Hi Everyone,
I just got a rear projection tv Mitsubishi WS-55411 Medallion HD1080i. I turned on the set and it looks pretty good. I played around with the convergence settings and the color balance etc. The one thing I noticed right away is the overscan or picture cropping that happens. I'm estimating around 5% of the picture left and right gets cut off. About 3% up and down. I looked everywhere and couldn't find any controls that would seem to help the overscanning. I tried with AV cords as well as the Component cords and both inputs have the overscanning. Also, the picture seems a little low on the centering.
I contacted a local theater room shop and the guy there told me to mess around with the format button on the remote (cycles between zoomed, stretched, standard, etc views) and that of course did nothing.
So here are my questions:
1. Would getting into the "service menu" get me some controls that can fix the overscanning? How can I get into the service menu?
2. I can't seem to find a tv calibration service that can answer my question of fixing overscanning. I noticed that Best Buy's Geek Squad offers TV Calibration. Are they a good vendor for fixing overscanning? I don't care as much about the picture settings as the overscanning.
3. Is there a dtv tuner that has allows horizontal and vertical picture adjustment so that I can just plug everything through that? I was thinking if I can get a dtv tuner that has adjustments that allow to shrink the picture to size of the tv, that would work also.
Thank you so much in advanced,
Tim
