Annie owns! I'd marry her in a second (I could only hope she'd feel the same.). She's the perfect blend of bat s**t crazy and sexy. Alison Brie FTW!!

Thanks to the movie, "Choke", we can see Gillian Jacobs's truly abundant talent(s).
This was one of the better episodes and yes I agree, Annie is really hot.

Guys, what makes you think I can convince Chang of anything if I can't even convince you not to make me do it?

And you hate Big Bang Theory? Probably somewhat explains the difference in opinion (and if you've seen many of these and still claim to never have seen him, that's a whole other issue altogether but also could be related to your opinion of him).

I came in knowing the guy and loving his work. I would venture to say that most here know him from his work the last two years, making you the rare exception here (his long resume in a short time span proves that it's been difficult to NOT see him over the last two years http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0421822/). Interesting take considering you have no familiarity with him when everyone else does. He was the reason I tuned into the show, like many others who may have tuned in because of Chevy Chase or Joel McHale.

He's not a trained actor per se, just a real MD doctor turned comedian now I guess turned actor.

He's a *character* actor (by no means a lead actor) and he does his characters well in previous and current roles. And IMHO, he is missed when he does not appear in an ep here. We agree to disagree.

I don't have a dog in this fight, and I know it's a tad late to post but, Why the hostility here? I have NOT seen any of the films you posted either. I had not seen him before Community. I AM PROOF that someone in the USA has not seen any of those shows. So? So?

I found him off putting in his first episode as well, but find him okay in his followup appearances. His "self imposed racism" role in his first episode seemed way too over the top - NO MATTER WHO THE ACTOR WAS!!! Since then, the role has grown more and I like him just fine.

So someone did not agree with you?! So? Life goes on. I find the show itself pretty dang good and see it evolving into a great ensemble sitcom. Even Jeong who has grown on me. Why the attack comments on someone who did not like him. Everyone has a right to their opinion. Even you!

They had an injoke about that this week. When Jeff And Chang are coming out of the classroom you can hear them laughing about Cherry Daiquiri, which was her stripper name in the movie.

Cherry Daiquiri:

No episode next week. Rats! Stupid Thanksgiving.

That line, along with the groups reaction to it, was great. I hope this show can make it to a second season, it's really hit it's stride since the first episode or two.

A man reaches a point in his life where he stops looking for a place to hang his underwear and starts looking for a place to hang his hat. ... Here's to being better men. So, could I borrow two hundred bucks? ... College. The best years of our lives.

one of the strongest eps of the season

I like this show more every week (same with Parks and Rec). Very funny. My favorite part were all of the 'names' in Jeff's phone. In fact, now that I think about it, NBC has managed to put together a two hour block of great programming (considering that The Office and 30 Rock follow).
Jeff and Britta are starting to remind me of "Groundhog Day." Every day Jeff makes the same dumb mistakes, but he does get a tiny bit smarter each time. Changing Hot Blonde in Spanish Class to Britta was another little step for him. And it was great the way Doreen helped him. But Abed misunderstanding the message he was supposed to broadcast. Priceless!
This week we have New Jeff. 'Sup? Now Jeff is a team player who defends his friends, he wears the team bracelet and wants to attend the team party. Everybody likes Jeff, they want him on the team, they want to support him at the fight, and they want him at the party. Everybody except Shirley.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. It was a fantastic episode, as ususal.

Merry semester and happy next one!
I LMAO at Chevy's "incense holder".
Britta bumped Pierce back to level 4 just by asking the question. And then at the party Britta brought what she believes in. Nothing.

I'm watching it all again. It's amazing how good it is.

