Don't know what's available in Romania and don't know if you are willing incur the expense and hassle of importing from US. You may have better luck starting a thread in the "Speaker" forum.

Thanks mate! I setup my Marantz in my home and work flawless. Sound quality is much better and crisp that the previous Sherwood R-772. Watching movies is a dream now!

I'm thinking about buying a Logitech Harmony remote, but I've read some reports that these remotes do not work properly with Marantz receivers. Is this a known fact, or old info?
Works well with my Harmony 670 and 620 remotes. There may be some function(s) the Harmony remote may have issues with, but I haven't found it with basic setup.

Well I got the Marantz SR5004 and it was GREAT for 2 days. Now it won't turn on. I've tried unplugging it but no dice. I bought it from Acc.4less so hope no problem getting an RMA ticket.....

I loved the sound on this, I'm very disappointed

there's no reason why it shouldn't work...

it's possible that those "reports of issues" were user error related...

They are a great outfit and will help you undoubtedly. Ask for a 5005 at replacement - much more stable/reliable unit.

Speak to Mark at Accessories4less - he is a very stand up guy and i have bought from him numerous times in the past. See if you can work out a deal on moving up to the 5005.

I'm going to follow your advice Winston and call Mark this morning, My unit after being unplugged over night came on this morning... I think I'll call Mark anyway...

Sorry to hear your problem with your 5004. I received my refurbed 5004 from same source with great results...thus far anyway. I have been driving it pretty hard for over a year. I am however, using the pre outs for the fronts and center, so most of the drive is actually from outside amps. Anyway, I'm very happy with it and still enjoying it as much as the day I first got it.
Good luck with your replacement!

Alright, don't know what i did but my remote doesn't do anything. Whatever button i pressed is not reacting at all. I also changed my batteries.

On receiver display is selected DVD, Auto, Speaker 1 ...
On remote whatever i select either AMP or DVD is not doing anything.

What i am doing wrong?

I was wondering if there was any way to have 2 sources with the same video input with the SR5004? To explain; I have my PC hooked up to HDMI 2 for the best audio quality. But I want to be able to switch the input to say my 200 disc CD changer and have my PC displaying on my TV. That way I could listen to CDs while I'm browsing the web. I went into the Input Setup but it wouldn't let me have HDMI 2 as the input for both CD and DVD (which is my PC).
Could I get a DVI to HDMI cable and plug it into another HDMI port on the receiver and use that as the video input for CD? I was trying to avoid having so many cables running at once.

function with signal 3D?????
I've acquired a SR6004 in the last few days and in the early stages of set up.

One thing I cannot find is how to activate the OSD not for setup, but in general use. For example, the volume, DSP mode etc. My fear is that this feature doesn't exist..surely not? It's impossible to read the small display on the unit itself at a distance of more than 6 inches!
I have managed to pass a 3D 720p video signal from my PS3 through my SR6004 to my Samsung LED display.

While connected to the receiver, I was not able to enable 3D in the display settings of my PS3. However, If I connected the the PS3 to the receiver with the display settings already set, 3D was working (tested with Resistance 3 Demo).

I guess the PS3 recognizes the receiver as a non 3D-capable device during setup.

In short:
1. Connect PS3 to display
2. Set up your PS3 for 3D in the Display Settings
3. Connect your PS3 to your receiver and your receiver to your tv.
(don't forget to turn off your devices before changing/making connections)

Might work for other blu-ray players as well.

As we all know, the user can either select Auto setup for speakers or Manual.

However, what I can't work out is how to select the Manual settings when listening. What mode do I need to select so that it plays back using the manual settings rather than those created in the Auto setup?

Hi guys, this is the first time that i write in this thread(and generally in this forum), but i've some question to make to the owners of 5004.
First, i'm a owner from the end of 2009, and, like many others, my unit was hit by POD in October 2011. My system is 5.0 without sub, because now i spent my money to buy the other speakers(last month): Tannoy Eyris 3 for the front, Eyris DCC for the centre(all in bi-wiring connection), Eyris 1 for the rear. Well, my questions about 5004: what's the best setting i have to put on the unit to make work correctly front speakers with lfe channel(large/small, LPF/LFE level) ? When i use SOURCE DIRECT/PURE DIRECT, does the manual equalatation of the speakers work or not? And with AUTO? In bi-wiring configuration, the best position of the rear button is OFF or C? Finally, i'm very proud for this receiver, the sound in Source direct(not a great cd player, but for my use works well: Toshiba HD-XE1) in very impressive, and i restart to listen my olds Cd after 6-7 years!

Thaks to all!

Regards.

