What to do, Please HELP! Broken screws on back of TV.

Thread Starter
I was mounting my 53 inch LCD on my wall today and I was screwing the brackets into the back of the TV and I used 4 screws that were slightly bigger (thicker) Than the ones that came with the bracket, I had lost them a few months ago, so I purchased 4 new ones (home depot) that are slightly thicker and I thought it wouldn't be a problem, so when I screwed then brackets in everything went well, the screws fit perfectly and I gues made the holes a little bigger, then I took the screws out of one side to adjust the brackets to make it a little higher, and the screws wouldn't back out so I used some force and I not only pulled out the screws but i pulled out the female part were the screw actually screws into on the back of the TV. Now I can not screw the bracket into the TV cause the female part is in my hands, what do I do. If I could and it was easy I would open up my LCD TV and put back the female part where the screws go into and maybe some how use washers to keep them into place? Cause it also took out the plastic that held it into place. Not sure if it's easy to open up a LCD TV, I don't want to screw any thing up. Does this mean I have to keep the TV on a stand and can not hang the set up on the wall????? PLEASE HELP.

Even if you somehow manage to rig it together, it'll never be as strong as it was before you broke it. Put it on a stand, as your options are rather limited.

i hate to say it, but you're screwed. you should NOT have used a different screw. you could have found the right screw if you just bought a few and tested them by trying each one. once you had resistance you should have stopped and tried another one. a normal fitting screw does not give resistance.

the only thing you can do now is contact the manufacturer and see if you can order the whole back panel. actually you might not even be able to, if the screw holes were part of the interior of the set.

Man, I came on this site to ask the same question.
Except in my case, i'm remounting a tv that was mounted preivously in my old place, and now I'm looking to remount in my new place.
except instead of pulling the female part out, the plastic piece that held the entire female piece on the inside of the tv somehow broke off from the inside of the back panel and dropped to the bottom of the TV. I had to pull the stand off to get it out.

I guess I'm totally screwed now too?

Inside of the hole is supposed to look like this:

Now it looks like this:

The broken piece shown. As you can see, this femail piece is usually screwed into the back panel...but the part that is holding it onto the back panel snapped somehow...

Anyone figure something out for this yet?

Looks like some kind of dowel to place a screw onto a soft material.

Don't know what to tell ya. Epoxy the female part in? This is one of those thing I can't say unless am looking live and touching it. Nothing that a manly-man cannot handle smile.gif after all it's just a mechanical thingy right.

Your problem is quite simple i just need to take a look at the tv to provide the most secure option
