Battleship: The Movie and more - Page 7

For those that have seen it, how does this movie compare to G.I. Joe? "Joe" was one of those mindless gratuitous movies that I didn't mind renting for a buck or two and my girl even enjoyed it on that level. Is Battleship close?

Closet Geek the movie Id say is a fun film. Dont expect any award winning story but just sit back and enjoy the ride.

The correct phrase is "suspension of DISbelief", ie choosing not to think about the absurdity of what one is seeing. The way you phrased it makes the movie seem even sillier, ie you buy into NONE of it.

It isn't often I demand my viewing time back, but this is a HORRIBLE movie.

First movie I have seen all year that absolutely, positively deserves a Mystery Science Theater 3000 treatment.

Seeing her manning a mini-gun on the little inflatable boat was hysterical....and stupid.

From a > 200m budget, they allocated 4 bucks for the screenplay.
Man, it just doesn't get any more pathetic than that....

movie would have been much better if cut to 90 minutes instead of the tortureous 2+ hours

So I watched this movie over the weekend. I went into it expecting it to be somewhat mindless drivel. And it was definitely eye candy as opposed to mind candy.

However, I found myself getting into the film, enjoying watching the Army guy come out of himself and the brother (yeah, I have no idea who those characters were - like I said, eye candy...) grow up and take better control of himself.

I do wonder if it is even possible to move a Battleship like that and why on earth did we need to see an alien survivor but otherwise it was an thoroughly enjoyable film. The ending was a bit meh.

I did find it to be somewhat like the first Star Trek reboot, in some odd way. Still, not as bad as I had been previously lead to believe.

Agree, the movie is mindless entertainment. I dont get why Battleship gets bashed and Avangers gets so praised? Neither is Shakespeare material.

It seems like every movie cliche in the book is in this movie.
I kept waiting to hear "Yippie-ki-yay, MF!" at some point.

Not only is the writing horrid, so is the acting....lead by that master thespian, Taylor Kitsch.

I was mildly entertained by this. The key is to drop your brain functions so low that all you can do is remember to breathe and where your beer is.

Even with this I could NOT figure out why the LFE was so low in this. With all the big impacts the biggest pulse I had in my room was something really innocuous. Been a while so I don't remember specifics, but no excuse for this.

I tried that....it did not work.

Before watching it I had very low expectations, from friends, forums and so forth.

It's probably the worst movie I've seen this year (haven't seen The Avengers).
Didn't expect much and that is what i got

It had about 2 or 3 intersting/funny scenes, the rest were pretty horrible.
It had a kind of interesting concept but since the script is pretty much non-existant it doesn't count for much.

I guess it may work as movie when you're debilitated by a hangover. but other then that........

Try it again.

I enjoyed it, fun film

Just caught this one while semi-stuperous late night. It is a definite contender for the movie best to mock for continuity/plot hole problems. True, it has no chance of overtaking The Lost World: Jurassic Park in that category, but its deficiencies are the charm of the flick.

What is sillier-
# a message is sent x number light-years away to a planet and aliens show up in response months later
# the token geek confronts one of the impervious alien armored troops in a small trailer, the alien is eyeball to finger with the geek and he escapes unexplained
# the Battleship Missouri is commandeered from use as a museum, yet is armed with cannon shells and powder, and machine guns are armed and ready as well
# the boilers are fired up in minutes
# the Missouri turns so adroitly it heels over, the anchor is drooped in the middle of the ocean and stops the ship in seconds and in a distance of feet
# one shot to the top of a mountain is dead on target executed by people who have zero experience with the ship

I guess my expectations were so low that I actually liked the movie once I saw it. It was cheesy, illogical and full of cliches but it was fun. It was like a live action anime. However, if I'd actually paid money to see it in a theater, I'd be furious.

Actually had some down time last night so watched my dvr recording. I had no high expectations going in but the first 20 minutes of the movie were IMO the worst. It was all so pointless and I felt like they were trying to generate the same kind of humor as was done with Thor when he first arrived at Earth. Thor worked. This one didn't. Pretty much after the soccer game it just became mindless fun for me. I won't be buying it or going out of my way to watch it again but it's good enuf to have it on while I'm folding laundry or something.

To add to the list of "no way's".....where were the submarines? And you get command of your the boat of your choice just like that? But then again, "the slacker" did enlist as a ranking lieutenant so why not, lol!

No Way - Unless the criminal charges in the store break-in were dropped there is no way he would have been permitted to become an officer in the US Navy.

There was actually an epilogue, longer than most of its kind, that ran after the credits had completely finished. Looks like they left the door open. Don't know how many people waited around to see it. Masochism does have its limits.

Yeah, I saw that and that's why I asked that question (in jest). Of course they left that door open, just in case they managed to accidentally make a mint on this one.
