Mitsu wd52631 - no power

post #1 of 17

Figures this would happen at the start of the NFL season!

My Mitsubishi DLP worked fine two nights ago. Yesterday I went to power it on, and nothing. No blinking lights, no red lamp light... nada. I hit the system reset, and there was a click, and the timer light blinked for 90 seconds. I pressed power and still nada.

Unplugged it, pressed power for 60 seconds. Plugged it in, and after 90 sec blinking light, I hit power - nothing.

I tried system reset a few times, without luck. So I sat down to start researching online what could be going on. After about 30 min I heard a *click* sound from the TV. I pushed power on the set and the first time nothing. The second try turned on the TV. Holy crap!

I tried to go to the Input screen to switch from Satellite to Game, and no matter what button on the set was pushed, the main menu (setup) came up - EVEN the volume and channel buttons. Mysteriously after like 15 min they magically worked, and then quickly (MAYBE 5 minutes later) went back to taking me to the Menu.

I tried from the remote, but the TV did not respond to it at all. On the remote each button caused the remote to blink. I swapped batteries on that, but still nothing.

I kept the TV on for about an hour and a half, but had to turn it off. I could not just leave it running all day. Well pressing power did no good (brought up Menu screen), so I had to do System Reset.

After a minute I tried to power it back on, and it will not respond.

I have tried the following:

1) Unplugged for 20 min. Plugged in and pressed System Reset, then Power = no workie.

2) Unplugged for 30 min. Pressed and held Power button for 60 seconds. Plugged in. Hit power = no workie.

3) Carefully removed lamp chasis, and removed the dust from the small airflow screen ( not that much there). Installed again. Plugged in. Hit power = no workie.

4)Unplugged for 5 min. Held in System Reset Button. Plugged in. Hit power= no workie.

5) Unplugged ALL NIGHT. Plugged in. Held Power button for 60 seconds. Hit power again = no workie.

I'm at a loss here. The lamp is fine. No indicator light is on for it, and when it did come on yesterday, the picture was perfect. My set sits on a platform and has very good air circulation all around it.

Anyone have any ideas? I tried calling Mitsubishi, and they said that I tried all that they tell customers to do. They gave me a service company to call, and when I spoke to them, they were going to charge me $100 to just look at it.

I have seen posts of the blinking light of death, and this is not what is going on. The link only blinks when the TV is plugged in, or when I hit System Reset.

What a nightmare! Warranty is out, so I'm stuck with a big 52" brick!

Help?

Thanks in advance!

Well tried something else. Unplugged all components from the TV. I'm trying just about anything. Anyway, same result. Still no power. I also have it plugged directly into the wall now. I did have it plugged into my surge protector. I may run one of my heavy duty extension cords to another outlet to see if this does anything.

Try to get it back to after the initialization finishes (blinking light stops flashing) and you press Power.
What happens?
Any relay or fan noise?
What color are the leds on front panel?
Are they solid or flashing?

Now, don't unplug it. On the front panel press and hold MENU & INPUT for about 10 seconds. There should be a led on the front that starts blinking. It should blink a two digit error code over and over, like:
12= no error
32= lamp door
36= ballast
37= dmd fan
and lots more codes.

Nothing happens.

Any relay or fan noise?
A click when it is plugged in, or when System Reset is pressed - I assume that's the relay.

Only the green light flashes when it is plugged in, and when System Reset is pressed. Otherwise no lights.

Now, don't unplug it. On the front panel press and hold MENU & INPUT for about 10 seconds. There should be a led on the front that starts blinking. It should blink a two digit error code over and over, like:
12= no error
32= lamp door
36= ballast

and lots more codes.

How about that... 1 - small pause 2 pause (12?). Timer light (green) gave me that about 5 times. "No error"?? This is crazy.

Tv will not give any error code (except 12) if it doesn't do anything when you press power. It must attempt to start up three times, then go into shutdown, then will give an error code.

You may have a stuck tac switch on the front panel button board. You can test this by unplugging connector LE1 on the terminal board: Unplug Tv, remove back cover, unplug LE1 from atop terminal board, tape lamp door switch down and plug in Tv, wait 90 sec to complete initialization (you won't see the light on the front blinking because it's disconnected), use remote to turn on Tv and check functions.

I will give that a shot this evening. After doing this, and after the TV comes on, should I unplug and put everything back together? Just wondering if this would remedy the problem.

Thanks for helping with this!

Checking in... haven't been able to take apart the back of the TV yet. Gonna try by the weekend.

*fingers crossed*

Eureka! That is what it was. I disconnected the LE1 and the damn thing fired right up.

I tried to see if it would then power up with LE1 plugged back in, and nope. So I disconnected it once more. Now at this point can the TV be operated this way, or do I need to replace the TAC switch before using the TV?

Thanks again for the help!!

Nice! Sure, you can just use the remote for all functions. You will just not have any front panel buttons. You can also get the board for very cheap...

Good to know! You have no idea how happy I am to see the NFL in hi-def again! LOL

So what part will I need to look for. Is it just a TAC switch or is there more to it that I will look for? Is there a parts list?

Thank you so much!!!

I tried this same trick on my wd-52631 and it worked. Took maybe half an hour tops and cost nothing. Guess the internet is good for something after all. thanks guys.

Disabling the front panel fixed my power up problems also on a WD52631.
Shame these MIT DLP are so junky.
Thank you Hammer.

My 52631 has sat for a year and a half, and for some reason I searched this thread again and saw the front panel LED fix. Twenty minutes later and I'm watching tv. Thanks.

Thought for sure my bulb was dead on my wd52631. Checked this forum for the hell of it, did the LE1 fix and voila, back up and running! Thanks!
