One of my favorite soaps.
Love the new "direction" Elena is going: a vamp more human than not.

I'm glad they've finally gotten rid of Klaus (for the moment), although it's a bummer that they knocked off Alaric at the same time (especially since the show he left to pursue looks far less interesting than this one). I hope the new vampire hunter turns out to be a worthy adversary for this season.

One thing that bothered me was the way they did Elena's transformation: Stefan was complaining to Damon about how Elena would have been mortified at accidentally killing somebody if she tried to feed from humans, but she had no qualms about Stefan killing a guard so she could get the blood she needed to complete the transition. What made it even more disappointing was that they went to the trouble to bring Matt all the way out to where Elena was without actually having him provide the blood for her transformation, which would have made more sense (both in the context of the show and the novels). At least the writers killed Elena "properly" by having her die on the bridge.

Although Klaus was a great baddie, it's important to cycle the non-essential characters through TV shows.
Of course, many these days DO outstay their welcomes.

Elena as a vampire is paying dividends in the drama.

Her poor stupid brother never seems to get a break.

This school teacher needs to have his throat ripped out already, along with the she-wolf.

At least he didn't get shipped off to another state/country/planet this time. I expect the Alaric replacement's dastardly plan won't be revealed until the end of the season. The next few episodes will probably be dedicated to un-siring Elena, which ought to be difficult, considering she can't just wolf-ify herself repeatedly like the hybrids can. I have to admit I've found those sequences to be rather amusing, as the show apparently doesn't have the budget to deal with animal trainers anymore. Not a single one of these supposed werewolves has actually been shown as a wolf in ages.

The wolf thing doesn't bother me.
I have always felt seeing werewolves shown as actual wolves to be not credible for some reason.

Nice to see Damian FINALLY gets a "taste" of his object of desire....

Another good episode.

The sire-bond cannot be broken and Damien deserves his little yoga sessions with Elena.
Alot of hybrids are going to hit the floor when Klaus finds out what has happened.

The "girls night out" scene was VERY nice.

The mid-season restart has been very strong.

Next week's trailer shows the Scooby Gang going on a road trip to track down Silas....very cool.

It seems certain that Silas will awaken in the penultimate episode of this season, seeing as the final episode is the backdoor pilot for "The Originals", and the show will need a new villian once Klaus returns to New Orleans (unless the CW doesn't pick it up). I found Kol's demise particularly satisfying this week. Those kitchen spray hoses sure come in handy.

I didn't care much for him either- good riddance! But is anyone ever really gone for good on TVD?
His sister on the other hand- I hope she sticks around...

The CW is working on a spinoff called "The Originials" that will star Klaus and Elijah after the events of this season, when they return to New Orleans. Phoebe Tonkin is also going to join the cast and reprise her role of Hayley, supposedly. It's too early to tell if the show will get picked up, but I wouldn't be surprised if it joins the 9 p.m. slot in the fall, seeing as it would be the perfect companion for this show on Thursdays, and both Klaus and Elijah are popular characters.

I've always like the character of Elijah much better than Klaus. It would have been much better if they had reversed the actors for those two characters as the actor who plays Klaus just really isn't very good.

Very cool info, and I do agree it would be a great companion show for TVD.
Although I am not sure about using N.O.
Ann Rice and True Blood have used it quite a bit in the past.

I think the guy plays a nasty, menacing, and cold-blooded killer of a "Klaus" quite well.
Just my opinion, of course.

I have no complaints regarding Joseph Morgan's portrayal of Klaus (aside from his glaring lack of a trenchcoat? ), but Daniel Gillies' Elijah is a more complex character and thus also more enjoyable to watch. He is supposedly going to shoot both The Originals and Saving Hope at the same time, if the former gets picked up.

Have you seen H20: Just Add Water? It's available on streaming netflix and stars Claire Holt, Phoebe Tonkin, and Cariba Heine. It's an Australian TV show about three high school girls who become mermaids. It is targeted at kids, but is surprisingly well done and fun. They just need to get Cariba to guest on Vampire Diaries to complete the trifecta!

Tonite's episode was very good.

Really liked the whole "outdoors" background.
Most of what happens is indoors....this is a nice change of pace.

It's really difficult for me to accept EVERYONE but Damien is wise to the professor's shtick.

I'm also liking the direction this season has taken, and I find myself kind of wishing that Claire Holt was on the list to join the cast of The Originals. I have a feeling she's going to become human at the end of this season and get written out of both series for good, which is a shame. She makes a good foil for Elena.

I have to wonder if I'm the only one puzzled by everyone's assumptions about the cure. Nobody ever said that it was some easily duplicated recipe that could be distributed worldwide or used repeatedly; for all we know it's a vial containing a single, special drop of blood (although the writers would get kudos for making it a flower) that only one vampire can drink (smell? ) to become human, but everyone's assuming that there will be enough to go around. I predict that the scooby gang will have to decide who gets to use the single available dose, and it probably won't end up going to the person we expect to receive it.

That is something I hadn't really thought of about the cure, but your reasoning is so sound that I bet it happens. The cure is only good for one vampire and they give it to someone other than Elena. Does vampire Elena still love a human Damon?

That would be pretty much impossible, since they follow completely different storylines. If anything, it's somewhere between a pleasant surprise and a shock when the TV show borrows any element from the books.

To answer your question, no, I have not read the books or really know much about them. But VD is one of the more cleverly written shows on television and that is how I would handle the love triangle at the current moment. The whole audience is expecting Elena to become a human again at the end of the season.

Just as from day one we fully expected her to become a vampire at some point - it was only a matter of time.

One thing about TVD.. they certainly don't mind killing off (semi-important) cast members.
I miss Rick, Jenna and even Lexi, also liked Jeremy's GF Anna and her mom- don't miss uncle John, Elena's mom, Tyler's dad (and now his mom) or Vicky Donovan.
And yes, we still have Rebekah....
