:::Which surround will take 2.1 audio to 5.1::?

Hey guys,

Before I buy a receiver.. Is there a surround technology, or effect that will take 2 channel audio source and simulate a believable 5.1 surround, and NOT just a echo?

Thanks for any responses

most surround sound receivers will do an extrapolated/simulated surround sound that sound very nice. I'm a fan of Onkyo and Denon AVR's myself.

I think the standard Pro Logic and DTS modes do a very good job also different makes will come with their own added versions. HK is noted for Logic 7 which many rave about.

Of course this has to do with the source material also. If it's not good coming in it's not going to be good going out.

I don't think there is an AVR maker that doesn't have that feature. Not sure if any of them will do that with 2 channel analog sources - just digital sources and 6-8 channel analog from a DVD or BluRay player.

I have an Emotiva LMC-1 AVP that converts music to DD and DTS quite well. And a bedroom unit - an HK 247 that sounds good as well in surround mode for music. Neither will convert it from 2 channel analog.
