Projector Graveyard. Share with others where did your "hand me down" go?

Its that time again. Most of us ( including myself ) upgrade annually while others may go through multiple projectors each year. "Projector Misfit Island" must be getting huge.

When making the upgrade what did you do with your old projector, who has it now?

I managed to sell my previous AE2000 and AE3000, but my original AE1000 is in a cupboard minus lamp (went with the AE3000 as it only had a few hours on it) due to a damaged main PCB having written off the PJ . I thought about selling it for spares, but never got round to it (probably nothing worth having apart from the case or the PSU) and I'm still using the remote as it's programmable and I prefered it to the later AE3000 and my current HD350's supplied remote.

I sold my JVC G11 and my RS-1. I was selling both my RS-1 and Lumagen and I thought that the Lumagen would sell very quickly so I put up the projector for sale first so that I wouldnt be stuck with a projector and no scaler. Ironically, I sold the projector in one day and it took 2 weeks to sale the scaler.

I cant remember how long it took to sell the G11 but it wasnt that bad. Like they say for a price anything can be sold

My XG135 NEC, bought from Alan, is at Jeff Bryngelson's house as a permanent loan along with my Faroudja NR scaler ! When Jeff's XG85 died he sent out an SOS and he knew he could do me a favour and removed that CRT from the front corner floor space in my HT room.

I got into the projector bug by wanting to buy a JVC RS1, but plans have taken longer until I ended up with the RS20.

In the meantime I've been using a Panasonic AE900 720p projector that I bought cheap off Ebay. It had over 2000 hours on the bulb and stunk of having been in a heavy smoking environment when I opened it up, all of which I'm sure contributed to it's decidedly duller-than-average picture. But it's been useful to gauge image size on my wall and watch the occaisional flick.

Yet, when my brother and his wife came over they saw the Panny in action on my wall, showing Planet Earth and some other HD material. They were in awe (even despite having bought a 50" plasma not too long ago). He immediately asked what I was going to do with the Panny projector once I got my new JVC into the room. And "how much does a screen cost?" and to his wife: "Honey, we could fit this in the basement..."

So I guess I know where my Panny projector will end up.

I sold both my ax900 and 100 here on AVS.Both sold quite quick'But that was 2 and 3 years ago.Today I notice things are not moving as fast due to the economy.I am also going to get a new fp this fall. But I am going to keep my ax200 for outdoor use and backup.

I sold my Epson HC720 to a friend from work when I bought the RS10 in June. I still have my original G11. Anyone want a G11, cheap?

I have mine stored. Will give it to my son if he ever gets on the FP bandwagon..

My 2002 Panny PT-L300U (= AE300) is still in use at my SO's eldest son's house (along with my old screen). I gave it to him when I replaced it with a Toshiba MT700 (a very big mistake). He is storing the MT700 also (with a new lamp), until we figure out what to do with it. I'm still using the screen that I bought through AVS, in 2004 (thanks Jason Turk).

I got a small Mitsubishi HC3 (on sale cheap) to use after the MT700's lamp failed (a design defect). That is now my backup PJ (so I will never be without a PJ again). I'm currently enjoying my Mitsubishi HC5500 (a 2008.5 PJ) and won't upgrade again until we get some significantly improved PJs. From what I've read so far, the 2010 models appear to be offering only a relatively small incremental improvements over the 2009 models.

PS -- I realize that my PJs are in the "Under $3K" domain. However, I always peruse this forum to see what the latest & greatest offerings are in the PJ world.

Sold my first PJ, Optoma H31. Second PJ is in storage (Epson HC400), I may need to re-install it if I have to send my Pro8100 back!

Infocus 4805 into the closet after I got my HC1500. The HC1500 is now in the closet since I got my Viewsonic Pro8100 last week. What's bad is both of those projectors have less than 100 hours on them and now are just setting in the closet.

Sold my Sharp XV10000U DLP projector 2 years ago. Still have my first projector, Sony VPL-W400Q lcd. Waiting until my theater is near complete until the next one.

I sold my 4805 to our mailman and I gave my Samsung H710 to my son, everyone one is happy! .

I always sell my old ones to pay for part of the cost of upgrading. Except with my first projector, a Sanyo Z3. The blue polarizer went out and Sanyo wouldn't fix it even though it was under warranty. They tried to get me to pay $690 to fix it. Worst of all I couldn't fix it myself because finding parts for it at the time was like pulling teeth.

Anyway I wouldn't sell that piece of junk to some poor soul so I vented some frustration on it instead.

Needless to say I will never purchase anything with a Sanyo logo on it again.

I may be replacing both my InFocus 7210 and Mits HD1000U this fall... the Mits will most likely go to my youngest daughter.

The 7210 is another question...

I'm creating a museum in my garage

will it be government supported and free to the public or will you be asking for donations?

One part of the museum should be dedicated to the progess in how quiet projectors have begun. Start with the JVC Dila G Series that sound like vacuum cleaners and end with a current model

Left my NEC 6PG+ in my old house as part of its sale. In limbo waiting to build the next room.

My BENQ PE7800 is sitting on my media room floor at the moment. No reasonable offer refused!

My first PJ (Infocus X1) I loaned to my daughter's friends father - who was arrested last week, along with his son, for cocaine, bomb making materials, and having an arms cache (including a rocket launcher). I don't think I'll see that back any time soon.

My 2nd PJ (Canon SX-50) I let my niece use. My current PJ is an AE2000, and I'll give that to my daughter when I upgrade later this this year.

I donated my Sharp XVZ9000 to a school. Projector Central has a list of schools that are in need.

My 1995 vintage Sharp XV-S90U I sold to a friend after 5 years of use and several bulbs. Then my Sony VW10HT purchased in 2000 I had for 7 years and several bulbs before selling to another friend who still uses it and loves it. Now I own a JVC RS1u which will be 2 years old this December and I hope to get 5 to 7 years out of it as well.

I sold my Epson HC1080 at the beginning of the year. I still have an 'old' Sony HS-50 and Panasonic AE100. I will probably go ahead and sell or give them away.
Traded my Sony D50 for a Gibson Les Paul guitar. Pretty sweet deal as I figured the D50 was worth around $700 at the time.
An old Mitsubishi CRT projector went to the local charity. I may have claimed $50 for it. Otherwise, I've sold all three digital pjs at about 30-50% of my cost.

He delivers all the HT rags and little by little we would talk, then one day he had a few minutes so he came in for a quick demo..that's all it took. When I upgraded to my Samsung, I made him an offer he couldn't refuse .
The other day we talked and he said that there is no way he can go back to a TV set so now he's looking to upgrade to 1080p projector.
What have I done !.

My 6500UB is on order. After it arrives my old Sony HS-20 will retire to my recreation property with a smaller 82 inch screen.

Heh! My HD2K got handed down to.... ME! It is so light and portable, with that nifty pop-out handle, that I have been taking out to the country on holiday weekends and running impromptu outdoor cinemas with it. I think it will serve that purpose until it dying day - which hopefully will be a long time from now!

Now that I am upgrading to the RS 550, I will be selling the RS1 - I've got a few friends who had been begging me to let them have it, and with less than 100 hours on the current bulb, it'll be in a new home before the 550 has even warmed up properly, I think.

if only LCD TVs and VP units were this easy to give up for adoption!
