HDMI over CAT6

Hello again all

This post is to comment on Tripplite's HDMI over CAT 5/6 wall plate extender. It works perfectly AS LONG AS YOU DO NOT GO THROUGH AN AVR. I have talked to their customer support for hours only for them to tell me that my Denon 1910 is the problem.. HAHA ok? To make me happy they are sending me their powered HDMI over CAT5/6. I will update the post to let everyone know if this works.... That is if anyone cares?

Also, the run I am making is 55ft via shielded cat6 wire.

I'd be interested to here how you get on plus a few more details on your system set up as a posted a similar question on here a couple of days back:

You know the funny about the HDMI over CAT6 is that everyone talks about it but you never see any solid feedback posted online. Everyone I ask says - "Oh yea, that's done all the time" .... Really, then hows is everyone doing it then buddy? I have spent hours searching through Google to only end up with only a larger question mark over my head.

However, you call the companies that produce these hdmi over cat6 products and they will swear up and down that their product works. Haha, but there's also one more twist to my pickle... Both companies say their product works but one is $30.00 and one is $500.00. So either I am paying for what I am getting or I am grabbing my ankles? Who knows...

My system is simple -
Denon 1910 with the HDMI to a 42" Phillips over a fireplace.
Sony BDP-S350 Bluray player
X-Box with component cables
Atlantic HD DVR

7.1 Audio -
Definitive Technologies Mythos 5 towers and Mythos 7 center.
The Speaker Company (TSC) Dipole surrounds
Monoprice in-ceiling rears.
Polk PSW-505 Sub.

I have been using a Laird Telemedia system to distribute HD DVR and HD satellite throughout my house. I use a four port hub feeding four HDMI recievers and they have worked without any glitches for about four months now.

When HDMI gets distributed over cat 5 then does the audio signal also get transmitted.

The reason why I ask is that on the net you see a lot of baluns that just have HDMI ins and outs. But I have seen that Octava baluns have optical audio ins and outs on their baluns.

PGamp100:

The wall plates I used transmitted the audio and video over the cat6. I think the optical in/out may be an added option... However, I would find out for sure.

Also, I am not an A/V pro by any means. I am just a DIY'ER that's in way over his head lol.

AV Doogie:

Thanks for the feedback, and I will keep this in mind... Did some pricing and the single HDMI out SYSTEM (you need both the receiver and the transmitter) from Laird Telemedia is around 500. Dam... I am going to have to work some overtime! but at least it works...

The only difference I am noticing AV Doogie is that you are running your receivers after the transmitter...

I have the Octava baluns but I haven't tried using the optical ports on them yet. Presumably the balun does allow for the audio to be seperated from the HDMI signal, but the HDMI definitely retains the audio when not using the optical ports. I have had zero issues with these baluns so far (also connected to a 4x4 Octava matrix switch), but haven't hooked in the 7.1 surround system yet (this weekend's fun!). So far though everything has worked flawlessly over 60 and 100 foot cat6 runs.

I'd definitely recommend Octava though - I had several questions before I bought and they were very helpful. I also had an issue after I hooked up the matrix and they, again, helped me out (turned out to be stupid user error on my part thankfully). Finally, with the way I'm setting things up I really needed an extra transmitter balun and they sent me one for shipping cost only!!! Granted I had just dropped 1,000 on their new 4x4 CAT5/6 matrix, but this was well above and beyond any expectation I had. I would certainly recommend these guys to anyone. If things don't work - their warranty is awesome (30 days if things just don't work with your equipment and then 1 year on parts etc.)
