As for the movie it was good but I still like the second one the best. Anyone know what kind of numbers it did this weekend?

Congratulations! You never know at 2 1/2.

TS3 was my 4 year olds first 3d movie. When the 3d trailers finally started she kept saying these glasses are AWESOME. This is AWESOME. Like 10 times. So funny. The trailers had some pretty cool 3d effects. The trailer for the Owl movie was pretty intense as well. 106 million is a pretty good weekend haul. The movie was ok for me. I actually shut my eyes and nodded off a bit a third through the movie, but the last half was really good - more what I expected from Pixar. Not as good as the last three Pixar movies but the wife and kids really enjoyed it. 2d would work just as well for this imo.

My 21/2 year old wants to go but I don't know as he's known to have ants in his pants. He can't stay in one spot for too long.

Yeah, that's the thing, you never know how it will play out. Our first couple movies we did at off times and sat right by a walkway between the front seats and the rest of the seats so she was able to get up and move a little.

Mine will run around and thinks its fun to run in the dark. He will be the one giggling and will be the one whispering "get back here".

I'm taking my 6 year old daughter and my 13 year old niece and nephew Saturday. They all want to see it in 3D. They're hooked after seeing How to Train Your Dragon. Avatar in 3D did absolutely nothing for them (or maybe it was just the movie).

I wish we had seen HTTYD in 3d but we did not want to chance it with our 4 year old and, from what I hear, the 3d dynamics made a difference in that movie. The 3d in TS3 was pretty tame. Just there for sense of depth. It really seemed like a 2d presentation on hyper frame interpolation to me. Avatar 3d was cool with the glowing plants that seemed to extend right out into the audience.

HTTYD doesn't need 3D to be an incredible movie. The 3D was great, but the movie didn't rely on it like some. I haven't anticipated a BD release yet like I am that one.

I agree with this. I enjoyed the 3d very much in this film, but it is a great movie either way and does not rely on the 3d to make it great. Should be a great blu ray.

Definitley agree and will be getting that one straight away when it's released on blu. Has a fantastic story!

Correct me if I'm wrong but that was from dreamworks? Kung Fu, shrek ( original ) and HTTYD are dreamworks best.

Some fun Easter eggs, hidden facts and movie references in Toy Story 3.

I hope I did not come across that HTTYD was lacking in 2d? To the contrary, it was a really fun movie for the family. Just that, since I now know my 4 year old can handle the 3d due to TS3, she would have loved HTTYD even more in 3d. Anxiously looking forward to the HTTYD bluray. My daughter was asking to see it at home the day after we saw it opening weekend. I am looking forward to it too as the in theater LFE was the best I have heard (in a commercial theater) and is the impetus for my 4 18" driver, Infinite baffle sub build I am presently in the middle of.

Not at all. If my tone came across that I thought that, it wasn't meant to. My tone generally gets that way when discussing 3D.

I'm jealous of your IB setup. I plan on moving soon so not doing it in this house, but I will in the new one hopefully. Yeah, the sound in HTTYD was awesome and I may break out in a nerd fury if that doesn't translate to the Bluray.

Looking forward to finally watching this on Saturday.

We caught this one on Saturday. It was Toy Story 3. Kind of like 1 and 2. Nothing remarkable to report, really. They're great, but all kind of the same to me. You can get a Ferrari in red, black, or yellow - they're all awesome, but still the same car. That's how the TS trilogy is for me.

Would it be a definite blu ray buy and if you had to choose Stephen between HTTYD and toy story 3 which would it be?

I enjoyed HTTYD more, as did the 6 year old and two 13 year olds that were with us. My wife didn't see HTTYD, so she couldn't compare. Don't get me wrong....TS3 was great, but more of the same in my opinion. I'll be buying both for sure, though.

I saw it last night. I think the adults laughed more than the kids. Much better than the 2nd one, but Pixar has done a lot better (Up and Wall-E come to mind).

Our audience was the same.

I still think Toy Story 2 is the best of the bunch (but I'm a collector by nature, so that aspect of anal toy collectabilty really appealed), but 3 is quite good. I think Dragon is better, but once 3-D becomes affordable- and not before- I know I will want both.

Don't kid yourself, Franin. You're getting both.

TS3 is better than HTTYD IMO. And I do agree it's similar to the other TS movies but honestly aren't most sequels at least mildy similar to each other? In any event there's really no reason to compare the two. Both are very different movies and both are excellent!

As far as comedy goes, I can't remember a thing I laughed about in HTTYD with the exception of the "you worthless reptile" comment. I thought TS3 was very comical. Then again, not everyone has the same sense of humor.

I didn't really take Dragon so much as a comedy, though, whereas TS3 obviously went for the giggles. Dragon, IMO, was more heartwarming and adventurous rather than going for laughs. However, that's certainly not to say TS3 lacked emotion - far from it. Hell, the ending was damn near enough to make eyes well up with tears (not me since I'm big and manly and work out ). Two very, very different movies that, like you said, there's no reason to compare. Both are extremely good and will most certainly be purchased by me on release day.

On another note, the sound in TS3 (in my particular theater) was fabulous, as was the use of 3D (Dolby). There was never any hint of two separate images on the screen like I saw with Avatar (RealD).

saw it saturday. sat between an elderly couple in their 80s and 2 10 (about) year old girls. went with my teenage son.

wonderful, excellent movie. my favorite of all the pixar movies, mostly because
of the humor. jokes running constantly. seemed to appeal to all ages.

this will probably be the best movie of the summer.

one note, saw it in real 3d on sony 4k projector. while the 3d is nice, it
didn't really add too much to the viewing experience. not like avatar
where the 3d blew me away.

it should transfer just fine to b.r. might just have to add this to my collection.

Just finished watching this movie and it was fantastic. This movie will be perfect in 2D also.

Agreed. Caught it yesterday. Call me crazy, but it moved me more than TS1 or 2. Great film.

When they all hold hands in the incinerator... that was just too good. It was a reminder that this film was about more than toys. It was about the potency and power of meaningful and lasting relationships. Whether that be with a toy, a friend, a mom, etc.

The 3D was not needed. Much like Up from last year. I'd rather of had the brighter 2D projection and a little more cash in my wallet.

Big thumbs up.

Also caught the film yesterday. Loved it. When Pixar puts the emotional hook in, they sink it in deep (like the opening of 'UP'). And the technical stuff (animation, 3-D, etc) has become so invisible at this point, that it's like watching pure storytelling. I don't think there was a single moment where I was wowed by the animation or impressed by the 3-D. It felt completely natural.

yep, it has to be the best non-vampire/werewolf flick of the summer.
