversion. Both are roughly the same price but I think perhaps the S6200, since it has a different model receiver, would not suffer from the same issues that plague the S6100.

What do you think? Am I better off trying to build my system for under $550 or so? I appreciate your input.

If I were you, my decision would not be between a 6100 or 6200 Onkyo. I would look for a different brand altogether. It really is a shame though. When this thing works, it works well. I really like the surround sound effect when watching action movies.