Jeff: Alright everybody. I want to say something. Sit down. You know what makes humans different from other animals? We're the only species on Earth that observes Shark Week. Sharks don't even observe Shark Week but we do. For the same reason I can pick up this pencil tell you its name is Steve and go like this [breaks pencil] and part of you dies just a little bit on the inside because people can connect with anything. We can sympathize with a pencil, we can forgive a shark and we can give Ben Affleck an Academy Award for screenwriting. People can find the good in just about anything but themselves. Look at me. It's clear to all of you that I am awesome but I can never admit that because that would make me an ass. But what I can do is see what makes Annie awesome. She's driven. We need driven people or the lights go out and the ice cream melts. And Pierce. We need guys like Pierce. This guy has wisdom to offer. We should listen to him sometime. We wouldn't regret it. And Shirley. Shirley has earned our respect. Not as a wife, not as a mother, but as a woman. And don't test her on that because that thing about the jukebox was way too specific to be improvised. And Troy. Who cares if Troy thinks he's all that? Maybe he is. Do you think astronauts go to the Moon because they hate oxygen? No. They're trying to impress their high school's prom king. And Abed. Abed's a shaman. You ask him to pass the salt he gives you a bowl of soup because you know what? Soup is better. Abed is better. You are all better than you think you are. You were just designed not to believe it when you hear it from yourself. I want you to look to the person to your left. Sorry, look at the person sitting next to you. I want you to extend to that person the same compassion that you extend to sharks, pencils and Ben Affleck. I want you to say to that person I forgive you. Pierce, I'd like you say I forgive you. You've just stopped being a study group. You've become something unstoppable. I hereby pronounce you a community. I agree with Abed that tonight has been very special. And now if you'll excuse me I have a dinner engagement with Britta. Britta?

Britta: I lied. Thanks for calming everyone down, but since you're not a Spanish tutor and just a lying creep who purposely upset everyone in an attempt to get with me I'd appreciate it if you left and stopped wasting all of our time. Everybody ready?

Anybody still here?

All episodes are on Hulu.
Plus a few great behind-the-scenes looks at the show including clips from a table read and the full "Gettin' Rid of Britta" song!

So ...

I thought this week was the worst episode of the entire run. The stunt casting of Jack Black made this spectacularly unfunny.

The cast is already funny and quirky enough and Black just gave them less opportunity to be that, while he pushed his own music schtick which I've seen a thousand times now.

The only parts of this episode which worked for me were the surprise cameo at the end, the MASH credit and the usual Abed/Troy improv.

If it gets more viewers because of Black, well I guess that's a good thing, but if I hadn't seen the show before I don't think I'd watch it based on this one.
I thought it was a great episode and Jack Black just was thrown in there but somehow fit right in. I liked how they made it seem like he had always been there. As far as guest rolls go I thought it worked out fine. Funny episode!
The lack of outdoor shots was also disappointing. They lost the visually interesting background that made it like a movie and just stayed in the library and a couple of other indoor locations like an ordinary sitcom.

But, if you watch it again, and skip over the Jack Black stuff, it still has signs of the greatness that was once there and will be again.

Abed spoke directly to Jeff instead of asking Britta to do it for him as he had done before. That was significant and even a little emotional.

It was so ironic that Jeff had enough self-awareness to know that he was an uptight jerk last semester, but not enough self-awareness to know that he has changed since then. Still some clever writing, and I love the characters more than ever.

I agree with you. Bottom line is I laughed. Too much shark jump watching on the Internet.

I thought last night's episode was the one of the funniest of the season. The scene when Jack threw a fit I could not stop laughing.
The show was very clever in everything that DIDN'T involve Jack Black speaking. He was completely awkward and lacked any real timing or rapport with the rest of the cast.

I know they were trying to make it seem like that was part of his character but it just dragged what normally would have been a great episode down.

Good observation.

"I'm sure you guys have a natural rapport and timing, and you're scared that adding a new member might throw everything off of its natural -- CUT TO TITLE SEQUENCE -- rhythm."

They were actually making fun of the network executives who think this is the best way to make use of stunt casting.

I agree it felt like half an episode. They had to rush through the real part of the episode to make way for Jack Black and the product placements in the other half. They inserted a reference to tax audits to lead the way for the tax preparation commercial that followed.

It was the highest rated show on NBC last night, which isn't saying much, but they beat a new episode of P&R and both new episodes of 30 Rock.

Ah, yeah I forgot about that opening. That was a nice bit of self-referential comedy.

Watched it again earlier today and I think you're right, this may be one of the funniest eps yet. Seems that folks that have issues with JB will have issues with the ep. Yes, the TurboTax stuff was lame, but luckily you can spot it for what it is and FF past it. Hopefully everyone uses a DVR these days.

I almost had a spit take after I heard that.

Nope. I have no problem with Jack Black. I've seen a lot of his movies, listened to Tenacious D albums, laughed at a lot of his jokes.

For me he brought nothing to Community apart from ratings. He wasn't needed for laughs and what he did do was his usual stuff which didn't fit in and wasn't that funny. He would have been better used as a five minute cameo scene and gave the rest of the show back to the cast to do their thing.

I went to the community college campus where they film Community in LA.

What a freaking dive. It looks terrible in person. They really do an impressive job on TV making it look like a decent place to go to school (for Community College standards).
