Connect Notebook to Mitsubishi Medallion HD1080 WS-65411 RPTV

I'm trying to connect a laptop to this TV I have, it's a rear projection television. I've got a 13" Macbook Pro as well as a HP dv6000z pavilion notebook with nVidia graphics in both of them. The MBP has a GeForce 9400M integrated graphics processor & the HP has a GeFoce 6150 integrated processor. Both are kinda weak I guess. The MBP has a mini displayport for which I can get an adapter with HDMI, DVI or VGA output. The HP has an S-Video port [I think] as well as a regular VGA port.

Anyway, I bought a "12FT VGA to 3 RCA component video cable (HD15 - 3-RCA)" cable from monoprice.com & tried connecting the TV with the HP laptop but it did not appear to work. None of the resolutions my laptop could output were acceptable for the TV. The TV does not have a VGA, HDMI or DVI port.

The component input says 480i/480p/1080i intput but how do I output exactly one of those resolutions from either of the two laptops [if I pick up the required adapter for my MBP as well]? I'm only looking to watch videos I have on my laptop on the TV, nothing else really.

These cables do not output component (YPbPr) They output RGB which is a different signal. Your HP can only output svideo or VGA. Your TV can only accept component or svideo so you would be stuck with svideo from the HP. You macbook can only output VGAor DVI/HDMI so no joy there. It sounds like you need a new TV . Svideo might give you acceptable video media performance SD CRT quality, but the quality of the desktop will be poor. Dual display laptop/TV via svideo will allow you to watch movies etc on your RPTV.

You can get a cable that has RGBHV to VGA and hook it to the DTV input.

Where could I get one of these? And how much do they normally sell for?

I'm using my Xbox 360 on the DTV input at 1080i but I guess there shouldn't be a problem changing that to a component input and using 1080i right?
