I wonder if there's gonna be a separate RS35/HD990 thread? (I would assume so)

Just got my RS25. Still in the box (GASP) as I work on my ceiling mount options and screen. Part of an extensive overhaul of the basement. I'm awaiting delivery of the anamorphic lens from AV Science, too.

So no sexy images yet.

Mine will be here shortly following Jason's expert calibration.

Agreed, I looking for feedback. On the fence right now myself debating RS10 upgrade.

Congrats on your new pj. The remote pictured here looks different than the remote in Jason's review. Does your remote have a THX mode button on it?

The manual basically recommends other non THX modes for best performance. Read the manual.

Don’t get excited though – I’m just a newb..

Here are my impressions:

I upgraded from a BenQ 8720 so this is my first 1080p, LCOS, High Contrast projector.
My main fear was losing the "wow" and "pop" by switching from DLP to LCOS.
When I upgraded from my Panny AE700 to the BenQ I immediately noticed a new amazing level of clarity & vibrancy. I was really hoping not to give that up when switching to the RS25 for increased contrast and a more cinematic experience.

Any single chip DLP owners with this same concern can (in my opinion) lay their fears to rest. I'm still seeing that same level of clarity and vibrancy in the image and it actually looks even richer now due to the contrast boost.

Jason calibrated my projector and the difference in color over my last projector is appreciable.
The one tweak I’d like to make is switching the gamma from Normal to Custom 2.4
This really seems to give the image the “pop” I love but I’m concerned that doing this will negate Jason’s professional work. Would this be true?

So far I’ve only spent 90 minutes with it after setup and that was mostly spent watching parts of the Dark Knight and playing around with my PS3 and 360. You can really tell the difference between 720p and 1080p with games but I didn’t notice the resolution bump during the movie. My wife is holding a movie night with her friends so I’m stuck upstairs writing about it rather than enjoying it…

I’ve been holding on to Braveheart and Gladiator (Yes I like movies with gladiators..) on blu ray for when this projector arrived so I’ll be checking them out this weekend and playing with the iris to see which setting gives me the right mix of brightness and black levels for movies.

I’d like to thank all of the experts and enthusiasts on this forum. I’ve read through hundreds of posts for multiple projectors and I couldn’t be happier with my final purchase thanks to your debates, advice, and comments.

I stared at the room-to-be today. I found out that nothing happens when I don't do anything. Lot's of work ahead of me building designing this theater. Still planning it on my moments free...and looking forward to that JVC.

Can any of you guys, HD 950's owners already give your impressions on the THX mode image?

Before tonight's Minnesota / Green Bay game with the new RS25, I would have said it looks pretty close to Jason's great calibration on User 1. But switching back and forth the THX had more of a blue color on the Vikings' jerseys without being close to the actual more purple color with the calibration. And what gorgeous colors those are!!

I just received my RS25 last night. I got it installed just before kickoff and did not tweak any settings. It is shelf mounted 16'8" from my 112" wide DIY 2:35 screen about 12" above the top of the screen. I also loaded Casino Royale on BD into the Oppo BDP-83. My early laymen's impression is that the THX mode looks really good on movies. Initially, I was tempted to grab the remote and turn the colors up a bit, but 20 minutes later, I realized we were enjoying the movie as is. Then, realizing the game had already started, I switched over to ESPN HD. The game looked somewhat flat in THX but too bluish in Dynamic. I found the Natural setting looked just about right. I'll likely wait a while before callibration (don't know what I'm missing).

Actually I would hope the RS35 will be discussed right here and the title updated to include the RS35/HD990 in it. Essentially it is an identical projector except with some higher end specs.

Black level, contrast, sharpness and convergence may/should be a bit better (at least, that is what I am expecting the differences to be), but operationally its going to be identical. Just about all questions that apply to the RS25 will apply to the RS35 and vice-versa, including calibration.

Just got a new job, and with it comes my first JVC projector. I'll be getting this model in January--have to wait for my 90 day evaluation period to end. I can't wait to get this thing.