1. Run Audyssey Auto Setup which will set the front speakers to LARGE (as there is no sub). The LPF for LFE setting should be at 120hz.
2. No Audyssey EQ is applied in DIRECT/PURE DIRECT, although not sure if Manual can be used.
3. First off note that "bi-amping" adds no real benefit, although when used, set the Speaker C selector switch to "ON".
Hi, when i use Audessey calibration, Marantz set all speakears "AUTO".
I'm not using bi-ampling connection, but bi-wiring.
I know than in source direct/pure direct mode Audissey not works, but the question is: and the speakers levels set manually?
About the LPF/LFE level, somebody said that 120Hz crossover is not he best w/out sub, because all frequencies under 120Hz are send to the sub, and the better frequency is 40Hz: any though?
Speakers are set to either "LARGE" or "SMALL", so not sure where you're seeing "AUTO".
Bi-wiring would connect 2 sets of wires from the same FL/FR speaker posts so the Speaker C setting doesn't apply. Note also that bi-wiring is even more worthless then bi-amping.
Again, unsure about manual setup. If you can select Manual setup, then likely yes.
Setting the LPF for LFE setting to 120hz allows the full range LFE signal to pass through the AVR and therefore is the best setting.
It will state AUTO until you have stored the settings.

My problem is the other way around.

I can get 3D on the TV but no sound out of the Marantz sr6004.

I have a Samsung BD-D6500. I do not use pass through and have my 3D blueray going into BD1 HDMI in.

One HDMI out to Samsung 55" LED Smart TV. Both DVD and TV purchased in Dec 2011.

I've been going through the audio connections and it looks like everything is ok but still no sound.

I do get sound with a regular blueray or regular DVD with no problems. Test 3D DVDs are Toy Story 2 and Tron Legacy.

Blueray is set to Bitstream, not PCM. Tried it all ways possible.

There's no mention in the 6004's manual that it can support 3D video streams. I suspect that its audio decoding simply can't handle the high bitrate involved. A workaround is to get one of the 3D Blu-ray players which have dual HDMI outputs -- one is intended tp be connected directly to a 3D TV for the video, while the other is to be connected to a receiver that doesn't support 3D, for the audio. Sony's S790, Panasonic's BDT 500 and Oppo's 103 and 105 all are 3D players with this feature. The first two cost substantially less than $300, while the latter are $500 and $1000. Or you could upgrade to a current generation receiver which does have 3D support, but that'd be more expensive.

[edited to add] You didn't explicitly say you're using the players non-HDMI digital audio output. I haven't seen the Samsung player's manual, but double check that you've enabled output on the S/PDIF connection (coax or optical). Some players disable S/PDIF audio if HDMI audio is enabled.

True, I am not using the optical digital out from the DVD to the receiver.

I will check the DVD settings to see if it will support Optical out and HDMI out at the same time.

TV has four HDMI inputs so as long as the DVD can run both outputs at the same time I should be able to get sound and video.

Thanks! I bought the Marantz in 2010 and it is still going strong. Sound is still awesome on all DVDs. Wife came in last night to tell me to turn in down! What?

Ensure the "Secondary Audio" or "Mix" setting on the D6500 is set to OFF.

Finally the connections are correct for the following components.

Receiver - Marantz sr6005
Blue-Ray - Samsung BD-D6500 3D
TV - Samsung LED 3D SmartTV

Issue was sound with 3D using HMDI connections going from DVD to Receiver to TV.
3D video was fine with the HDMI connections.

Connections are now;

BD-D6500 to TV via HDMI
BD-D6500 to Receiver via Optical Out
BD-D6500 audio is set to Bitsream (Unprocessed)

Now getting 3D on the TV and all channels on the Receiver (5.1).

I also tried Optical Out from the TV to the Receiver and that did not seem to work.

Thanks JD!
It's too bad Optical only supports 5.1 and not 7.1 ! Otherwise I'd be happy to keep this non-1.4 receiver forever.

I have a quick Q, if you don't mind. Has anyone with an SR 5004 gotten bitstreamed audio through HDMI to upmatrix 5.1 dolby digital to 7.1 ? I just bought Django and it's only a 5.1 bluray, I was disappointed that I spent all that time hooking up my rear speakers and rarely get any sound out of them. Thinking 7.1 is a dud (need to move my side surrounds to rear all the time to feel the sound field properly) or maybe I need a receiver that will upmatrix those channels. I tried all the settings I could see on the front panel, are there others I might try? I don't want to use analogue inputs, ideally. (though I realize upmatrixing is trivial from a PC, not sure about PS3 which is how I watch my Blurays). PS3 won't upmatrix a bitstream, right? because none of that data can get modified at all, correct? I assume the receiver in the case of DTS / AC3 / TrueHD needs to do what it can at its end to use the speakers you have, I just can't figure it out, or even if the 5004 supports upmatrixing to 7.1

It does ... select DD PLIIx.
