New House and a new Plasma (Panny TC-P65S1) Questions

So we are about to close on a new house here in Austin after moving back from Philly after only one year, just missed Austin too much.

I have a two year old Panasonic 58pz800u that we were using in the living room and sold a no name 50" 720p Plasma instead of moving it cross country.

After months of negotiations with the wife I was able to convince her to let me love the 58" to the bedroom since with the side mounted speakers on the old 50", the 58" is within an inch of being the same width.

Anyway, looking at new sets I've pretty much decided on the Panasonic TC-P65S1. My question is, when comparing the two on Panasonics site the TC-P65S1 lacks the following vs the 58pz800u:
24p Cinematic Playback
x.v.Color
THX Mode
Video Noise Reduction
Sub Pixel Control
Digital Cinema Reality

I know there are also a lot of things the newer TC-P65S1 generation of sets does better as well.

For the most part we watch HD cable (comcast or timewarner) and blurays from the PS3.

Video is run into the set from a Pioneer Elite VSX-84TXSi through HDMI. Does this change anything in respect to the video features lacking?

Audio is done through the elite, cinenova grande 5, klipsch rf-83s, rc-64, rs-62s, and rsw12 - so I'm not too worried about the differences in the sets' speakers.

If any of these features kills the set in terms of comparing it to the older 58". Should I look again at the Samsung 63's and Pioneer 60's (killer deals on non-elite and elite Kuros currently).

Thanks so much for the help,
-Peter

Your audio will remain the same since you run your BD through your Pioneer Elite ( I do the same, Elite VSX-01THX). I actually run all my video inputs, i.e. Tivo, BD player etc.. through the Pioneer HDMI.

The TC-P65S1 has the same panel as the TC-P65V10 but without the internet connection, 3 HDMI instead of 4, no THX mode, no 24p playback, less picture control (much less).

The V10 is a better set but for me the cost differential was not justified. I already have video stream via the Tivo and the Samsung BD 2550. The last thing I need would be Yahoo widgets.

Either the S1 has a better picture than 58PZ800U I do not know but the screen size and the PQ were reported to be fairly close to the 65V10. Either the additional features are worth the $ differential to you only you can decide.

But between the S1 and PZ of the same size, 58", I would choose the S1.

And I did.

Thanks for the info chanc.

Does the 24p playback lack really hinder bluray performance?

I've recently begun evaluating the S1 also.
How comparable is the Samsung 63B590 to the Panasonic 65S1?
They appear to be within just a couple hundred dollars of each other.
Would the B590 serve you better? It has 4 HDMI too.

edit - the Cinema Smooth on the Samsung is the 96mhz playback, but i think it's buggy iirc..

edit2 - I found this thread to be very informative: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1127194

Great info slandrum_ii.

The 4vs3 HDMI connections really doesn't bother me. I just run one HDMI cable from the Elite to the TV
