Not denon (or at least in my experience with the 2310), just onkyo. Onkyo you can manually adjust the crossover of each speaker. Guess helpful if you have widely varied speakers (ie mix in some no highs, no lows bose).

I had this feature on denon 2308, 2808 and my current 2809. I wonder if this has been downgraded in the 2310.

I'll check again, but I am 90% sure my denon 2310 only has options of LARGE or SMALL

The manual is kind of a mess, but it looks like it mentions it on page 30 under "Advanced" in the crossover frequency section.

I'll dig through it later tonight. Makes me wonder if the marantz can as well considering their common heritage. Onkyo displays the xovers immediately after audyssey. they do have a full range option as well.

Think so, but the marantz allows you to set the equalizer per channel to adjust the volume at the full range of frequency. very cool.

I have decided to buy SR5004 and hopefully I will get it soon. I was looking for similar thread for previous Models and found out there is a common thread for Marantz SR5003/6003/7003/8003. 6004 has some added features over 5004, even the official Marantz manual for both is same with special comments for 6004.

I was wondering if you can change the title to SR5004/6004 (I haven't seen 7 & 8 yet) and also accommodate 5004 here or do you suggest me to start a new thread just for SR5004?

They are pretty similar and will inevitably share a lot of the same questions/issues. I changed the title of the first post, but the mods will need to adjust the title.

i did not realize the 5004 was even out yet - my dealers were saying October.

I have not exeperienced any. For reference I am going out to an 8G Pioneer Kuro and have a marantz bd7004, oppo bdp83, and Onkyo hd-dv805 going into the marantz SR6004.

Hi thanks for the great information so far.

I'm wondering what the differences would be for me between the 6003 and the 6004. (or even the 5004).

In my case, I use a PS3 as my Blu-ray player, so the only other HDMI input is the cable box. 95% of the movies I watch are blu-ray, so all lossless codecs, but from the PS3 it will be lpcm anyway, I believe. Setup as 5.1, perhaps 7.1 in the future but all of these are capable of that. I have no interest in iphone/ipod, BT capabilities. I plan on using the Audyssey auto-setup features. One of the volume-compression algorithms for night-time movie watching or game playing when the spouse is asleep would be nice also.

I'm of course figuring there will be some deep discounts on the 6003, which will make me consider if the upgrades to the 6004 will be something I would even make use of. There is the 10W/ch of course, but the 100W/ch rating on the 6003 is supposedly conservative anyway, so it should be sufficient. Room is not overly large. Main seating is 7' back from a 67" tv with about 20 feet of open room behind the seating. Room is about 15' wide. So long narrow room with television at one narrow end. Are there any known problems with the x003/x0004 series and the PS3? I typically use the 1080p/24 output to the TV when watching BR discs.

Thanks for any help. I'm frequently discouraged when trying to compare receivers, and the higher end ones just seem to add more features that I won't be using anyway, instead of adding more watts and better sound quality (which is what I'm really interested in.)

Well, after just one week of use, my SR6004 just died. I was watching college football game day and there was a slight pop and the receiver went into protect mode. Piece! Only lasted 8 days!!!!

Should have stuck with Onkyo.

That's unfortunate - hopefully it doesn't prove to be a systemic problem with 6004s, and is just an issue with the one you received - which, perhaps not coincidentally, must've been one of the very first 6004s sold and delivered.

While the switch-out is a little PITA, it's a reminder of why it's nice to have a warranty. BTW, I wouldn't be quick to conclude Marantz are inferior to Onkyo or cheaply built products... from what I gather from owners on AVS and elsewhere, they're well built and well liked products - at least all the way up through the xxx3 models (too early to call with the xxx4s).

I am going to avoid rash decisions regarding build quality, but this has been a huge disappointment in large part because I bought this in large part based upon the perception of quality. I have owned a dozen onkyos and there have been issues - boards going bad and even poor soldering.

This is the first receiver I have owned that has died in less than 2 weeks of ownership. All of my speakers are 8ohms and i do not push amps hard.

Yes, I'll be interested to hear more. I guess I asked my question at a bad time, since the only AVS forum member who owns a 6004 just had it blow out on him. Can't expect very good response in that situation...
Or... Perhaps in its own way, this reponse is indicating I should just go with a 6003 on closeout

In preliminary tests it falls more towards the useless category. before my 6004 died on me, i did run a dvd in source direct and found it pretty average in deinterlacing. i did not have time to run synthetic tests. hopefully i will be getting my new unit today and will be able to re-test tomorrow.

long story short. It replced a sr7001, but somehow the sound was different, not better or worst ,just different, I found it kind of "thin", but this is just me. I will get an 8001 instead.

the thin sound might be the lack of thx processing. thx tends to amp up the bassy thud of things - right or wrong
