I don't think there is a THX mode for wides or heights for that matter.
Surely there will be at some point.
Can you say firmware upgrade

On my 807 in a height setup, I was able to run THX Cinema and PLIIz

Here is a question to all x007 owners. I currently have the Yamaha 3900 which I love, however it has a very annoying problem which is making look to the 3007 as a replacement. I have a Motorola (Verizon FIOS) HD-DVR hooked into the Yamaha, and my HDTV is a Sony SXRD rear projection unit. Every time I turn off the TV, and then turn it back on, the default output resolution of the DVR defaults back to 480p; very annoying! To see more details look at my comments on this receiver at Amazon.com.

Has any x007 owner who might have a Motorola DVR noticed this problem?

Regards,
Brian

Just a note for anyone that was disappointed in missing the sale on the 1007 and 3007 AVRs last weeked on Newegg.

Both receivers are back with $495 off. They're on backorder, but if you don't need it 'right-now' it's a tempting price.

newegg's definition of 'backorder' varies. i ordered a 3007 on sept 26, received it oct 1 (go go free ground shipping)

Just pre-ordered the 3007.

Hopefully this unit will perform on par with the Yamaha 3900 and improve upon the two annoying flaws of the 3900.

If I read New Egg's return policy, I have 30 days to try this out (sans a restocking fee).

I'm hoping...

What are the two annoying flaws on the 3900 to you?

Looking at these Onkyos, the 1007 really seems like the sweet spot.

I'm waiting to see some HQV Reon feedback from Winston in his charts.

The only difference I see between the 5007 and 3007 that might mean anything to me would be the 5007 having a 32 bit DAC, which is pretty unusual. Other than that, the 5007 would be vast overkill for me personally.

1) Connection with my Motorola HD-DVR causes the output to reset to 480p every time I turn off the HDTV.

2) The HDMI Output 1+2 does not work (I can't drive both my Sony HDV and Panasonic AE2000 projector at the same time)

I've seen complaints about Motorola (and other breeds) boxes with all kinds of equipment. 9/10 times at least I'll blame the cable or satellite hardware/software over anything else. At least that's been my experience. YMMV

That's strange. Did you ever contact Yamaha about that? What did they say?

Normally I would agree with you concerning the Motorola box, however I did not have this problem with my older Yamaha 1800 receiver (Same DVR)

Don't get me wrong. I'm not doubting your word nor am I trying to talk you out of buying whatever you want. I just have this bad vision of seeing you buying a new receiver and maybe still seeing that problem with the Motorola box.

But maybe not. I hope it all works out.

Based on all the great comments I received a 5007 last evening still setting up, not sure which thread to post on for this will keep hunting this is quite a beast.

I've read the manual but can't figure this out: Does this receiver apply Audyssey processing and treat each sub as an individual entity so each sub would have different results?..i hope so...the Denon 4810 doesn't.
Thanks for any replies.
From what I read that is supposed to be the case. I hope so cause that was one feature I was looking forward to. Still waiting on mine to arrive.

FYI -- the 1007 is on sale at NewEgg again for $999. It's backordered, but should ship on the 5th it says.

Is Newegg an authorized Onkyo dealer?
I'm gonna give it a try- just ordered. Someone needs to buy my Marantz SR6003 now....

I figured out my display issue on my HTPC, under display, there is an option for under/over scan, seems it was set down, once I put it back on 0 I was full screen again.

Now I've got another question, I've got a Pioneer CT-W616 Tape Deck that used to be remote controlable via my old VSX-505s, it doesn't have an IR sensor just the Pioneer version of RI. Can I get this to work with the Onkyo? I've also got a Pioneer 100 Disc Changer that I can link with the Pioneer RI thing, but I'm pretty sure the Changer won't forward those commands to the tape deck. Let me know if anyone may have a solution to this.

Also, how can you get Net to zone2/3 without having it on in the main room? I can only get it to work by going to whatever stream I want on the main room, then selecting source on the zone 2 room. As soon as I hit another source in the main room, it changes the zone 2 of course.

So, is everyone happy with the sound quality of this unit? I will be coming from the Marantz SR6003 which sounds great.

Updated video processing post on first page of thread; Marantz SR6004 lacks the ability to upscale/process digital sources. I did show the results for my kuro.

I'm waiting on the 1007 from the egg, replacing a Denon 2809ci. I have a question regarding speaker placement for the "heights." All the references state to have them placed at a 45 degree angle from the listening position. Would it make a difference to have the height positions reversed with the Left & Right speakers?, i.e., have the heights located inside the Left and Right channels verses outside and above them? Example:

Center = 0 degrees
Left & Right = 45 degrees and 135 degrees
R & L Heights = 30 degrees and 120 degrees (and 8' above the floor)

My current setup is giving me problems following the recommended setup. So, if I do this as describe above, will it sound "out of balance" or awkward?

I'd like to have everything in place when it arrives so all i have to do is connect the banana plugs and go. has anyone tried this setup?

john

This is how I have mine setup.

I have not received my 1007 as of yet, sometime this week. I will let you know how it sounds once I get it hooked up

I am excited for you homank.

Homank76,

This is almost exactly how my speaker setup looks. Please do post your results.

homank -- pretty setup looks great, is that a local speaker brand?

if you are able to move the speakers though, your "height" speakers would benefit from going even higher and definitely should be wide. I think PLIIz recommends that the "heights" be directly above the fronts, and DSX recommends they be at 45-degrees.

john -- like I just said above, "ideally" you want the heights to be as 45-degrees elevation and also 45-degree spread.

that being said -- we ALL have compromises and very few people can actually achieve an "ideal" setup! Do the best you can and Audyssey MultEQ will balance and level the speakers and I'm sure it will sound great

The one thing you should NOT do is compromise the front speakers for the heights. The front speakers are still MUCH more important than the heights so don't move the fronts just because you can't place the heights at the ideal spot.

BTW -- the 30-degree recommendation for the Front L/R is only with DSX if you have "wides". I think if you don't have wide speakers you should spread the fronts out wider or you will really restrict the width of the soundstage.

Thank you.

The speakers are the new Yamaha 700 series. I love the way they sound.

Just received the BEAST. I don't know to frame it or to hook it up? Once I get home I will take pictures compared to my 575, this thing is a monster and is like 1/3 bigger than it.

Can't wait till I get to hook it up tonight.

My Blue Jean cables came today as well.

Here are some pictures comparing the new to old.
