Blu-Rays that are too good for thier own good!?

I don't have any specific examples, but I was wondering if anyone has any examples from movies where the clarity of blu-ray actually takes you out of the movie because you notice things that are fake...props, blood, scenery, etc.

Please don't start talking about EE that make people look fake. I'm talkin about seeing someones makeup or ketchup blood that wouldn't have been visible in older theaters.

Thanks for your input!

The original Friday the 13th. The kills look pretty bad. Especially when the girl gets her neck sliced towards the beginning of the movie. Her neck is clearly makeup and doesnt match the color with her face. Same with the Kevin Bacon kill later on in the movie. Makes me wish the theatrical cut was released on Blu.

The original Dawn Of The Dead has a few Zombies that look more like Smurfs than zombies. Still love the movie and it is defiantly worth viewing in HD.

Yup....I just finished watching it. Well worth owning on BD, but some of the zombies didnt benefit from HD.

Adventures of Robin Hood - The sets really look fake now, especially at the beginning - villages, etc. and interiors. Anyway, doesnt matter since its my all time favorite movie. Outstanding job of remastering

Rambo II: you can see the pipe of the smoke generator in the helicopter as it struggles to return to base at the end.

Star Trek TOS. A lot of makeup back then.

I just thought of one!

Ghost Busters, the scene where Sigourney Weaver is sitting in a chair and a demon grabs her from behind.

The demon grabs her shirt and in the process, on VHS and DVD it looks like her breast is exposed! However on blu you can clearly see it's just an undershirt!

You just needed a better TV! Never looked like a breast to me... although I tried to make it so by squinting just right!

Their mistake too cause you would have upgraded again and again for 3-D or Violet-ray or whatever just to see that boob in better detail.

And from what I hear 2010, but I still have it sitting wrapped on my shelf.

The Matrix Reloaded\\Revolutions

I recall seeing these in the theaters and being in awe of the 'digital cinematography' (as they call it) and how 'real' it looked. If you don't know what it is, its essentially where they make a video game of the movie scene and film it.. CGI actors, CGI light sources. CGI settings and backgrounds, and completely controllable 360 deg 'digital' camera (i.e., the 'gamers' viewpoint). Great example of this is the Burly Brawl scene.. after awhile of Keanu and the Hugo's hashing it out, theres a distinct change to a video-game-like characterization of Keanu and the Hugo's and their fighting.

Anyway.. years ago it looked cutting-edge and -- while still obvious CGI -- it was impressive and exciting enough that it didnt matter. Years later after swallowing the disappointing end of the trilogy and watching it in 1080p on Blu.. its enough to make you laugh in embarrassment. It looks like I'm watching a FMV from Max Payne 2 or something. It's that washed out, that silly-looking, and that dated.

Honestly, I always thought this scene looked bad. One of many reasons
I didn't like the sequels.

The jaguar in Apocalypto looked pretty bad. Shame since the PQ is so good.

"Rambo II: you can see the pipe of the smoke generator in the helicopter as it struggles to return to base at the end."

I noticed that pipe on SD back in the 80's.

The first Harry Potter you can REALLY tell when it's a CGI person flying on a broom, versus a real person blue-screened on a CGI background. For example when Neville is flailing around and then falls and his cloak gets caught on the spike.

It wasn't nearly as noticeable in SD.

I second the StarTrek TOS nomination.

That scene always looked pretty bad to me.

The Wizard of Oz.

Lots of set pieces and perspective issues that are even more apparent in HD.

Most noticeable one is Dorothy at the end of the first song, skipping down the yellow brick road right into a painted wall before the scene cuts to the next. She practically stops before the cut.

That scene looked terrible when it first came out and looks even worse now. I can't believe they went forward with the overzealous use of CGI philosophy. The first movie was so awesome because they blended it without it looking fake.

I'm sure that Wolverine's blades will be even more laughable (CG) for the Blu-Ray release of "X-men Origins: Wolverine" on 9/15/2009.

I just mentioned it in the Braveheart thread: time stamp 2:12:16... girl who is supposed to be crying over dead body after battle is laughing uncontrollably and it is so apparent on BD. Also when "Mel" is supposedly on his horse in some scenes it is so obvious it is the stuntman. The stunt doubles maybe the most revealing weakness when we see the detail we do on BD's.

Gladiator at the 9:44-45 mark has guys who are laughing and facing away from each other when they are supposed to be in a blood thirsty battle.

The soft focus closeups of the female crew members have been standing out to me a lot more than they used to, since the normal shots are so clear now by comparison.

Shatner's makeup was always obvious. Kirk always looked like he put on a dress when he was off duty!

HD hasn't improved the look.

So true. You first noticed it on VHS and every version since (about 15 of them) it just gets worse and worse.
