'It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia' on FX HD - Page 2

Sorry, in my opinion this was the first UNFUNNY episode. The writing was great, acting was good, but the subject matter was just too painful/unfunny. I have a good well paying job, and even just got a raise, the "Great Recession" is hurting too many families.

The humor was that it's extremely unlikely that there will be a "nouveau poor" class (a clever twist on the term "nouveau rich") who will be parking their expensive Winnebagos on streets to create shanty towns like a scene from an updated version of Grapes of Wrath.

Unemployment hit 25% in my town the year I graduated from high school. Maybe I'm familiar enough with unemployment to laugh at it.

I was laughing throughout this as well. I thought it was the best of the season so far.

Anyone remember a show called "Good Times"? It was a ground breaking sitcom about a poor family living the projects in Chicago. You'll never see a show like it ever again because these days too many people would complain that the show is making fun of poor people.

When Chris Rock wanted Everybody Hates Chris to be about a struggling lower-middle class family in Bed-Stuy, the network required that the show not depict any unemployment in the family or anything that would indict the family isn't doing quite well, because you can't have comedies about poor people. That's why Julius always has at least two jobs and (his mom often has another) and they only talk about being poor even though they obviously aren't. Networks can't be accused of trivializing the plight of the poor.

I hope the new episode tonight is funnier than last week's.

Yeah, the gang is back...great writing, funny jokes and that real off-beat acting. Definite improvement over last weeks episode.

I nearly pulled something laughing so hard when they were salting the snail.

I was happy to see the new season in widescreen, even if it isn't hidef.

I'm loving the new season.

"This guy in a cardboard box is going to get us rich?"

The whole new season has been really good in my opinion. The first episode wasn't great, but the last few have been.

They tell the interventionist to bring a gun to the intervention, classic.

And having an intervention in a bar isn't such a good idea.

Not knowing what an intervention is is less of one.

I haven't laughed that hard and prolonged in a while. So good.

That whole episode was full of great conversations. "Milk Steak and your finest jelly beans. Raw" and the whole cheese conversation had me LOLing.

Same with Charlie's profile making (His hobbies are "magnets" and dislikes are "people's knees") and the hornet's nest as well: "actually there is some very basic science that says hornets don't make honey" and Charlie tearing the hive apart anyways because there might be something delicious in there.

Good stuff. I am laughing just typing that even though I know I don't have the quotes exactly correct.

Yet again, Dee fluctuates wildly between hot and not (mostly not in this episode). She's like that chick in Seinfeld that only looked good in certain light.

Oh, and the previews for next week with look great as well.

Can't wait.

Just rewatched the ep and forgot the funniest part: Them telling Charlie to "make a move" and he lunges across the table at her. Great stuff.

So its just a widescreen version that's upconverted to 720p?

Note the overall softness of the picture, the ringing from excessive detail enhancement, the chroma issues along the edges of skin, and the black line at the top of the picture. Unquestionably upconverted SD. Put it side by side with a screenshot of real HD from FX, say Sons of Anarchy, and the differences will be even more obvious.

Haven't we already known it isn't in HD... why do we constantly need people trying to 'prove' it.

Regardless, HD or not, it is still extremely funny!

Great episode, Charlie really stole the show. Either Charlie is the best writer/actor ever or this guy is really mentally sick.

Another subtle clue is that FX doesn't claim it's in HD.

Wow, freaking hilarious episode tonight. Awesome.

Another good episode. I'm loving this season.

How lucky are they? The Phillies are going to the World Series again, so now they can have a sequel to this episode next year.

Another good show ...... if only FX will spring for HD next season.
