Javatime's Theater*Bar*Game Room Build - Page 2

Thanks for compliments HT1,
I have Definitive Technology speakers all the way around (7.1), except for the 2 back surrounds in the ceiling which are Polks. In the Game room area, I have Polk in walls and the bar has 2 Polk in ceilings. I'm running the game and bar speakers through my old Pioneer 60 watt/ch Quadraphonic receiver which is that unit with the brushed aluminum front. It's just for music and has served me well since the mid 70s and still works great.

I took a different approach than most in here and wanted all the speakers hidden, but wanted all the AV gear in front and within view. But that's just me, weird...I know.

Thanks Steve,
I've enjoyed your great looking build and will be visiting shortly once I get around to pouring the etex. I'll get my bar pics up today.

Your space looks awesome, I especially like your screen wall with the shelving, I am already reconsidering my own plans for HT 1.0! I have been procrastinating finishing the basement and this recession doesn't help.

Thanks Fuzzy,

The Bar floor is ceramic tile and extends inside the bathroom which I'll finish sometime over the winter.

The wife gave me this "Major Award" bar lamp as an early Christmas present. Even though it's...."Fragileee" you know, I think it fits nicely at the bar.

I am also going to refinish this piece to use as a wine rack.

Very nice, well done! The lamp is a classic touch....too bad there is not a window nearby so your neighbors could see it too.

I was just flipping through some old photo albums last week and I came across a picture with this lamp I used to have in the background, back in the mid-90s. Somewhat similar idea, except it was a life size female torso, from neck down to just above the knees. In my defense, I didn't buy it, it was left behind by the previous tenant when I moved into that apartment I was living in at the time. I'll have to scan the picture in someday...maybe I can use it as an avatar or something...

It's quite a conversation piece and usually everyone likes to touch the leg just like Ralphie!

Thanks for comments. Now that the holidays are behind us, I need to get around coating the bar top with envirotex; maybe after the super bowl. I just have to get my butt in gear!

Really nice build Java!

Javatime,

Great look bar buddy. Where did you get your bar stools from? I'm in the process of picking mine. Nothing around here catches my eyes yet. Do you know the sitting height of the stools?

I got the chairs from Branch Brook. I paid less than 1/2 the retail shown here when they go on sale in late winter. They are standard bar height chairs (30") for the 42" bar counter height.
Your build looks great King, nice job and detail work on the arch...amazing

I love your stools. The only problem is that my bar is at 48" counter height. I have no idea why I chose to go that high. Now I'm having a hard time finding any stool that's over 30" in wood trim.

Did you paid half of the price listed on the previous link? If it is, I'm waiting
post #54 of 123
Great build! You've given me some great ideas for mine, we have some of the same hurdles.

Quick question, what screen are you using? Is it electric or manual pull-down?

I'm going to do a similar setup (screen drops down in front of TV) and am in the market for a manual retractable tab tensioned pull-down.

Thanks,
-Todd

Todd,
I have the Elite Cinetension 2 electric screen. It's absolutely flat and never had an issue since day one.

Yeah. I'd keep checking back as they run 50% off sales several times a year. I think I got mine around the Jan/Feb. timeframe

Great build! I agree with everyone else... your woodworking skills really make this room stand out. BTW, nice use of the Kreg Jig. I find this to be a simple yet indispensable tool for wood joinery.

There really are some unbelievable projects on this forum. I am amazed not only at the finished product but also at the detailed documentation that the members have been providing. So much more insightful than any book that is available.

Getting ready to start my own basement conversion. I'm currently in the "sketchup" and "wife persuading" phases. I hope to give back to this forum sometime soon.

Thanks for the comments and welcome to the forum. I almost went with a biscuit joiner, but the Kreg really won out with me and the joints are solid.

I haven't done too much over the last few months except for laying down a seal
coat of Envirotex last weekend to the bar top. I didn't use a plastic cover, but will definately use it after the final flood coat. Man that stuff is a dust magnet. I'll post some updated pics later this weekend.

Here's a few pics of the seal coat. I used 1/4 of the amount and used a plastic spatula and brush. Because the coat is so thin, the brush worked out great. But forget about cleaning this stuff up and reusing anything. I had to throw away a good Purdy brush. These are new buckets for the flood coat

I didn't use a torch. I just moved it around brushed it on and had very little bubbles form.

I'm debating on whether to sand off the top of some of the small pin hole bubbles. I may experiment with a couple I have in the drip tray area and mix up an ounce and see how it covers before the flood pour.

I think because the seal coat is thin, it might minimize trappped bubbles.

I did have a few divits and waves too, but I'm hoping the flood coat will take of that.
