Receiver Suggestion

I am starting from scratch, so nothing is set in stone except for the room which is 19X17 with 7'7" ceilings. Looking at a 125" 2.35:1 screen sitting approx 15' back from the screen.
PJ = Panasonic AE3000
Probably go with Stuart screen
2 Aperion Intimus 5T tower
1 Aperion Intimus 5C Center Channel Speaker
2 Aperion Intimus 4B Satellite Speaker
SVS PB13-Ultra (I like a nice bass feel/sound especially in movies)
PS3

So how does my setup look? Am I going too high or too low on certain items. This is going to be majority for movies and game playing, some TV.

I was told from a local dealer that I should go with a NAD 765. Others from AVS have said I can go with a cheaper AVR. I do like it loud, but my ears don't need to bleed either. Should I look at an external amp with this setup. There are just a lot of choices, and don't really want to skimp too much in one area, but obviously paying to much for something that I might not notice the difference worries me as well. This is a dedicated HT room. Thanks in advance for your help.

a suggestion - go with the lowest priced Denon or Onkyo with pre-outs for all channels. That way you get a good receiver with "probably" enough power for your needs, but you have the option to add external amps if you wish in the future.

Hello,
I agree with the previous poster with one proviso, get the cheapest AVR with preouts which also offers Audyssey MultEQ XT.

With your listening habits, picking up a 200 Watt multichannel amplifier is more than likely the way to go. I am a huge fan of Parasound amplification. However, there is a sizable contingent of Emotiva aficionados here who will recommend their wares as well. And they certainly do offer great value.

Do I need to worry about upconverting in the reciever? I guess all I would have is tv but I will have a HD direct tv reciever. Not sure if ps3 will upconvert any normal DVDs

Onkyo 876, 807 or one of the Denon's 4310,3310. Any of these will have a good video processor and pre-outs if needed. The 876 problably would not need an outboard amp. The Denon 2809 and 3808CI or even the 4308CI would also be excellent choices. If you want the built in WI-FI connection the 4308 is an excellent receiver, very powerful and excellent prices for these right now. Beware of the newer Onkyo's if you need Multi-channel inputs for any reason, some of their newer models don't have them. The 807 being one of those. I agree with the poster on Audessey Multi XT. You would get these with 876,2809,3808,4310,and 4308CI.

The PS3 does upconvert DVD's. However, according to the review in Secrets of Home Theater and High Fidelity, the PS3's DVD performance is subpar to put it kindly. In this case, you would be better served with a AVR with top notch processing to get the best picture.

I think that review might be out of date. Put in the HQV DVD and run the tests with the PS3 upconverting. It's performance is not bad at all.

They definitely improved the PS3's deinterlacing performance at some point in time.

Member here has an excellent buy for an Acurus amp. Check out the "audio for sale" thread.

You might want to also have a look at Integra. If you plan on using a 12v trigger to an outboard amp, I believe the Onkyo trigger is only for Zone2. The nice thing about Integra is that they have more IR and Trigger features than Onkyo.

I had a Denon 3310 for a short time, but it bricked trying to do a firmware update. So I returned it, and went with an Integra DTR-40.1. It's only 100W, but I use it with an Emotiva XPA-3 for the 3 front channels. The 40.1 has Audyssey, but it's not XT, and it has no multi-channel analog inputs.

I have been looking at the Integra 30.1 and 20.1 receivers to replace my Denon 3805.
I have been waiting patiently for the delayed Outlaw 997 and the delayed Emotiva UMC-1.
After doing some searching on this forum, I am not seeing much talk about either of the Integra receivers.
On paper, they look very impressive.
