5 Mps enough for HD from Netflix?

Hi there,
I currently have a 1.5 Mps connection with Embarq. It is enough to stream DVD's to a computer, but HD (Apocalypto) is not watchable. If I use streaming, I want to stream via Roku to my projector using HDMI. Will the 5 Mps connection be good enough for that and will the picture quality be comparable to Blu Ray or HDTV via DirecTV? Will a wired connection be better or is wireless ok for that speed?
Thanks for your help.

It's more the consistency than the speed, I think. I was temporarily using a 3 Mps DSL and found that the dedicated line was fine for regular Roku , and even for the occasional HD movie. I generally use mine through Roku box, but sometimes watch online -- the cable connection has been good for us as well, but even though it's FASTER, sometimes if gets pokey regardless of the 'published' speed. Cable is more susceptible to traffic jams and the like, but as long as you let the movie pre-load it should be fine.

I'd say PQ is on par with a DVD ... not Blu Ray. Never used DirectTV , so can't comment on that part

I need to find the chart again, but that should be enough assuming that is what is truly being delivered by your ISP. It should certainly be enough for the highest quality SD stream.

5 is enough and the hd is 720p over a Roku. Not BD but it is ok.

Wireless works well Roku.

Thanks, artwire and PSound,
I used a speed test and my current promised speed of 1.5 Mps is almost reached with 1.48 Mps download speed. So I assume Embarq will deliver the higher speed, if I pay for it. I seem to recall 4.6 Mps is needed for HD, but I can't find my note. As it is a telephone line, it should be relatively more stable than cable. But to feed it to a projector with a 106" screen makes only sense if it is a good picture. Anybody else tried it?
And how long do you actually buffer it? A few minutes?
Thanks again

Thanks fpconvert,
So it's 720, like Fox and ESPN on DirecTv. That is also my projector's native resolution.
Good to know.
Thanks again.

The buffering does not take long for me (maybe 20 seconds) but I have a pretty nice connection. I have my 360 connected wireless (802.11n) and have zero issues with getting the highest Netflix quality.

As far as your screen size... my experience is that Netflix HD is better than DVD. If DVD is acceptable on your screen, then Netflix HD should be too.
