soundbar for clearly audible dialogue...

I'm looking to get a soundbar for my display. I currently just have the two speakers on the sides that my plasma came with, and run everything that I watch as 2 channel audio.

I'm not interested in adding a receiver or surround sound, it's not really my thing personally. The only thing I want is something that is going to make it so that the voices and dialogue when I watch movies is EASY to hear, instead of having to max out the volume to hear them speaking, and then having my ear drums blown when an explosion happens.

I read some good reviews about the boston accoustics TVEE soundbar, being that it is just a simple 2 channel setup, it sounded appealing to me. But the reviews all also mentioned that as a potential down side because more and more soundbars are coming out with the ability to artificially reproduce HD surround sound.

However I thought that maybe the simplicity of it would make it fit my specific need better than something that simulates complete surround sound.

Anyone have any thoughts or personal experience with the TVEE unit, or similar setups/situations?

I am not up to date on soundbar tech, but for best chances at dialogue intelligibility, vertically arrayed drivers are best. So a pair of bookshelves would be good, at ear level.

It seems that most, if not all, of the HT soundtracks are the same ones designed for the theaters, which is for reference level.

You can try putting DRC at a maximum wherever you find it, as a cheap possible solution, or perhaps a receiver with Audyssey dyn volume and eq. Sure, you're thinking you don't need the other 5, or even 7, amp channels, but it's the technology that would be the primary reason to buy such a receiver.

Just my off the cuff thoughts.
