"Community" on NBC HD - Page 5

I laughed a lot last night. Start to finish. Haven't done that with a comedy in a long time.

Regarding Jeong, I've been more in the 'VFX camp'. I changed my mind last night - he fit well.

Brilliant last night. Chevy Chase is back.

Thanks for that complete quote, Comsos!

I've seen 1 or 2 episodes of Curb but none of those movies and have never seen him before. Not everyone has the same taste in movies as you. Regarding Jeong, From reading this thread he obviously has fans who appreciate his delivery. I find his delivery very annoying. I'm still waiting for a funny line from him, which, of course is not his problem.

The Batman stuff was spot on. This show has just the right amount of oddness to make it stand out from the current crop of sitcoms.

This week I was kind of laughing at just how strange some of it was. Beastmaster just doesn't get referenced enough in popular culture.

Ken Jeong had some nice moments this episode incidentally. Toned down his usual shouting and the "Looooooser" drive-by was nicely timed.

Plus Annie was very cute and Britta made a hot looking squirrel.

Great ep....but why didn't someone just drop "Chevy" at his house?
Finally got around to watching the Halloween ep today. Just outstanding. The folks who aren't watching this show have no idea what they're missing.

The Halloween episode was probably the funniest half hour of any comedy this season. Abed's Batman delivery was hilarious - especially when he ramped up the growl as he noticed the snack choices.

It has the sort of weirdness that The Simpsons had at their peak -- before the show became a giant celebrity cameo fest.

And in this episode, Jeong was dialed back. I'm not in the camp that says Jeong isn't funny. I just think his delivery comes off as downright desperate at times. Obviously his routine is about anger. But, from a comedic standpoint, that seething sort of Sideshow Bob anger is a lot funnier than the over-the-top Angry Dad humor. (I'm stuffing this post with Simpsons jokes. Can we get a Poochie joke before its over? OH WOW! I think that was a Poochie joke! Or, dare I say, a metajoke.)

The thing that is really funny about Community is that the writers seem to have a list of things they flat-out hate and intend to tear to shreds.

Some of the funniest moments on Community so far have been brutal deconstructions of things the writers hate, such as the episode tearing apart Dead Poets Society.

I still think Annie and Shirley are stealing the show. When they get their feelings hurt they make themselves centers of attention until they get resolution. It's done by powerful acting, otherwise we wouldn't care about them just based only on the story.

I can't say anyone is stealing the show. I will say characters like Annie and Shirley, both of whom I was on the fence about when the show started, have really stepped up.

I'd agree with that. It's the first episode where I thought he was funny and a net positive to the story. If the directors continue to rein him in like this, I don't mind him.

Chevy as Beastmaster was well worth the price of admission.

After a sort of uncertain start, this show has morphed into what I consider the funniest show of the new season, containing:

actual characters, who manage to both be funny and remain true to themselves

first-rate actors to portray said characters

a spot-on send-up of the feel of a community college

extremely witty writing and first-rate directing. The timing of everyone is flawless, and the pacing is fast, along the lines of His Girl Friday

the courage to show everyone warts and all. Ken is a funny annoying person

and a sense of utter craziness that doesn't descend into everyone doing a "look how adorably crazy I am"

I am looking forward to the DVD, because I know I should be able to watch this puppy over and over.

I didn't think this was as laugh-out-loud funny as the previous episode but it was solidly amusing. Especially since I was watching it while eating cereal for dinner. I really need to get out more.

The "Britta is a B" song did remind me too much of "Scotty Doesn't Know" from Eurotrip, but it wasn't bad.

I agree. Since I found the Halloween "Statistics" episode fall on the floor funny, it was only natural there would be a bit of drop off. Still good, but "Parks and Recreation" was the one that was fall on the floor funny this week.

After deleting the commercials I only have 21 minutes left. Is that possible? Nine minutes of commercials?
Solid episode this week, but I missed the Abed/Troy ending that we usually get.

In fairness, it is a general cliche of college wannabe songwriters. I laughed hard because it reminded me of a specific person from college.

It's been that way for years (for 1/2-hour shows). That means 1 hour dramas avarage approx 42-43 minutes.

Wow. No one has stopped in to comment on the raw awesomeness of watching a man launch himself out of a wheelchair to win an argument?

I'm going to be very, very disappointed when NBC cancels this show. Best comedy on television.

Jeffrey, as debate coach I am offering you an opportunity to spend the night drinking from the cup of life rather than romancing your nether regions in front of the E! channel.

Annie: Oh! You forgot your phone.
Jeff: Well I can get another one.

I was really glad to see more Annie this week, she is a better character than Britta, IMO. Also MUCH hotter.

At least there will be one full season since they already gave the order for it. Plus it's beating Parks and Rec in numbers too.

Second season ... welllll, that remains to be seen.

"...you middle eastern magic 8 ball!!"
Shirley is awesome.
And Annie really SHOULD wear her hair down more.
I'm just sayin'.
