john -- like I just said above, "ideally" you want the heights to be as 45-degrees elevation and also 45-degree spread.
that being said -- we ALL have compromises and very few people can actually achieve an "ideal" setup! Do the best you can and Audyssey MultEQ will balance and level the speakers and I'm sure it will sound great
The one thing you should NOT do is compromise the front speakers for the heights. The front speakers are still MUCH more important than the heights so don't move the fronts just because you can't place the heights at the ideal spot.
BTW -- the 30-degree recommendation for the Front L/R is only with DSX if you have "wides". I think if you don't have wide speakers you should spread the fronts out wider or you will really restrict the width of the soundstage.
