i picked up the wireless version on weds, and i must say i am very pleased, it has played everything so far that i have thrown at it, the PQ is better than the samsung 1600 i had previous. i replaced the 1600 with an lg, and replaced the lg with this player a few days later and am not sorry

returned my wired model...to pick it up again with the free BR .

was all set to pick up the Superman Returns BR, when I saw the online offerings of Watchmen or Transformers 2. CLEARLY much better. Picking up Watchmen for free now removes an item from my wish list.

FYI, i loved my unit before i took it back. the only issues:

1. would ask me to connect to the network every once out of 5 times(roughly) i'd start the unit

2. when pausing a BR or dvd disc, would take SEVERAL seconds to unpause.

For $99 with netflix, i can certainly live with these issues. I expect the connection issuse will be taken care of with an update anyway.

I usually avoid off-brands, but I paid with my AMEX giving me an additional year's warranty. If this player dies after 2 years, I'll just grab a sony or panny BR player for $39

Where are you seeing Watchmen/Transformers?

Is it from Best Buy?

Online it shows Beetlejuice or Superman Returns...not Star Trek or TF2 though.

darkthrone,
So I just go to CS and show my receipt which shows purchase in the last 30 days and get credit for the blu-ray???

I plan on it in a few minutes.

The wired version is now back to $149. Wireless is $199. YMMV at local stores - some people report the $99 still available at some places today, but not at mine.

GizmoDVD,
Let me know how it goes. I'd hate to waste a drive to find it is a no go.

I picked up the wireless version the other day and am pleasantly impressed with it. I was really reluctant to go with a 2nd Tier brand, but at $129 with wifi built-in, it was hard to pass up over the Samsung P1600 for me.

Setup was a breeze and so was updating the firmware...

PQ is great with BR and DVD....

Wifi and streaming Netflix without a disc (unlike on my PS3) is a big plus for an inexpensive BR player in the bedroom.

Liked the wireless version so much that i got for $116 on wed, that i went back and they had 1 wired one left for $99 at 1pm, no wireless model left, hooked it up in my "man cave" using a Optoma HD-70 PJ and a 92" screen, decent PQ, i have a wired connection down there so the wireless is great for my living room upstairs.
Maybe it's time to retire the A2.................

HD netlix streaming is great, non-hd is pixelated, more watchable on the 50" panny plaz upstairs, reminds me more of watching a VCD back in the day.

I have the wireless one. I updated the firmware 2 days ago. I loaded a USB drive with pictures I took off my camera. It will not play the AVI file that was included. It says invalid format. As I said, I got the firmware 3 days ago.
When i first got the wireless one and hooked it up Thurs, before i did the update it would NOT play .avi either on usb or disc, after the update that came out wed it now plays .avi and .mkv/.264 files fine.

Your camera's .avi resolution may not be compatable.
I have a Fuji camera. Perhaps that is the problem.
Could I plug in a USB turntable and play albums through this player?
I love the idea, but no, it will not play the phono through the digital USB outlet.

But if you converted your phono files onto a USB stick, in wav. format.
That should work just fine.

Right?

You know what, shwru980r, I'm curious as to what would happen. Why don't you connect it up and see what happens?

GizmoDVD,
Is this offer good tomorrow, or does it end tonight.

End tonight

Thanks for putting the fire under my pants, GizmoDVD.

I got there just before closing and CS had to do a complete return, rebuy
to get me the Beetlejuice blu-ray. Somebody in this thread mentioned other discs, like
The Watchmen, but I didn't know how to pull that. Just glad I got this one.

i didnt see any other discs than beetlejuice and superman either...those were the only choices at my store
post #443 of 1008
Yeah, there was a huge standee with Beetlejuice and Superman Returns only. Grabbed 1 Beetlejuice and 2 Superman returns (TrueHD versions...worth about $15 resale). Not bad!
Wireless version now a low, low $179!!

Very pleased to have 16:9 pillarbox, playing my old 4:3 dvd/concerts looks horrible stretched.

Not that many players display 4:3 content correctly.

OK guys, I read all 15 pages and was convinced this would be a good purchase at $99 versus $150 for LG/Samsung/Pana.

So I picked one up last Friday mainly for Netflix (missed out on the 1/2 price Roku sale) but while doing so I noticed Java listed on a LG box I think.

Did some digging and liked the sound of this Netcast from LG
Would like to use that for euro/dollar updates and weather forecasts, anybody have any experience with this?

Before you all post that this is the NS-BRDVD3 section, I am doing so because I want your opinion on the NS-BRDVD3 versus LG BD370, especially now the price has dropped to $129 on BB including a BD of choice...

I may just return the NS-BRDVD3 for the LG with Netcast, what has stopped me so far is that the BB site reviews + CNet's is not that great.

Who can chime in with good advice

For the $99 I paid, the NS-BRDVD3 can't be beat (IMO) to break into the Blu-Ray arena. If you want other than Netflix and BD-Live connectivity from the net, you'll need a different unit. Could Insignia build other streaming in with firmware updates - maybe...but from what I've seen they have enough problems fixing issues they created in the previous release, and I read on one forum they don't have a lot of extra memory with which to add much additional firmware code - so maybe they can do it, maybe not. Depends what's important to you "NOW" I guess.

Not sure what this 'Netcast' thing is but the LGs out here in American only have these options:
Netflix
VuDu (BD390)
Cinema Now (download/rent movies like VuDu)
YouTube

That's it. No way to check the weather etc. on those LG players. Maybe the HTIBs?

I haven't tried to connect a usb drive to the blu-ray player yet. But from what i've read it seems like only fat or fat32 formatted drives will work...how come? Why won't ntfs work? Could this be changed in a firmware update?
