You haven't played many Japanese action games, have you. The controls could have been better, but they weren't that bad.

Looks and sounds great! Wish I had a 3d projector for SotC.

Finished it on Sunday (my 4th time through the game -- 1st time in like 7 or 8 years). Apparently if you want to get the "no deaths" trophy, it does allow you to revert to a save point if you die. The only part where that would be a huge pain is that ending portion.

Started SotC last night. The first 5 bosses were easier than I remembered them. I never finished the game on the PS2 because I found the stuttering to be too annoying (plus I got stuck on one colossus).

Whew, started working on that yesterday and made a horribly aimed jump. Good to know I can continue

Need help guys.

I'm stuck on this part of ICO where you have to do this stupid super jump onto a ledge.

For the life of me I can't time it right to super jump onto the ledge

It's at the 7:50 mark of that video.

That little puzzle totally threw me, too, because it wasn't in the original US version of the game (it's one of a small handful of differences between the "unfinished" US version and what the rest of the world got).

Not surprisingly, it's all about timing. If you watch the platform closely, you'll see it ratchets down for a few seconds, pauses for another second, then drops a tiny bit more before shooting upwards. You need to jump right when it does that tiny drop at the end (after the pause). It'll take you a few tries, but once you get the timing sorted, it's really not that hard to get right almost every time.

Just finished replaying SotC. I always had thought that Ico was the more influential game of the two (directly influencing Sands of Time, Twilight Princess, God of War, etc), but playing through SotC five years later, it's clear that it also directly influenced quite a few games this generation--most notably, Assassin's Creed and Demon's Souls. Really surprised me.

You have to start jumping sooner than you think. The full animation includes a crouch before the jump, so you have to hit the jump button early enough so that the actual jump happens as the piston shoots up.

Heads up!

Best Buy deal for $24.99 is still going today, at least on the website. I thought it was done Sunday but apparently not. I did ship to store since all locations near me are out of stock. Got an estimated date of 10/27 for pickup so not too bad for a raincheck. Also GoW Origins and Resistance Dual Pack also still $24.99.

Combine it with the $10 coupon in the Gamer mag and it's only $15.

I had forgotten the special place in hell that was reserved for SOTC's 3rd colossus in hard time attack. I knew I'd beaten it on the PS2, but I'd forgotten just how infuriating it was. It wouldn't be so bad if it were all skill-based, but it seems like it's about 20% skill, 80% luck on that particular one due to all the unstable footing and thrashing on the vitals.

I was beating my head against that one for hours across multiple sessions on the PS3 version, looking up videos of different strategies and putting them into practice. I'd do the sword leap, find the most stable stabbing spots, and do the little trick to get the left arm raised, but every time the stars seemed to be aligning, I'd get nailed with some inexcusable B.S. like falling off the head when I had R1 fully depressed and plenty of grip left, or tons of random thrashing that I'd normally never see.

I got very close to the goal a handful of times, missing it by less than 2 seconds once. Then, on a total fluke, I finally caught every possible break I could, and I suddenly beat the target time by over 48 seconds. WTF. At least that's over...

If you're a PS Vita owner, a new patch to the Ico/SotC collection adds Remote Play support.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2012/09/05/remote-play-brings-god-of-war-ico-and-shadow-of-the-colossus-collections-to-ps-vita-today/

I might give this a try.

Been wanting to get SOTC for a long time - finally jumped on a sale at Newegg. I've just defeated my 3rd colussus and I have to say I am really disappointed. The controls are really bad, really jerky, and the gameplay is super repetitive. It doesn't feel like a console game, it feels more like a novelty phone game or something, albeit with much better graphics and sound. I'll keep playing, but this seems pretty weak.

Same boat here. This is one of those that was on my shame list of "classic games that I didn't play". After finally playing some of HD re-release, I'll agree that it's an interesting artistic statement, but also frustrating and not very fun to play.

Thanks for your views guys. I think I'll skip it.

They borrowed a lot from Zelda in terms of the overworld, the horse, and a general feel - I wish they would have flat out stolen the controls and camera system!!!
